For sure, I bought the tool, heated it and still ended up leaving it in there for powder coat. Those things are a total PITA to remove. While the hammer comments are funny, they really don't apply here haha

Any help is appreciated, I just bought a 14 and plan on giving it the orange frame treatment soon. Also I see in this thread that sandblasting won't take the old powder off,did anyone here just powder over the original? I plan on doing this before riding The thing so the frame will be free of grease and other contaminants
Thanks
It was fine, I just removed the rubber grommets and the powder coater plugged them.

Left mine in as I could see my attempt at removal failing. My attempt at removing crappy factory paint also failed once I realized it wasn't a Japanese built dirt bike. Laughing Just an amazing factory finish, tough as nails, stainless steel nails.

Sometimes I still almost impress myself with a squirt gun. Almost...

Came out really nice, man. What font did you use on your number backgrounds? They look sweet.

Well I got the damn thing out using the heat method you'll find in a few other threads-
It actually came out very easy doing this but tore one of the rubber grommets off of the T on the first initial turn
Anyone know if ktm sells the grommet piece or am I stuck with the replacement part?

Wish Samco or KTM or someone would come out with a one piece t piece for the 13s...

Infuriating using such a shonky part and it being impossible to remove! Change the down hole exit point and it's simple as!

Why would you strip down a brand new bike that far? Judging by the destroyed part, I think it's unlikely you're a race shop!
don`t bet on it , just because someone works behind a counter doesn`t mean they occasionally resort to butchery , ktm are notorious for using far too much red Loctite on chassis bolts , they`re terrified of litigation

Most of us who have had our frames powder coated went with powder code RAL 2009 or Dupont safety orange.

Ya apparently people say it works on the 250 but not the 350. When we were ordering from UK the guy said it didn't work for either so we went back to stock parts... pretty annoying!

Damn, that sucks. When in doubt I'd contact samco or Slavens Racing, helpful and knowledgeable.

Ha... yeah. So did that at the time, Jeff knew it didn't work on the 350, because he'd had a 450 customer have a fail, a bad/good one. Engine and all... And had talked to Samco... so I talked to Samco in the UK and they basically said they don't have one for the 13 SX250/350/450/SXFs

I also talked to TSM about their 250SXs they were running in the nats, they were/are running them... but again Samco said not yet. Guess they didn't want to say yeah in case a of a failure

What type of paint did you spray the frame with? What code was used. And how is it holding up? Thanks. It's not powder coated so the ral and DuPont codes above are for boxes of powder.

Funny just received an email from james at racebike biz...

Good dude!

Hello Alex

I’m just following up on some enquiries and wanted to say that Samco still don’t produce a T Piece for the SX and SXF range from 13 on, however please feel free to use this coupon code for all other products on our website.

Don't bother man, She gone.... Sad

JFS- thanks brother! It was fun to build, but sadly had to part ways and redistribute cash to other needs. Now I'm working on this $700 gem....

I just took my 15 300SX apart and I'm beginning to start a winter project. I know this question has probably been asked but why couldn't have the frame powder coated with the T piece still in the frame? I'm 0-3 on removing them without breaking it and I'm going on number 4 today. I have the special KTM and will heat it up really good as others have said is the trick to getting it to unthread out.

I suppose you could leave it in assuming you pull the rubber boots off the T ends. I don't see how the heat could do anything other than possibly denature the epoxy/pipe dope on the threads and lead to leakage down the road.

My main question is what color are you going with? Now that orange is out of vogue and every swinging dick has an orange frame it not so cool anymore.....

Neon yellow would be pretty awesome!

Well.. I'm going to attempt to take it out as soon as the baby goes down for his nap. My buddy who's done a bunch (and broken a cpl) says to really heat it up and it will just unthread out. I really liked this bike when I saw it and knew that I wanted to do something along those lines but with a white frame. I really liked my 13 when it was white BUT I hated the neon/flo orange frame.

That T piece is no joke, I had a very similar issue. I ground notches out of a long socket, inserted it up the tube and was sure it was going to work with it being so tight however the little bumps inside the tube just stripped off. The official tool must insert right the way up. It's a horrible design, whats wrong with pipes and jubilee clips like every other bike in the world?

Totally agree on that one. I also made a tool that I was pretty sure was going to work and I broke the one in my 13 and then broke the T in another 13 that I did for a friend. I borrowed the KTM tool for a 150 that I built this summer and I still broke the stupid thing. I borrowed the tool again for my 15 and he says that heat is the key to getting it out and to not be bashful when heating it up. Hopefully this one comes out :-)
