according to my wife's immigration attorney (wife was born canadian ), no. It happens but the US government doesn't like the dual citizenship from a foreigner trying to become a us citizen, or a US citizen trying to achieve dual citizenship somewhere else.

Well there's a wide range of answers Laughing

Until about ten years ago natural born Australian citizens were not permitted by law to hold dual citizenship.

BTW to answer the original question in this thread, my understanding is that you need to show your passport to verify eligibility for the MXdN.
