When asked about racing the GPs in the Eric Johnson interview that ran on virtually every moto website this week, Ryan was asked about the possibility of winning. He said, “First of all, to have an American win in the first year would be huge.”
The facts: Ryan Villopoto would not be the first American to win in his first year—that as done by Danny LaPorte back in 1982…and it was huge.
And MXA went on to point out, RV went on to make more crazy incorrect comments about MX history and nobody corrected RV

and so.... to calmly sit there with a very knowledgeable interviewer like Eric Johnson and make foggy statements about being the first American to do this and to do that is a bit inmature/unprofessional

you are drifting a bit away from the topic.
The quote from RV was:
“First of all, to have an American win in the first year would be huge.”
2. Who cares?
I am too tired to go back and read the interview to be sure about the context, but it seems RV implied no American has ever gone to the GP's and won in his first year.
Then MXA pointed out Danny LaPort did it in his first year.
Maybe RV was referring to the MAIN GP CLASS when he said no American has ever done it -
Danny won the 250 GP title in his first year and that was actually when the 500 class was the BIG class.
So it is actually a bit of a gray area, it is late and I think we will give RV the benefit of the doubt, MXA may have just been trying to find some fault in RV that is not justified.
Regarding comment from Rewindcaz: 1. I don't see where he says it's never been done before.
here again RV comment: """"to have an American win in the first year would be huge.”""""
From a lawyer's point of view, you are right, RV never said it has never been done before, so you win Rewindcaz
It just may be that some readers understood from RV's comment that it had never been done. RV said, "it WOULD be huge" he did not say, it WILL be huge again,,,, the word WOULD implied it has not happened, but again, we'll give RV the benefit of the doubt due to the 250GP class vs the 500GP class.
When you're looking to be upset then it becomes easy to infer things like this.
A moto head that's too damn tired, or too damn dimwitted to look up the context but will go ahead and start a new topic slamming a racer for a statement they've interpreted poorly.
It'd be wrong to say it's never been done before.
Pit Row
By the way, it would be huge for an American to win in the first year.
It would be huge to win in his first year. I didn't see where he'd be the first American to win in his first year.
Anyhow It would be huge for him to do it,or it to be done, and as in the other thread, although Lackey was AMA 500 champ and top American in the Trans-Am series the year he went but wasn't in RV's league, that makes it an even bigger deal of him going-it's huge.
too many nitwits on here will overanalyze and misinterpret anything because of preconceived notions in their pea brains.....
Post a reply to: Wow, RV would be the "first American" to......(wrong dude)
