I say yes. This event was awesome. Its adds a lot of different aspects that I personally love. But I do say keep it as a one off race a year, like the Monster Energy Cup.
Oh, and make TP199 do a few free passes all alone after its over just to watch and listen to the best thing (and most loved, aside maybe Canard
) that ever happened to motocross, even though he doesn't race anymore. :D
Whats everyone's take on this? Anything do you think could improve it? (maybe best of 5 on the final?)
Well done Red Bull, WELL FREAKING DONE

So, there's my contrasting opinion.
For us "moto" fans who follow the sport even wire to wire wins over a 20 lap main, or a 35 minute moto can be interesting. But to outsiders to our sport...nothing could be worse.
This event required no prior knowledge to riding for the viewer - and offered a TON of close finishes. Malcom pissed away that semifinal, had he not the ending may not have been so "predictable".
NHRA drag racing blows away viewership of sx and mx - and offers nothing spectactular on TV. I think for our sport to progress this is one of the best things I've seen in years. And think - it would be incredibly easy to add two lanes and make it a 4 rider gate to shake things up further and maybe speed up the elimination process.
Considering that not even CLOSE to all the top talent was there - and how incredibly close the racing was - this event also seems to be an excellent equalizer.
I for one think it blows sx out of the water in terms of excitement and marketability. It also gives sponsors MUCH more opportunity at exposure - an interview after every go...Not a bad thing vs say two interviews for a top guy in SX (heat and main)
I can agree it takes away from the history an heritage of our sport - but the same can be said about supercross when it was first coming into its own. And it also requires less brute fitness - but maybe that also can be a good thing...top guys who have great programs are hard to knock off for young up and comers who don't have a big budget for trainers or facilities.
Just my opinion, but I could watch something like that on a weekly basis more than I care to watch nascar or nhra.
Can see this in X Games and one off event like this Red Bull Event
and as i stated in my other thread about it
They Need to top it off with a LEGENDS Bracket!
Retired for x amount of years
SHOWTIME Vs RC4
Lusk vs Larccoo
etc.. 1 of those is a bad example lol... but you understand where i'm coming from
Pit Row
Let's just stick to the shit status our sport is at and keep it as it always is.
That's gonna fix the IMMENSE issues our sport faces.
Every other main stream sport has found a way to evolve and become profitable for it's athletes, it's teams, etc.
I mean - sx must be doing something right since:
Our sport pays shit vs other sports,
outside of a very few amount of people, it actually COSTS top professionals money to go racing.
You can't tell me outside sponsorship pays off with the current model - if it were YOUR 10 million bucks, do you really think you would see that back plus any profit to be a title on a team? no. We are lucky people like redbull have more money "than god" and are action sport enthusiasts: Sponsorship is a charity service - nothing more.
I for one want any rider in a part of the "show" to be making money that reflects the level of hard work, talent and sacrifice they have had to go through to get to a top level - to to mention compensate the huge risks required on their life and body in our sport. Pastrana figured it out long ago - better to get OUT of the sport to make money than stay racing. Hell freestyle currently blows away mx and sx pay outs for riders, requires hardly any program compared to moto. A kid would be smarter to get his backflips dialed than to try and be fast on a dirtbike.
I am drinking the kool aid, I see far more potential in this than sx has ever reached. Can you really say since mcgrath our sport has moved forward at all for the riders?
The faster our sport moves towards being a "show" and entertainment - the better it will be for riders paychecks.
Your quick to dismiss my views - so what are your solutions to the issues outlined above -which I see as maybe a tenth of the big issues we face in the sport?
Good job Redbull, I'm a fan. It's just 1 more Moto event in the off season for us fans. We have the MEC, Xgames & now this.
I agree our athletes need to be paid more. Redbull straight rhythm can add to the riders income. I commend redbull for its efforts and support of MX.
However thinking it could replace SX and improve on its profile I think is delusional. Sx's night program starts with 80 riders in the program, How many riders do you think would get a start in straight rhythm? Lets wait and see when it airs on Dec 20. In its edited form, how many of todays riders make the cut and get exposure.
Do you think the SX model is not good? Taking MX to the public in stadiums within the cities. Could straight rhythm do this?
MX and SX riders are some of the most elite athletes in the world, that is a reason I am very proud to be associated with the sport.
I think Sx doing a fantastic job. I think its a very difficult sport to become main stream, There is only a small percentage of the population that can relate to riding motorcycles.
If you want the sport to grow, IMO. start with getting kids on motorcycles, grow your audience. We all know once your in you are hooked.
I talked to a marketing guy there too and he said they were not expecting the turnout to be as high as it was considering the little last minute marketing they did. So hopefully that means it'll be back for next year! I'll be there again!
good to see you again guyb!
I enjoyed my viewpoint for the day! On top of JG33's motorhome!
