Fact is there are a lot of guys who can win it this year.
Including Reed, Stewart, Canard, Roczen, Tomac, Dungey, Millsaps, Barcia and maybe more.
Should be a great year.

Funny, Stewart had more wins than dungey, roczen, barcia, canard all them combined this year in SX. Oh... Reed had same amount as roczen and was out for 80% of the season aswell.

Please tell me which of the rest have won a title since '08 in 450 SX? I'll answer for you...Dungey. Is he the clear favorite over the others, Roczen, Tomac, Canard, etc? No. So, I'd say Stewart and Reed has as much chance as anyone if we are looking at it from that point of view.

Canard, Barcia, Millsaps, Seely, Roczen, Holy crap about 85% of the field out there have NEVER won a SX title! Dungey hasnt won one since 2010! WOW only 1 year more recent then stewart, big deal.

Stewart Could have been 2nd in points if he didnt have the fork problem in vegas and when he hyper extended his leg.

With your theory, the only ones that can win a title are reed stewart dungey.. (only ones that have won a 450 title that will be lining up, may have forgotten someone)

Lol, If this , if that, and reed wont win another title either. imo. dungey and rv have been the beat 450 riders since 2010. titles and resume dont lie. Old saying goes alot win races, not many win titles.

Realistic Title Contenders - Champ comes from this group
Stew (If he races...and if he does not head trip out...no one has his speed race in race out)
Davi (Will he like the Kawi as much as the RMZ)
Chad (How much did the tough last year take out of CR22)
KR (Can he win races without guys crashing out in front of him?)
RD (20 points a race..every race)

The B Group - These guys are just not quit there.
Canard (15 points a race wont cut it)
Tomac (Still have not shown conistent SX speed on the CRF450)
Barcia (He does not come through traffic efficiently...decision making suspect)

The C Group -
Short
Peick
Brayton
Wilbur
Mookie (he looked good at RBSR!)

So...to answer the question, I would have to say KR. I think that with his MX title, and some confidence, he will step it up. As much as I want to say Stew...he will find a way to throw it away. I can see Stews points looking something like this at the seasons end

25 22 25 25 25 11 22 25 25 22 25 25 12 25 20 2 8

It will be obvious that Stew at this best is still in another dimension...but Stew at his worst is a lot worse than the other guys at their worst. Same old story. I can see Stew winning 9-11 races...and not winning the title.

Probably cause he wins so many races.

Pretty cool his fans stick by him even if he hasn't won a title in years.

I think a lot of Stewart fans are more interested in seeing someone do something that blows their mind, that seeing someone consistently put in good results without ever doing anything spectacular.

Who added more excitement to the season last year, Stew or Dungey? Dungey finished well ahead of Stew...so he is obviously "better".

Ok so Its like a nitro circus thing? Personally, I like to watch races so, for me, Dungey is obviously better. It says so right there in the points standings for the last 5 years. For the life of me , I wont ever understand how if someone beats "your guy" 5 years in a row people still claim "your guy" is still better. This is a strange, strange world.

Exactly, that's why people love the guy., but I would also include his battles with Ricky, multiple titles and having to deal with the shitty fans him and his family have had to deal with.

Same here. Wilson also, I think he might be a big surprise for a lot of people.

Personally I think Roczen is the favorite by a big margin though. JMO

As long ago as last SX season was James did stuff that some others looked at and said hell no. He also hit the deck a couple times. He is as good as he wants to be and if he can make some luck he's got as good a chance as any of the top guys.

Everyone is entitled to their view. Better is a subjective term. I tend to look at what a rider can do at his best. Was Stew only 1.8% better (377 points to 373 points) than Chad in 2009? That year, Chad finished 2nd to Stew in 1st 10 times in 17 races. Twice in was 1-2 the other way. If the SX series utilize a scoring system that rewards wins more, Stew would have clinched the title before the last race. It was clear that Stew was on a whole different level from Chad...but the points show them essentially being even.

All forms of major motor sport purposely create points systems that under-value wins to keep the points close, for TV and sponsorship $ reasons. This has a huge impact on what people who do not pay attention to such things perceive as being 'better'.

To me, winning is like getting the girl. Coming close, but not getting the girl = 0. Not winning = 0. Life is winner take all. Championships are manipulated way to hide this reality for the masses. I guess when some guy steals your girl...you console yourself by saying its OK...I finished 2nd.

In SX 2014, I think it was clear that RV was the best. Stew was the 2nd best. KR and RD were a notch below. For the most part...night in night out..Stew could handle Dunge with ease.

MotoGP rewards riders for wins more than any other motorsport that I know of. I think its a good system.

1st 25 points
2nd 20 points
3rd 16 points
4th 13 points
5th 11 points
6th 10 points
7th 9 points
8th 8 points
9th 7 points
10th 6 points
11th 5 points
12th 4 points
13th 3 points
14th 2 points
15th 1 point

What hurt Stewart the most in points last year was the crushed header pipe at Daytona when Alessi crashed in front of him, and the bent bars from his crash at A1. Both resulting in DNF's.

I agree. Wins should be rewarded more, but it will never happen. Heck, it the promoters of "championships" had their way, it would be

25
24
23
22
21
20
19
etc...........

Daytona (header pipe) and Indy (Seeley pinballed him) killed Stew in 2014. A1 was on Stew though...

Exactly what Mick just said!

When it all comes to a final point........I just want to see some awesome racing.....and cross my fingers all our boys make it to the end of the season healthy.

" Healthy "....being the key word there! Because that means they'll be on the line for the first round of the outdoors!

Barcia's problem is not bike. It is that he does not come through traffic fast and low risk. He block passes everyone. Last year...I think it was not till round 12 that I saw JB pull a pass on a guy close to him in speed that was not a full block pass stuff move.

Championship level guys only BP when they have to. Guys slower than them, they pass easy, high low, faster out, the whoops, etc. They have more tools. Barcia is a one trick pony, and over the course of a season, he will make some decisions which cost him points. That and when he starts P7...he cant win..again...because of how he comes through traffic. Not saying he is not great, just not championship material at this point.

As I said previously...
KR
JS
DM
CR
RD

Those are my picks. I think it could be CLOSE...possibly 3 riders in it the last race.

Your pov is both valid and wrong. Motorsports didnt create points systems simply to keep the points close and exciting. They reward consistency. It worked just fine for the outdoors this year, Nascar has had a Champ that never won a race. Thats what a racing series used to be about. Consistency. Speed means shit if you cant finish the race. Race wins mean slightly more. In 09 Stew was 1.8 % better than Chad . Its easy math,"Championships are manipulated"? Right there is when I should have left it alone. Championships are the only thing that matters. Everything else is trivia.

You high bro, Reed cant even finish a season and you got the likes of Barcia and Canard in the B group ? Might as well throw Deano and Anderson in there as well

Kenny's gonna lay the wood to everyone anyways
