why a lot of you don't like the LL's track

Fantastic detective work but I was at LL a long time ago, not this year.

I'm sure you could find my information if you looked hard enough. If you would refrain from publishing my personal information to the animals on here I would greatly appreciate it.

29th in 250 B.

Had qualifiers at Lakewood, Cycle Ranch, and Lake Whittney. The difference between those tracks and LL are night and day.

Just a quick look at the qualifiers and you would know he isn't taking about this year

Ive raced all of the tracks and they are all great tracks. The difference is Lorettas is super technical and gets way rougher. In 2009 I raced 9 of the 12 outdoors and also raced Lorettas. I remember after one of my motos at Lorettas thinking this track is way rougher than any of the outdoor national tracks.

Big jumps don't make the track challenging, or necessarily fun either.
LL is a competition of the highest level of am racing.
Sure, I only watched the videos and followed the coverage from 3,000 miles away, but my impression of the track was that it was very technical, challenging, and balanced. There were a few jumps that only a few guys seemed be be able to do smoothly.
The triple heading out to the back section, and the jump after the finish to the base of the tunnel before crossing the start.
Never mind the dirty dozen offering 50 way tackle that section, the balance of inside/outside corner lines, the big off camber by the Rocky Mountain rig, etc.
I always say when someone complains about a track - "Everyone has to ride the same track".

Thanks! I've never had an experience that involved so much stress and so much fun all at the same time!

The primary difference between LL and those tracks is the land that they are located on. LL is completely flat and packed into a small area. To compensate, all the terrain is man-made. The whole track just feels crunched together. While it would be completely fine for an 85 or 125, it was just felt way too tight for a 250f -- it felt more like SX than moto because of its technicality.

Conversely, Lakewood, Lake Whitney, and Cycle Ranch are on gigantic plots of land with huge elevation changes. A lot more opportunity to "hang it out" if you will.

I don't know if you've had the pleasure of visiting Lake Whitney before it shut down or Cycle Ranch, but those are two of the best tracks in the United States.

Lakewood is a ton of fun as well:

Lake Whitney, and Cycle Ranch are two of the best tracks ever , I even like Lakewood back when it was called Lakerock.Wink

Your post couldn't be more misleading, and was more of a rant about a type of rider then the actual track.

And since you felt the need to make a new thread, I'll throw this in. You can make a track flow better and have more options without making huge triples double rhythm sections whoops whatever the hell you are talking about. It doesn't need a hundred new jumps. That's not what anyone wants. Did you watch last 450a Moto? Renzland was on hampshires wheel for most of the race, yet there was only probably 1 or maybe 2 places where any kind of an alternate line was possible. There is not a single technical obstacle on the race track anymore besides the Ten Commandments which have shrunk to about half the size they use to be in the last couple years.

Remember the table single or table triple in the back? Or the section of singles after the finish line? Or how gnarly the commandments were...

Every jump has just gotten so small over the last 5 years or so and the hardest part of the track is now a sandy sweeper.. It's one lined for two equally matched riders
Dude, I will give you a little clue. Back when you were just a shit stain, Dave was ripping harder than you will ever dream of. He has also been around these forums with a lot of us for a long time. For some reason, he quit posting for a time and that must have been when you showed up. See, when you get to know how people are over time, you can learn to read between the lines. I guess I understand if you just showed up and started reading posts from him, they might seem a little............ Hillbilly. Get it? The guy claims to be nothing but what he is. No need to judge or bring up spelling or grammar errors. He knows they are there and so do we so you just read what he posts and laugh and know he is a down home cool ass guy that any of us would love to sit around and get drunk with and talk MX. Don't even think you could ride with him, you cant.

Is it clear now? Just enjoy his posts and insight and know where he is coming from.

If you've been on here awhile you get used to the BS some folks spew and scan over there name. stop and read what other folks have to say, You can tell they know what they're talking about. My writing and English could be alot better but you get for the most part what I'm trying to write. I guess it comes from years of being in a hurry at work...I just right enough to no what I was trying to jot down then move on .

hillbillie is one of the guys I stop and read what he has to say.

Gringoe, Triple Five, all good, but it's honestly a question I ask -- and I am sure that's the same most guys would say about any track that do or don't do well on.

We've never really had big jumps at Loretta Lynn's, other than the tabletop, but you either had to make it so far that only a few classes could jump it -- and minis would still try -- or small enough that almost everyone could jump it.

What Marc Peters and my brother-in-law Jeff Russell have come up with is a rough, uneven track that's less spectacular than it is challenging. With long motos, plenty of lines (not sure where the one-line criticism comes from) and a cross-section of the country's best riders, it works out best for what we're trying to do, which is hold an AMA National Championship on a "level" playing field and then send everyone home safely.

As always, any suggestions or ideas or just even straight-up complaints are welcome -- we listen to them all. And thanks for coming.

Keep doing what you're doing. I really don't want to race long motos with a track that has continual booter-style obstacles. Bringing the racing back to the ground--the rough ground--just feels like motocross. The most endured will finish well. Tracks that don't flow really make the truly-best riders shine. And we want to see who is the best at Loretta Lynn's. Seeing who the truly best is, is very much so provided on that track, in the way mxsports orients it.

To complainers: Go to mini o's if you want to race somewhat of a supercross event.

Moto has become a sx track in the field.

And I love hitting big fucking jumps ,but ,what is gone is the whopped out chop infested 4th gear straight that takes guts and skill to pass on or out brake at the end of. Almost ever track has a jump in ever straight that has a backside landing.

That backside landing dictates the speed of that straight. And jump faces are packed in so hard that ruts rarely form.

My track here in my yard is a jump infested skate/bmx like mess that is just fun as hell to ride, but to race on,everyone would go the same speed.

The track at LLs sorts out riders in areas other than the jumps, till you have ridden it you just cant grasp how ruff it is.

This year with the anthills on the inside of turns made for the fairest set up when one took the inside and one took the outside.

With those removed everyone would be going inside.

I had a very wet and rainy moto at LL's in 1982. You couldn't see very far at times and there were theses "suck-holes" that...if you got in one...your bike was STUCK! Slippery, Rutty, Water EVERYWHERE...Jumping anything was damn near impossible... It was AWESOME!

During another moto, same LL's...hot as HELL...track was perfect and, for a guy with a dislocated shoulder from just a few weeks earlier, I was having another AWESOME time...as long as I kept moving. Once you stopped moving, like when you get at the end of the finish-chute, you'd start "raining inside your helmet": sweating like you've never sweated before.
It was Awesome!

I remember getting off my bike and going and laying down in the creek...all my gear on.

I've been back since then for "business". I love watching the kids going thru the EXACT same kind of stuff I did...30 years later.

It's still awesome.

That pretty much nails it, if describing my 1997 week at LL as well. And yeah, it was awesome!

DC does more for this sport, from top to bottom, than anyone else in it. And yet he still comes on a message board and welcomes criticism from what other people refer to as "keyboard warriors." The dude is pure class.

It has nothing to do with the jumps! Yes I am spoiled because I ride in Michigan (d14) and ride tracks like Baja, Polka Dots, Bulldogs and Portland to name a few. All of them are fairly expansive outdoor layouts with uphills, downhills, great dirt etc.

The track at LL's is definitely challenging and it is really good for the limited amount of space and the flat terrain it is layed out on. If I ever go again I will be in a lot better shape and practice the hell out of my rut riding!
8/6/2014 8:52am
I think the tracks looks, fun, hard, pretty technical.Lots of ruts and different lines in corners,
It would be a dream just to go there and ride it, maybe next year.

Post a reply to: why a lot of you don't like the LL's track
