So, Malcolm has a good showing at the straight rhythm race, in which he most certainly had an exact replica to practice on with Brother James and a fairly good ride at the very level playing field of a track at last nights MEC and you think he deserves a factory ride???
This years factory rides were decided because of last years results and Mookie deserves to be exactly where he is this upcoming season.
If he can carry last nights ride, all the way through the 2015 SX season, maybe a top 7 for the year, he probably will get a good ride for 2016. If a spot opens up during the season and he is doing well, maybe he can get a temporary ride like Weston Peick got last year, which carried him into a full JGR ride.
Right now, Malcolm is where he belongs!

22 Motorsport will have 2 open spots when its A1 time.. Seems Chad had enough and JG33 can keep it on 2 wheels more than 2 races..

IMO, teams primarily look @ 2 things in a rider 1) a history of winning like Baggett, Wilson, Grant, Anderson, Barcia (notice I'm not listing the very top riders). These are riders who probably won't be in title contention but have proven they have the ability to win & bring recognition to their sponsors. When it comes down to it, this carries more weight with a team than anything else. 2) Consistency like Short, Brayton, Pieck. These riders will consistently be towards the front, won't have a ton of falls & will end the series sitting well in the standings. Best of both worlds is obviously to have both, rare to find.

Mookie has the speed, but doesn't have an established history of winning. He's consistently fast when he keeps it on 2 wheels - which makes him inconsistent. With such a stacked field a rider needs to fall into one of these catagories & unfortunately Mookie hasn't yet. I have no doubt he can get there, but there just isn't enough rides to go around & take a chance.

Wherever Malcolm ends up, he needs to be on a damn 450. If he ends up riding a 250 for supercross again then I just don't think we're going to see any results out of him.

yep, that is getting closer to the point, he seems to lack the talent to just ride week in week out and do well in a championship, and a sign of someone who lacks talent does tend to be someone with the habit of passing by making contact.
For sure we need to get over this "he deserves a ride" mentality, Nobody deserves a ride in a sport as unbiased as motocross, the cream just has a way of rising to the top in this sport all by itself, always has.

Get real! JW didn't do shit last year neither did Hill or Grant. Hell what has JW done since he went to a 450? Grant got 1 SX win like 5 years ago & 1 MX moto win last year. I like these guys but don't understand HOW they keep getting good rides?

From the get go, Malcolm has never taking training serious enough for any team to sign him long term and I am not talking about riding around a track.

I can think of a lot of factory or factory supported riders that have done very little. At least Malcolm is young and fast. You an't teach that. Weimer has done nothing with the best machine and trainer in the business, Wilson has been super inconsistent and injury prone.

I'm not saying Malcolm deserves to be on Red Bull KTM or anything but you would think a satellite team would find interest.

I would choose him over JG33 or BB4 on a 450. BB4 has been on a steady decline. His starts suck and you can't come thru the packs in the 450s like in the 250s. He did look good last night on the 450 but again, that wrist is always a concern. JG is JG, even though he was more consistent last year.

Hello! I, of course, am not saying he is better than Chad, Andrew, BamBam, Anderson, Webb etc. I am saying that he finished in front of all these guys on factory rides...and wouldn't be surprised if he does so in several Supercross races.

Point being, if Zak Bell, Zach Osborne, Blake Baggett, JG have factory rides then I think Mookie is as good if not better with lots of upside.
But there isn't enough rides to go around. And with the logic you're using which is what everyone does, if Mookie got a ride, it would be X rider deserves a ride, if X got a ride it would be Y rider.

If Mookie keeps it up I am sure he will be the next Weston. Everyone said Weston deserved a ride and he never got one now he has one from keeping it up.

Mookie has so many resources too. I dont see why he just doesn't Hanny or Nick Wey it. Which Im sure he will if nothing comes up.

You know Weimer has podiumed in and outdoors on the 450 and won heat races right?

As injury riddle as he has been he's done more than ok. And even then, more than Mookie! Edit - And Grant won a moto as recently as Glen Helen... And Bagget all through the nationals. Some of you guys are on glue!

The only sponsors that I know Malcom had for MEC were his own (or Stewart family) money, Seven gear & Spy goggles. If he's gonna end up without a major ride for 2015, he'd better be hustlin' up some other sponsors before A1.

Weimer had the best team, best rider to train with, best trainer, best everything. He podiumed outdoors in the most depleted year ever.

Results and stats don't mean anything to some people I guess. There are two years there he was good to great and two years of injuries. And all of it better than what Mookie has, not even considering their lites careers.

Weimer cops a lot of shit and it's out of line. He's been pretty good for someone who's had the injuries he's had.

The dude has tons of potential, but he's only had a few SX races on the 450. Once he puts a few more top ten races in he will have no trouble finding a ride. I would bet he has surprised a few teams already, and may get offers soon.
He has surprised me with how well he is doing.

Not really a hard comparison when you actually look at the numbers. Stewarts best finishes in points - 250SX 6th 450MX 13th
Weimers - 250 SX 1st, 250MX 4th, 450SX 5th, 450MX 3rd. Weimer's a former champion and rode for PC and Kawi for years and Mookie is James Stewarts brother. Not too tough to figure out.

Shoosh.

Troy lee has been a long time sponsor of his as well

Mookie has only just started putting the pieces together the past 2 events. Yet people are going nuts like he has been disrespected. His brother can get away with missing races for reasons he does not disclose. But Mookie ain't there yet. All I have seen is a punk on a 250. Couple good rides on a 450 here and there. Doesn't show up or half of outdoors. No reason as to why. I agree the guy is ready super good right now. But it is only 2 events.

I was surprised he didn't stay on at TLD because I thought he was one of their best placed riders. I guess I was wrong though...

Also for the RedBull straight rhythm, do you guys really believe Malcom was just that good? Im sure RedBull had James a replica track or something very close and him and Malcom just pounded laps on it.

definitely completely deserves a ride of some kind.

he's too damn big for a 250, he will be a much better 450 rider- we've already seen glimpses of it.

I wouldn't put very much into the straight line rhythm result, but 5th overall against that field yesterday was much more impressive. jmo

I think JT addressed this question on Pulp, Mookie comes with a lot of baggage. Deciding to quit the Nationals can't look good to teams out there.

after he seemed to let the team down, by not turn up to races he said he was going to mid week, it did not suprise me his contract did not get renewed, also, it does not seem like Troy Lee will be running a 450 next year,

So, I know some like the Stewarts and some dislike them. However, I think it is time for the team managers to be honest with themselves and realize that he is a valuable asset, especially for Supercross which is by far the highest profile series, and needs to be on a team. Not only is he young and his upside very high he is also one of the most popular riders in the pits and is a "name" that it is very popular in our sport. You would think a team like a re-emerging Husqvarna would want a "name" to draw attention to their pits, to their sponsors. He shouldn't be ignored. It seems a lot of people think Malcolm comes with baggage but it s not true for him personally. A young, solid kid, with immense speed and who is one of the biggest draws in the pits and to the public. ?? I'm having trouble understanding what's going on with teams not looking his way.

We all know Malcolm needs to be on a 450 but he has stated he WILL ride a 250 if that is what he needs to do to progress up to the 450 ride.

I know MEC is just one race but it is one of the highest profile races in SX/MX. He finished 5th overall and looked very solid all night, even holding off Trey in the third race. On a TLD Honda he purchased himself when the team switched to KTM, without factory support, on his own dime getting there and racing, with of course, some sponsor support. Holding off Trey, who had been on rails all night long. The MEC race follows a great performance at straight Rhythm, which admittedly is just a different one off event but still shows the kids talent.

He has had some good results in SX and MX in the past and also some inconsistency. Just like almost ALL of the factory riders have had.

Here are the factory or factory supported riders who finished BEHIND Malcolm for the MEC overall.

Justin Hill -Factory KTM
Jason Anderson - Factory Husqvarna
Justin Barcia- JGR Yamaha
Blake Baggett- Yoshimura Suzuki
Weston Pieck - JGR Yamaha
Andrew Short - BTO KTM
Justin Brayton- BTO KTM
Cooper Webb - Yamaha
Dean Wilson -Factory KTM
Chad Reed-TwoTwo Motorsports
Josh Grant- TwoTwo Motorsports
Zach Osborne-Factory Husqvarna

I mean, honestly, some of the choices the teams have made perplex me. I think CR22 would have been better off choosing Mookie than JG33. BB4 getting a factory 450 ride is questionable too with his wrist history and horrible starts. And Zak Bell getting a Factory Husqvarna ride? Don't even get me started. Pro Circuit's choices? Some odd ones there, too. Tonus will do great outdoors, but what about SX which is, inevitably, more important to teams?

Yes, I am a Mookie fan. But, in all fairness, people are truly making some weird decisions. We know KTM (or probably Husqvarna) won't choose him due to DeCoster's dislike for the family....but that's a whole other gripe I have for another topic.

Just wanted to throw it out there for discussion. And btw, props to JW12 for a solid ride on his own dime as well.

Could not have said it better myself.
