Edited Date/Time 8/7/2014 7:57pm

KTM hold the red plate in the MX1 class in the AMA and GP
KTM holds the red plate in the MX2 class CMRC (canada), GP

That's what I was thinking. It's strange to me he wouldn't ride one. He was involved, or at least gave his input, in the decision making process....at least that's what he said in a racerx interview. The bike seems to fit larger (in MX terms) riders well. But I guess at the end of the day these guys are doing this for a living, and if they're not comfortable on the bike then they don't want to risk their livelihood. Personally, I think there's more to it than that, but that's just my opinion...and that's based on what I know of davi and friends of mine that worked closely with him at Suzuki and Honda.

It's pretty impressive and makes you feel they are the brand to be on. So much so that I was ready to sell my rmz450 and hop on either a 15 350 or 450 Ktm. Thankfully I had a chance to ride the Ktm last week, and for me no comparison. Looks like I'll be grabbing another 15 rmz450.

That is what happens when you hire the right riders. It is as simple as that.

Somebody gets it. All the bikes are good, but some are better suited for some people than others.

Shouldn't a serious "factory" team be able to make even a bike that is not perfectly suited to a rider a whole hell of a lot closer to perfect than what you or I can buy?

Or do you contend that the core design/frame geometry cannot be overcome if it just isn't right for a certain rider's style?

For me I could not ever really ride the 98 RM I bought and sold it after trying everything to get comfy on it. But if i were on a big name team could they fix it for me? Not that I had any talent...just asking.

You forget how picky factory riders are they have to have everything just right. Look at the Jeremy McGrath refused to use the AL frame Honda but other people were fine on it. Same goes with the 2002 CR250R motor some ran it some did not. If the rider has enough talent they can pretty much make any bike work unless they run a weird setup. You're right though, the factory teams have so many parts at their disposal they should be able to fix almost any weird quirk.

tottaly agree , when you have the money to buy all the top riders , this will happen , TC222 would win the champ on any brand , same with JH, RD ,AND KROC , when you look at mx2 in the gp , you d think Honda 250f , was nt good , cause there are hardly any , then in the US, the whole class is nearly Honda , but as a brand KTM has brought in all the top riders , managers ,enginers , and it has def payed off for them , in dominance , does this make them the best bike out there ,? imo no , but they as good as everything now , which 10 yr ago , id say they only could have dreamed

OP started with all things Red Plate...MX2...etc.

As to the nay--sayers...

What happens when KTM changes things "up"...newer, lighter, better, even...maybe...more "SXish"?

For me, right now, there are things prefer on my PC suspended KXF over my WP/Factory Services SXF-FE; however, I'm pretty sure I'll be changing my opinion when the new Factory Editon gets here.

I can understand where Davi is coming from. The bikes are different. That's all there is to it.

I remember when people said KTM would never win a race in the USA...

Then they said they'd never win a title in the USA...

Now look at KTM, they're DOMINATING the 450 class....!

KTM has always had the reputation of "best stock bike for the retail price". But I think that is going to change soon: http://instagram.com/p/rJ5JWoBPX7/

Nonsense. The only domination this year was Tomac dropping KR and RD like they were B riders.

Seriously though. It really is about the riders. KR and RD have been the top guys this year. Is anyone really going to argue that they would have been slower on factory a Suzuki...or Kawi? Do you really believe that KR is going to slow down next year because he is on a Zook? Would Herlings have been slower on a Kawi?

The whole KTM dominance is a joke. It is no different that the Japanese "dominance" or mfg in the early 1980s. They dominated, because they sold at zero profit and took market share. KTM is merely buying market share in the racing world as a sales and business strategy. Eventually...they will get tired of spending money. The fanboy mindset of some people is comical.

They make a great bike. The fit, finish, and brakes are a cut above. The overall bike design and feel may suit some riders...and other not so much. At the pro racing level...all the bikes can and do win. If Yamaha wanted set up factory teams, and buy all the top talent...they could 'dominate' just the same.
