I think it is more that the honda 'feels' the lightest (and darn well almost is), it is very flickable

There is no doubt that the 2014 Honda isnt the most powerful bike out there, and it doesnt pretend to be...the 2015 is faster and better suspended than the 2014 model
That's good. I'm just kinda concerned with the motor not pulling hard enough on top since i'm a top end rider. Also with me weighing 165 i hope the suspension wont be too soft.

Suggest you are better off with a KTM, aren't they all top end? I am sure some vitards will know for sure.

None of the 2015 250F's will have soft suspension, these days the adjustability of all of them is so great none of them are bad, some might be slightly better than the other but really most wont know the difference.

But again, it depends what your local dealer support is, no point in buying a KTM if a) the closest dealer isn't a very good one or b) there isn't a dealer near you.

I think I've got in narrowed down to two bikes. Either the ktm 250sx-f or the Honda crf 250r.
It's kind of a catch 22. I think the ktm motor would suit me best, but on the other hand it's one of the heavier bikes in its class. I really like a light feel, and according to the shootouts, Honda has that light flickable feel I'm looking for. But it's lacking in motor. I hate these types of decisions..

for a C class rider like you and me the honda's motor is fine. You can always throw an air boot and pipe on.

Metzler, buy a one piece bar mount. Hurry before your bars twist just sitting on the stand!

They are all great bikes really. Test ride a few and go from there...Internet opinions hold no water because no one has any idea what you find comfortable

Well like I said before I think I'm closer to a b then c. But who knows considering I've never raced. But I can hold my own on practice days at the local track against b racers. I'm not a timid rider by any means, I don't mean to sound cocky but I'm telling the truth.
Anyway would a pipe help that much for the top end power? I would be happy if it was on par with stock ktm power on top. How much work would I have to do to get it there? Thanks.

Yea dude practice is one thing racing is another. Around here most b guys have been racing most of their lives. Do yourself a favor and sign up for C and go from there I think you will be surprised. If I was you I'd rather win c class than get cunt punted in B.

The pipe and air boot defiantly make a noticeable difference.

Got a '14 yzf250, I think it feels too wide up front too. I heard the cycra plastic has one piece radiator shrouds that make it 2" narrower!

I like the bike, it's totally stock, except for longer chain and 2 extra teeth on the rear sprocket. I think it signs off kind of early, but I'm coming from a 450.

I was super impressed though with the Yamaha 250's in the outdoors this year. They have upped there game for sure.
Doesn't Honda have the best resale value?

Yea, but a turtle can walk backwards faster than a stock CRF250R

Lol yeah, but didn't they do some motor work for 2015? I think it's supposed to have a little better power on top.

The Hondas are not that slow, if they are then why during SX season they were the most popular bike out there? Because they are fine bikes, and respond very well to mods as well.

Yes they might be a few HP less but that does not make them a slow bike, no good having a ton of HP if you cant transform that into traction and therefore acceleration...

But anyway....as I said said many times your local dealer support is probably more important than anything else. No use having the best motor and the dealer doesnt support their local riders or is 5 hrs drive away....etc

I said stock.

Your HP argument doesn't hold much water in the 250F class, the more the better, even in Supercross.

But we aren't talking about pros right now. I agree with you, get a dealer that will give you a good deal (on any brand).

Well in SX lets face it no bike is probably stock, which is why the Hondas were popular then eh? And the stock Honda 250 is not the slowest.

I hav no bias on any of these bikes I only ride a 450 , but saw another Yamaha 250 f do 3 rd. And prob 4th gear today , I d just look into them if I was buying one , I think performance wise they are the best , but all the bikes are good now , and the amount of problems I have seen with the Yamaha this year (which is so strange for them ) I'd be thinking of reliablity problems , if like me ur on a budget , I know people have had no problems with them to , but god I ve seen so many engine blow up this year wit them , cracked con rod s etc

Maybe a couple seasons. Lots of faster riders sandbag the C class.
