I don't think so

MXdN is an energy drink war and to much of an AMA vs FIM race.

I have to agree with you on that. It seems the "business" side of things is truly the controlling factor. But, such is life.

So you think if Stewert went and rode GP's, team USA wouldn't pick him?

Personally I think if Stewart doesn't do a full season of Nationals we shouldn't pick him.

I'm sure he won't do more than 1 or 2 GP's

I still think this whole "we might do a couple GP's" is nothing but spin to cover the fact that the we wont see him defend his outdoor title. Along with all this "giving back to the fans" bullshit. The real fans want to see him outdooors, period.

I would say no way it would happen now and I could be wrong about where he was racing at the time, but didn't Billy Liles get picked for the team when he was racing the GP's a while back?

Why would we?
No Americans go over there unless its a last resort. Riders who are qualified to represent the USA at the MXdN don't find themselves in that position.

yeah, Liles was racing the GP's and was picked for the team.

this question is too general though. if the American GP rider (a stewart or carmichael type) was a top tier rider that should be on the team anyways, yeah, he would be picked. if it's some second or third tier guy, and you're saying pick him just because he has some euro experience, no way.

Yup, he sure did:

"In 1992, when Damon Bradshaw, Jeff Stanton, Mike Kiedrowski and Team Manager, Roger DeCoster refused to compete in the Motocross des Nations. It was the so called "B" team that traveled to Australia composed of Billy Liles, Jeff Emig, Mike LaRocco and Team Manager Roy Jansen that brought the USA its 12th straight Motocross des Nations win and final win for several years to come. He also finished 3rd in 1992 in the 500cc MX World Championship"

I'm thinking ahead like if Zach Osborne were to win or be a top 3 GP guy , would he be picked.

Sadly probably not.

Tallon Vohland for yrs held up the Stars & Stripes overseas as well as Donny Schmidt.

Both those guys competed against Everts, Alby and other fast Euro's and even got second in the premier class. They were not even given a chance to compete in the MXDN. To me that is BS!

seeing how his track record here was marginal at best, i'd say no.

I still dont think it would happen. Zach rode very well at the des Nation but all of (except 3) of the really fast Americans werent there. even if he was to be a top 3 gp guy i still think there would be a few other Lites riders on this side of the pond that could lay wood to him.

Vohland and Schmidt were awesome GP riders, along with Bobby Moore and Trampas Parker! I grew up watching those guys.

Sadly I'm not sure an American competing over here would be picked for Team USA unless they were to win a Championship. As GP's are still widely regarded as 2nd rate I think the powers that be would deem a rider too much of a risk unless he can totally dominated the GP field. Unless it's Stewart or VP I personally don't think that is likely to ever happen.

Just out of interest, if Roger De Coster were to step down as team manager who do you think would step into his shoes?

But he was already established in the US so they knew his capabilities. I don't think someone like Osborne would have much hope unless he proves himself on American soil.

Didnt RC just do a part time in nationals also and was picked for the MXdN?

I read the question differently. Like if DV12 (rider who came to Nats from the GPs) got passed over by Team France one year, would the US squad ever pick him up for their team (let's say he finished 2nd/3rd in our series). I'd be for it ... heck he'd have better knowledge and experience on what he was headed into.

I don't think you can "pick up" a rider from a different country, they would still require citizenship I believe.

How many years has De Coster been manager for now? It seems like forever - he must be one of, if not THE most long standing team managers at the MXDN. Most teams seem to have a different manager each year, a bit like the Rider Cup.

Doubt that would ever happen, Zach racing for Puerto Rico is a little different to a Frenchman riding for the US. Plus Im sure you'd rather pick someone else than DV12 Grinning

I reckon he'll last half the season in GP's before he scurries off somewhere else with his tail between his legs,

I think it should be a requirement, for several reasons.

It encourages more Americans to go race GP's and win world championships for America.

Encouraging more Americans to race GP's will increase opportunities for American riders in Europe to earn a living.

Making up a team of ringers is not exciting. Making up a team that wins it before landing on foreign shores, is not exciting.

Not popular positions, I know

But stomping everyone at every MXdN gets as boring as watching RC or James run away and hide with 45 second leads in every race.

Prove Americans are the best by encouraging racers to go and bring world championships back to the USA.

Prove Americans are the best by dominating ALL motocross, not just on your home turf

Let the flaming begin
