for all you euro guys talking shit, just think about the simple fact that nobody is saying "rv is ducking the competition to go race a lesser series" that tells you right there that there is a great level of respect for those riders. If rv did this back In 2011 the comments may have been quite different.

Well, one is of Italian ancestry, and one is just flat out ITALIAN...so I'm guessing you are predicting RV2 for the MXGP title.

You Europeans are in for a rude awakening when RV shows up. Then you'll know the meaning of fast. American born, American raised, American tracks. American redhead, with a European #1 plate. Then when he's done conquering the world, I hope he celebrates with a Pabst Blue Ribbon and Dick's cheeseburger.
For those that live anywhere outside of Seattle, Dick's is the In-N-Out Burger of Seattle, only better. Gnarly greasy food, but damn good - a staple of the Seattle area.

eightbitmotocrosser, I hope you are right! From the chiming in from RVs uncle, it sure sounds like a confirmation he is definitely headed to the GPs. Now I would definitely give my left nut for Herlings to be riding the 450s next year!

We,
europeans have no problems if Cairoli would lose against RV but you have to learn to get over it in the case of a defeat from "your " multichampion.Next year (or 2!?) will give us the best competition for years and the winners are the fans.If Cairoli or RV wins doesn't matter.Wink

Talking shit? When you read these sort of threads you do hear enough of exactly that, regardless of the last 2 MXdN peformances of the US riders,it gets tiring hearing some DB's chiming in with the same rhetoric about Cairoli being a 5th place guy over there,or he's got no comp over here although he gets beat straight up a number of times etc

Don't get me wrong, many know how it is,maybe we shouldn't take the bait so much Wink

We've got it all to come in a few weeks time,USA should walk the MXdN with the injury decimated feild and maybe some dubious team selections,it's not exactly the most mouthwatering event for many.RV coming next year is though, the guy's a beast,he's dominated it over there and could do the same here, and even though both sets of fans should benefit from it,I suppose it might end up a shitstorm either waySad

These kind of threads all follow the same routine;

1. American posts something disingenuous about the GPs.

2. GP followers object.

4. Americans and GP fans quarrel back and forth for a while, usually with a few arrogant remarks thrown in (from both sides).

5. GP followers get blamed for 'shit talking' and trying to argue that the GPs are 'better' than the Nationals.

I wish we could get one thing absolutely crystal clear; very, very few (if any) GP followers genuinely think the GPs are superior to the Nationals. If you were to do a quick straw poll I dare say most Europeans would say the Nationals are a notch above in terms of overall quality of the riders/racing, and again most would probably say Villopoto was the fastest rider in the World as of right now.

However what most of us GP guys DO passionately beleive is that there is far greater parity between the riders and the series than most Americans assume, and that the World Championship offers a different set of challenges to the Nationals which are usually overlooked or dismissed. So when someone states categoricaly that there is no competition in the GPs, that the riders look like B-class amateurs or that a 20th place American would podium regularly in the World Championship you're damn right some of us are going to object to that. Especially when it's also abundantly clear that the person has next to no knowledge from which to base those claims.

don't confuse them with logic!

i agree with you on pretty much everything apart from the 'fastest rider in the world' - in my opinion its Herlings. But unfortunately we have been robbed of the chance to see him go head to head with RV and cairoli next season so that's just speculation (on both sides)

The thing i'm really hoping for, is if RV really is coming to gps next year- that it will be a 2 year contract. Then he has a year to get used to the series/ tracks. THEN we get to see RV vs cairoli vs herlings in 2016! now that will be something special!!!

That should be cool. I just wonder how long cairoli is still able to race at this level, he's not getting younger. I dont think he can run with herlings in 2016 if herlings can do the whole 15 season without problems/injuries

i think you might be right (unfortunately) but i hope you're wrong!!!

if rv does come over, herlings doing one more year in mx2 may just have robbed the fans of one of the most epic years of racing the sport has ever seen!!! not saying it wont be good anyway, but adding jeffrey into the mix would be something special

do we really have to wait till 1st october for the official press release? (telling us rv is coming)

I also think that Herlings is the fastest rider I've ever seen. It's a real shame that he won't be competing in MX1 next year. To see him Cairoli, Villopoto and all the other guys battling would be absolutely amazing.

I just wonder who made the decision that he will stay in MX2. He's never seemed like the kind of kid who would back down from a fight. I would've thought that the chance to beat 2 of the best riders this sport has ever seen and prove himself to be the best in the world would be something he would relish. Makes me think that it's more of a KTM decision than a Herlings decision
9/10/2014 5:22am
He's only 19 or so why would he risk moving up early anyway when he doesn't need too there is no such thing as the fastest man on the planet either on there day either of the 3 could beat the other 2

I do kinda agree with you. It would be nice to see him in there battling with those guys though. I also agree with your last comment, if they were all fit enough to ride at the nations it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that they would take a moto win each.

I think the versatility of Cairoli and Herlings would give them a very slight edge over Villopoto on GP tracks. In terms how good they are on all surfaces, especially sand

I would say that RV's deal is almost certainly a 1 year deal. I think it took a lot of money-a hell of a lot-to get him to do this, for the simply reason that he's already got the money thing whipped. The only way it might become a two year deal is if 1.) RV really, really likes the experience and wants to do it again-win or lose and 2.) they pay him another huge amount to do it for a 2nd year.

It will certainly be a good thing if/when he goes, because supercross and the Nationals over here will be far more exciting (because someone else will actually have a chance.) Also, the interest in the GPs will increase dramatically. I personally love the idea the RV putting a stop to Cairoli's title streak and stopping him short of Evert's total. I like the extra drama that will create. I also like Kawasaki basically throwing down the gauntlet to KTM, who I also hope gets their title streak stopped.

The bummer of this situation is that the chickens are coming home to roost in regards to Herlings. No way he should have been in MX2 next year. I mean they changed the rule just to keep him in there for God's sake. This despite the fact that there is absolutely nothing for him to prove in that class, and there is no one that is going to give him a run. What is the point? Next year will be great, but could have been even greater had the corrupt powers that be over there not been so craven in their blatant manipulation of the system for KTM's benefit.

Imagine if James Stewart won every moto in the 125 class in 2004 for his 3rd title in a row, winning motos by obscene amounts. Then Kawasaki and DC and the AMA change the rules so that he could then go for a 4th title in the class he had already destroyed for 3 years, and duck racing Ricky Carmichael because he was also on Kawasaki. Then by chance, one of the greatest European champions EVER makes a complete surprise decision to come race the Nationals for a huge amount of money, and Stewart is not there in the class to race with him and Carmichael.

It should be one for the history books, but it could have been one for the ages.

I personally thinks it great that Poto will race the GP's. all of this BS about Americans being better than Euros is more of a point of view. But when you have former GP champions stating, based on their own experiences, saying unequivocally that the US is the premier and toughest series, what the rest of us keyboard. Jockeys have to say really doesn't matter!!

Musquin, Langston and Reed (Musquin and Langston are former World Champs) are ALL on record saying the US Nationals Re the toughest most prestigious series. Period!! All of you GP cheerleaders are FOS compared to those three, your opinions don't mean shit based on what these guys have said!

Now, that said, I grew up following the GP in the days of Gerorges Jobe, Malherbe (sp),Thorpe and those guys! I thought they were moto gods and when we started winning against those guys at the MX and Trophy desNations, I thought our guys (O'Mara, Bailey, Johnson, Lechien etc) had conquered the world. That is respect for the GP guys!!

I'm just soooo hopeful Poto does go over there and race. I always wondered who, over the course of a season was the best RC or Everts, and we never got to see them square for a season. Now we have the chance of seeing Poto and AC go head to head for a full season and as moto fans, we should all be soooo pumped up because this what we've all wanted to see, the two best MX racers go at it.

I'm hopeful Poto wins the title, but I also KNOW FOR A FACT, that AC will be there every moto right to the very end. Barring injury this will be an epic title fight and as moto fans we should ALL be grateful that we have the opportunity to see such great racing. The only thing that would make it better would be for Dungey, Canard, Tomac, Roczen, Musquin, Stewart, Desalle, Paulin,VanHorbeek, Pourcel and Herlings to line up with Poto and Cairoli. That's the only way the GP series could be begetter next year, and I wouldn't care if it was here in the states or in the GP series. That's truly the only way to determine who's the best of those guys and that's the only way racing in 2015 could possibly be any better....

We as fans and racers need to appreciate what we might get to see and soak it all in because the chances of the two most dominant riders squaring off like this again are slim and this is a great opportunity to see some of the best racing we will ever see!!!

After years of following the sport, I think one thing is very likely: one of them will get injured and the big show down we were all waiting for never properly materialize.

Just like 2006 mxdn, herlings at unadilla etc etc. It's like there is a curse on mxfans, and it happens every damn time. I'm trying not to get my hopes up to soon

It's certainly an odd one and a frustrating one. But having seen Herlings race GP's for a few years now, I can't help but feel that he would want to race those to guys.

He did a youtube series earlier in the year and he said in that that he was stepping up his training programme and everything in order to battle Cairoli in 2015. So what's changed I don't know. Maybe it's less to do with KTM worrying about him beating Cairoli and more to do with them worrying about losing the MX2 title if he moves up

While I agree with most of that I would say that I'd expect all those guys to say it's tougher over there,.I think it probably has the edge but not I'd talk about these points:

Musquin has sadly had nothing but injury woes and both times when returning to Europe he's been pretty average. He's not consistently hit top form over there but you can see how fast he is at times when he has,he's blitzed the feild

Reed and Langston didn't race much in Europe and essentially they've never returned so who knows how tough it would've been where both would have gone up against the Everts and Cairoli eras

RV is the most dominant rider the AMA has seen since RC,his coming is something that's never been done, and it's gonna be a treat

These kind of threads all follow the same routine;

Well said!Smile

It makes my blood boil when I hear someone like Emig, Weege or Langston state live on air that 'All the world best riders come to race in America'. I can't remember what it was Langston said recently, but whatever it was was totally fabricated and incorrect and I couldnt actually believe what I was hearing.

It annoys be because I think it makes them sound idiotic for starters, and secondly because it perpetuates this ongoing myth that the GPs are not worth making any effort for. By constantly reinforcing this ideology I actually think they're doing the sport a disservice.

There are fantastic riders from all over the world who don't even race the GP's, but who I can 100% guarantee would finish inside the top 20, maybe even top 15 in America, in either class. The idea that the 40 riders on the start line at Redbud or wherever are the very best riders in the world is a complete and utter drivel. The top five or ten riders in America are certainly some of the very best in the World, but there are another five or ten riders in the GPs who are equally as competitive. We're talking fractions of a second differences between most of them. But thats not the information that the American fans are constantly drip fed through their TVs.

Watching the mud race when ever that was I'm sure most average riders from the UK could have scored points there were used to racing in that shit also notice how slow on TV that looked Tommy Searle could have won there

Americans are fed bullshit constantly through media I bet they all think the wars they start are for good reason and not just bullying countries for oil

Regarding the comments on TV jamma they are probably being paid to say that if they believe it or not is another thing

Was it when he said something along the lines of 'Being American Champion meant more to me than being World Champion, because this is where all the top riders come'? Because that hugely infuriated me too. I have no problem with him saying that his AMA championships mean more to him because that is a matter of his own opinion and experience. But to suggest that all the best riders we have in this sport are competing in the AMA is complete and utter bollocks, as you've already said. And coming from Langston? He hardly spent half his career over here did he? He had one good year, won a title, and moved on, which is fair enough, but he can't base his ideas on what the GP's are like now on what they were like when raced here over a decade ago. They didn't even run all the classes together then
