1975 was my first bike shop job. And I couldn't have been happier than to be working at Yamaha of Garland. The first real MX'r I owned was the YZ125c and I loved it. It got stolen and Later that year the YZ125 x came out. I was allowed to have one but I had to pay for it. $1000.00 loan from the bank via my parents but I paid the note! (Employee Discount)..
Then I went to work for Garland Suzuki just in time to live the release of the Latest RM "A" and "B" models. It wasn't long before I had purchased a RM 250C 1978 model.
Working at the shops I had the opportuniy to ride just about every model that had come out, in the fields next door (test track) which were plentiful in the day. Things like the TM 400'sTM125's, RM125's like pictured above. Rm 370's ,400's . The YZ and MX 250's XT and TT 500's. It was a fantastic time and I was real serious after all how could there be anything more important than Motocross. A tip for you guys that have the YZ 125c's or YZ125x's the absolute best exhaust you could put on one of those was the stock YZ100 Exhaust. It really woke the 125's up.

I have most of this bike in the rusted form in a couple of boxes. Someday I'll restore it when I have the proper shop and not the dirty shed I work out of now.

1975 I went from my 125 Elsinore to one of these YZs. Racing it stock against the CMC experts wasn't much fun.

The very day I picked up my "brand new" 1974 TM 125 there was a 1975 TM sitting next to it and thought......damn!

That 75 looked so sweet, not too different from the bike I loaded into the pickup the take home, but still....

I was non-the-less, a very happy 14 year old. GOOD TIMES for sure.

A ct 70 with MX bars and dt90 ripping around saddleback in awe of anyone on a MX bike riding the real track.

Haha, I give you old guys a hard time mainly out of jealousy. I've always felt like I was born in the "wrong" generation. I'm not into video games, hip-hop, latest greatest cell phones, prius (no offense prius guys), or any of the other "typical" things of my generation. I hear the stories of that time frame my dad tells me and they sound like such an awesome time to be a young guy.
duuude...back in those days...you could start your bike in the garage...ride down the street.. and go riding afterschool or after work....EVERYDAY...on several different tracks laid out...

So forgive me for being a year or so off here. YZ-80 A "C", I think.
BTW, since I've never been a very good jumper, I was probably shitting my pants here. hhahahhah

I was serious enough from the age of twelve to never be unemployed over the last 40 years so that I would have a race bike in my garage, and to raise my sons thru college with the same pride and ethics! photo's are of my first race 1/75 (Aztec, TM125) jumping pikes peak, next a mud race late 1975 pic on my YZ125C @ burthoud CO, then a pic of a few bikes that I have restored. Thanks for this post Newmann, we will be racing VMX @ Milliken this Sunday

as a rider and a designer born in 74, and picked up riding in the mid 80's while following the sport religiously, it blows my mind how design and engineering has progressed since the golden age. engineers back in the day did the bare minimum as a policy. the mufflers on these bikes aren't a whole lot different from my 1st 86 yz80. thank you don and mitch for wanting better.

The whole point of this thread was to point out the options that were available back in 1975 with low priced mild mannered motocrossers(exception being the MX400 Yamaha, nothing mild about that turd) and high end racers. I see you have the 1976 MX125 next to the YZ C. Perfect example and those two bikes are on my list of must haves one day. Got any better pics of the MX?

1975 was the year I was born… and in January of that year, Joël Robert and Gaston Rahier (who won the 125 World MX Championship on the Suzuki 125 in 1975… and the following 2 years) visited my parents at the hospital in Hamamatsu, Japan to congratulate them on their first born… ME! HAHAHA! My parents both worked for Suzuki and my dad was with Suzuki of Japan, in both the race team and R&D departments for over 41 years. From the mid-80’s on, he was over here in the US till he retired in 2003. He just turned 71 last month.

1975 TM 100, 1976 RM 100 (with a factory RM 125 down pipe and porting to boot-fucker was fast). Then in 1977 RM 125 (1st year of the up pipe) and on it went.....sweet thread Newmann.

How are you yourself involved in MX? Did you get to ride all the cool works bikes?

It looks like it has the C lower fork legs with the X bottles on top. Maybe when the pic was taken Yamaha was in the middle of making changes , who knows I saw a lot of strange stuff back in the 70s
