2014 yzf 250 broke

my son has rode his bike for a month and the motor from top to bottom is ruined. I change the oil every ride,i have 6 extra air cleaners, . check and change way more than needed. ruined a bike in my younger years for lack of maintenance so these did not cause it. did some research and found stopper lever assembly goes out,sure enough the bearings are laying in the bottom of cases.would this part going out cause such major damage to entire motor.the worst part about this he was racing indoor arena cross and motor locked on face of biggest jump there. it started smoking before the jump but he could not see it,i about S##T my pants.bad deal.

If it has been less than 30 days you might be able to utilize that 30 day warranty everyone on Vital references.

A few years ago I Had a friend who had a 2 month old yz85 bottom end go out (beginner rider) and his dad ended up having to pay out of pocket for repairs, but I'd say try to contact the dealer/ manufacturer asap. Too bad to hear of all these new yzf problems when it was known to be the most reliable bike in previous years.

what sucks is I purchased this bike in the summer while he was still ridding minis so I could get suspension and all that extra bling done before hes ready to ride it.DAM !!

I would still contact Yamaha, they may have issued a recall or such, and they may help you out. It's worth a try.

Yamaha had the same problem with the same part in the 2006 yz450f. The next year the bearing was changed to a solid wheel just like the picture above. History repeating itself.

Yes, I had the 2006 yz125. Loads of those bearings broke, and the aluminium clutch push rod. Don't remember Yamaha ever doing any recalls or fixing the issue, though they changed both on later models. A dealer here sold loads of steel push rods and solid rollers.

Haber, Have you went to the dealer nearest you?( doesn't matter if you bought it there or not) Have them run your vin# and see if it falls into any number ranges that have problems. Good thing it's winter, sounds like I may be on the phone with the boys in blue alot this winter. Make sure you have the guy in service that runs warranty's for Yamaha's(not necessarily the service manager) run your number.

Thanks for the picture of that part. What does it do? Just trying to figure out how it causes and engine to be ruined from top to bottom.

I just called Yamaha and started a report. I didn't get to finish because my lunch break ended but I'll call on the way home from work to finish up with it. Hopefully they will send me the new "updated" parts. I see they are only $32 total on rockymountain though.

This is from my buddies 2013 YZ 250, when he went to change the oil he was dealt this surprise 2 weeks ago, he split the cases and found fragments in the shift drum. Seems like this is just a typical Yamaha issue, I replaced this my 2014 YZF 250 right when I got it home from the dealer along with the water pump impeller.

I guess this is the price of cheaper manufacturing cost. Not that it gets past on to the end consumer.

Thanks. I wasn't sure what it was. Looked like part of the transmission, and checked the schematics to confirm. I don't know all the technical wizardry in the 250F so I wasn't sure what the heck a stopper lever could be doing. So basically the thing needs a bushing and not a bearing. Wonder if it also has to do with jamming the gear selector with a ton of force.

I called Yamaha and finally got an answer of "take it to a dealer and see if those parts are wearing" I told him the parts are $32 if I buy them myself and to have the dealer check it was going to be at least $50. Yamaha said "that's not our problem, just buy the parts yourself and put them in if it's cheaper". Very disappointed in their response. He also said that he NEVER heard of ANY shift stopper lever problem or water pump problem. I basically called him a liar and said have a nice day.
