I heard that the track at Steel City is leveled to the ground and the owners lost the lease. Any truth to this?

I would have a hard time believing this to be true. I'm 99% positive that Mad Mike Jones married the daughter of the family who owned the track. He has practice FMX stuff set up outside his house there. But stranger things have happened so who knows for sure? DC might chime in and set the record straight.

I hope that it isn't true, but after racing there 2 years ago as compared to like 8 years ago, the track has gone downhill bigtime

I dont understand why MX is going down hill? I hear a lot about MX nationals that are not packed like RED BUDD is. I think they need to hold the outdoors at all the big turn out crowds like Red Budd. Play both motos on one station. Dont get it Bikes are double the price but the factory rigs cry broke. Sucks. Hope it turns around soon here.

I drove past it yesterday. The little bit that can be seen from the road was leveled I'm guessing the rest is too. I can go for a closer look Wednesday or Thursday if I get a minute .

I haven't been there in quite a few years but I did hear some things about it being done for good (local races) and other reasons such as EPA, etc and now this. Not sure what's true but it was one of my favorite places to ride when it was groomed nicely. I wish I would of known that last national was going to be it's last one. I would of went.

People are having to much fun, and some dirt on private land is sliding down a hill.

Not sure. I asked the owner of Briar Cliff and he confirmed it.

Unfortunately, there is a local water supply lake over the hill behind the trees in the first turn. Been there since long before my dad opened the track in 1983. The EPA has been concerned about erosion into the lake from the track and for years we have been trying to do all of the things they require. It's gotten to the point where it's impossible to keep the gates open and keep up with all of the work that needs done, especially since we are involved in so many other things now.

Fortunately, there are still a lot of good tracks in the area, but I'm sorry to say that Steel City has probably run it's last race.

Wow.... Just, wow... Thanks for clarifying DC...

As a kid who grew up in Pittsburgh, I definitely have awesome memories of going to Steel City.

This honestly just put a damper on my day Sad

Pretty much sucks. Thanks for chiming in DC. I had a lot of fun on that track. Those offcamber whoops after the start around 99-03 ish were so gnarly and are forever lodged in my memory haha

Sad to see it go. Wanted to say thanks to Racer Prroductions for having such a kick ass track so close to me, and bringing a lot of high quality races to Steel City.

wow, that sucks it's gone. D5 tracks keep dwindling, what used to be one of the fastest AMA districts is flopping into a district with about 4 tracks. it's not even D5 anymore, went to pamx a few years back. only good tracks left are PVR and High Point.

What a shame. Heres some crappy cell phone shots from the 2011 and 2012 national.

This is bullshit. I love SC. I moved go VA and never thought my last race at SC had already happened.

I see this happening more often, everywhere. I work in civil construction, and environmental controls are a HUGE issue. I still don't see how this couldn't have been fixed though. Some Rip Rap ditches, some 57 stone, super silt fence, check dams... Good to go! Man, I'm bummed right now.
