I've always argued the "extra knock down" theory. Yeah, if you're slugging away at a 300lb man on PCP who's determined to kill, you might need more caliber but if you put a .22 round into the average home intruder he'll forget what he was there for.

I'm putting 2 below the belly button and if that doesn't stop them I'm aiming for the eyes. That should do the trick....

I think it's comical when people get small framed .45 or .40 for that 'extra knock down' power...when they couldn't put two rounds within a 4x8 sheet of plywood....let alone a man running at them. A nice balanced smaller caliber round, that you can put several rounds in the same area will be WAY more effective. However, my 1911 that is a .45 is pretty accurate and consistent....so it's the best of both worlds. Although it doesn't make for a good "vehicle" gun...that's where the 380 or 9mm comes in 'handy'.

I have a glock 17, and I have no complaints whatsoever. But it really comes down to personal preference. My three brothers and I all have different types of 9mm, and all of us are totally happy with what we have. You can't go wrong with the Springfield XD. Between the Springfield XD and a Glock 17 (or 19), it could really come down to the flip of a coin. Just hold each one and pick whichever feels better in your hand. Or go with the Colt 1911 if you have the coin for it, I'd love one.

I almost bought the XD, but to be honest, all the safeties were a deterrent. Being awoken from your sleep, and ensuring your hand rests firmly on the handle to fire - round didn't seem like the best idea. That is why I went with the glock. Less frills, quicker albeit unsafer action.

My carry weapon is a 1911 Para companion .45 single stack so you would think it would be hard to handle when shooting multiple rounds but because its stainless and has a heavy spring it is very stable for a concealment size .45 I also have a XD 45 but it is not near as thin and easy to hide but it is dead on accurate also.

Friend with Beretta backed out so I went in dealer again tonight. After handling the Ruger, Glock and Taurus again I decided on the Taurus. Just felt the best in my hands and when I would pull it up. Stuck with the 9MM. Should be in Tue, thanks for the input.

I have never owned a Taurus but I do see one in my future, I know several people who have them and they are a quality pistol.

Take 'er easy there big fella..... I'm not gonna clip myself when I draw, I guarentee it.

I was just concerned that there is more things to potentially go wrong, and I didn't want to give the gun extra chances to fail, especially if the gun got dirty.

nice, this was my second choice. only thing I liked better about the Taurus was it had finger profiles on front of grip. really liked how both of the guns had the small hump that fits the palm of your hand.

I haven't read the thread, but if you only have 9mm, barely 1 centimeter, then you probably should compensate with something really big, maybe a rocket launcher of some sort, or at least a bazooka.

Shot a couple 9mm's today including a full auto Colt M-16 with a 10.5 inch barreled (10.5 inches for JFS)9mm upper on it. 32 rounds of 9mm spit out before you could get your finger off the trigger. Of course I wasn't about to lift....Laughing So much fun.

No, no guns here. Maybe someday, like to shoot when I have done it, but not a priority, especially after dropping and arm and a leg off at the college along with the boy. I'd have liked to have spent more time in the store than I had just ogling the stuff. They had some beautiful rigs as well as a huge inventory of regular journeyman stuff.
