i can see some humble pie been eaten around this place on 9th august! he is coming over to win- the championship should already be won by that point, he's not the sort of rider to ride conservatively- he will go all out for the win and nothing else will do!
WOW how can someone be that stupid or ignorant...

You really just said that herlings is on another level from everts. Seriously Herlings hasn't even raced in MX1 let alone won multiple titles like everts. I'm sorry but your an idiot for that statement.

i wasnt talking about his acheivements- obviously everts has acheived alot more than jeffrey has so far (herlings is only 19 years old, everts retired in his 30s) but as far as how talented/ fast jeffrey is on a motorcycle- in my opinion he is the best rider in the world at the minute, and better than all that came before him

Its only like saying that james stewart took riding supercross to another level from those before him, RC did from mcgrath, mcgrath did from those before him etc....

most of the people around the gp paddock say the same thing (including everts himself) - jeffrey is a better sand rider than stefan ever was, and has now stepped up his game on other surfaces. Ive spoken to a few top riders that agree, when they see herlings ride in person, he is the best they have ever seen

you can say what you want about him but if you actually see him ride a motorcycle you cant deny his talent

I'm looking forward to seeing him race in America- it will be a treat for you guys to see him ride

Im really not sure if your fishing or an idiot.

How is herlings the fastest on a motorcycle when we haven't seen him on a supercross track or tested against the worlds best beside a few races at MXDN.

I'm not denying his talent, yes he may be fast but all we have seen is GP's. To me KROC is probably one of the best in the world, he is proven at GP'S, SX and Nationals. He has swallowed his pride and took the risk, he successfully made the transition to the most competitive series in the world the american SX and MX series. Seriously the mx1 class at GP's has some decent depth but the mx2 class is extremely lackluster

Sorry but until he races some decent competition then he is one of the best 250 riders in the world at the moment and that's it.

To be fair you're going faster on a motocross track than a supercross track Whistling Silly

I'm quite sure he is the fastest 250F rider anyway.

We're talking motocross here- not supercross. Jeffrey has zero supercross experience so obviously he's not going to be better at that than riders that are doing it full time for a living. He would probably pick it up very quickly if he went to America full time though just like Roczen did.

You think mx1 has a deep field and mx2 doesn't have any decent competition- the only reason some people think that is because Herlings is beating everyone so easily. If you look at the laptimes from teuschental last weekend you will see the top mx2 riders are running about the same pace as the top mx1 riders, herlings is a couple of seconds a lap faster than everyone in both classes....

the competition isn't slow in mx2 - it's just herlings is THAT good that he makes them look slow.

Anyone thats lapping the same times as desalle, cairoli etc on a 250f is not slow!

In my opinion (and others share the same opinion) jeffrey is the best 250f rider in the world (outdoors) - the best rider in any class in the world in my opinion.

It where Everts his one words that jeff is a better rider than he whas in an interview some years back.

And talking about interviews, a read one here this week, and by the sound of it Herlings is not the only one coming over to race an AMA National. GC #259 stated that if he is ok to ride he what to prep him on some of the nationals for the last 2 gp's in Brazil and Mexico, but only if he is ready to ride and is fit. if he come's back in the hp's mx2, he only whants to go for a podium.

Comparing 2 riders of different eras is bullshit!!!!
Everts had much more competition than Herlings.Put Herlings,Roczen,Cairoli and the best americans together in one class, let them race and after we will look at the results.
Do you think if Roczen had stayed in the GP's ,Herlings would have dominated?

He should man the fuck up, jump on the Honda and piss all over Cairoli's parade... give us something to get off our asses for and get to the races... Roczen manned up and is leading the AMA and might even win the thing at his first attempt, and he is a year older .. in 10 years time Herlings will be remembered not for his mastery in the sand, but his ability to put it in bags.

Roczen is older but their both 19 turning 20 this year.

In the time Herling's has sandbagged the mx2 class, K-roc has learnt supercross,Won supercross races and MX races on both the 250 and 450. Yeah Roczen may not have won any more titles but he's certainly pushed the envelope learning supercross and adapted to mx in America…. Where as Herling's has stayed in his comfort zone.

Totally agree and that is why we have to give huge props to Kenny for having the stones to come over and learn an entirely new skill in SX. I have no doubt that Herlings could learn and win in SX given some time, patience, and good instruction. We all know he is stupid fast but his continued sandbagging isn't going to push him along any further. But hey, if he wants to stay in Europe, make big cake, and ride at 85% for the next decade and claim to be the fastest ever! who are we to say he is wrong?

This is why Kenny is on his way to becoming (or has already become) the king of the castle for badasses.

If Roczen were still there, all the paddock guys would be talking about him like they used to and he would be battling for titles in MX1. Since he left though Everts now thinks Jeffery is better, Imagine that. It would be easier to get all bent out of shape if Roczen didn't exist but he does and he was better than Jeffery(still is) and now is on his way to winning the hardest championship in Motocross.

Roczen deserves huge credit for learning SX, I agree. But at the same time going to America and racing SX is hardly a necessity for improving as a rider. I guarantee that Jeffrey has improved significantly since 2011. If you want to ride Supercross (and can get a ride of course) then by all means, go for it. Not everyone wants to though.

As a fan, yes I wish he'd move up. I want to see that titanic season long battle between him and Cairoli as much as anyone else. But I disagree that he's a sandbagger or that he's doing something a little bit underhand or wrong by staying down another year. JH isn't breaking age records by how long he's so far stayed in MX2, and once he leaves he can't ever really go back. If the competition doesn't want to be at the mercy of when JH does or doesn't move up - then really they are the ones that need to step up.

How can you possibly disagree he's a sandbagger?

He's got literally NO competition.

He's gonna piss this title in regardless of missing races.

Who cares how old he is. He's old enough to move up and has no comp in his current class. I could let it slide this year, but another? Fuck man!

Very easy for people to say hè should move up
When there were first talks of him moving up to mx1,he wouldn't be allowed under the Decarli pit
He would have to stay under the mx2 tent

Who knows the politics going on behind the scenes
In the mx2 class ktm has no one who can fill herlings shoes, maybe in the future pootjes can, but tixier isn't consistent enough
All ktm wants is another mx2 and mx1 title

I imagine ktm pays him so they call the shots
Just like he wouldn't be allowed to race Unadilla without the consent of the KTM chiefs
The only way he likely gets to race mx1 right now is to terminate his contract with ktm and sign with another manufacturer

Gimme a fuckin break, he could about write a check at ANY team in Gps.

Decarli maybe is difficult with AC, but to think that he's being held back is crazy. And if that's the case, then KTM are in fact the new pussholes of the week.

Very weak. Anyone who thinks Herlings can't decide to race whatever series he wants on his own by now is crazy, KTM wouldn't force their golden child to do something he didn't want to do.

I think it's awesome he's going to race in the US. I've always wanted to see him race real moto against some stiffer competition and a full gate.

Why would he want to race a series with minimal at best competition. The last GP I caught they couldn't even fill HALF the gate. I feel sooo bad for those guys, it totally sucks.

Why would he (or anyone else really) bother? With such a small pool of talent wheres the sense of accomplishment - Who cares if he smashes every record in the books - Its European GPs - post Giuseppe.......what a waste of talent!

GPs used to be the heart and soul of MX now they're not even a joke anymore.........they're actually pathetic, at least they appear that way on TV. I know there may be a few stalwarts that insist everything is great in the GPs and I just don't understand the system, to that I'd say your right, I don't.

It really is a bummer for Herlings and guys of his caliber. His whole career so far has been under FIM/Giuseppe and all the rules that decimated the GPs prestige and most of the competition.

Even though I think know better and have been told so, I still can't help but sub-consciously at least discount Herlings accomplishments so far.....it's not his fault (unless he continues to avoid competition - I'll give him a mulligan this year) and that I think is BS!

It will be interesting to see what he's really got for the race(s) he does do over here. I'd like to see him at Southwick.

His whole season is going to consist of however many races he decides to man up and race in the US. I know he's young and all but what a waste of a year. BTW I didn't bother reading most of this thread so if these sentiments have already been posted I apologize.

Learning and competing in SX regardless of where may not be considered a necessity to improve as a RIDER, but it sure enough is if you want to be considered a complete RACER. As much as I prefer MX over SX, it is what it is.

Well, Iv'e always thought the term “sandbagger” when discussing anyone in the pro ranks is a bit of a contradiction in itself personally. Jeffrey's a dominant pro in a pro series – it's not like he's knocking around in an amateur class with a bunch nobodies. The decision when or when not to move onto other things always comes down to the will of the individual and what's best for themselves. He's earned the right, taken the risks, gone through the pain etc, to dictate his own future. If he loves his lifestyle in Europe, doesn't have any special desire to ride SX and doesn't wish to say goodbye to the 250f (which he obviously enjoys riding vs the, by comparison, cumbersome 450) then the decision is clear. He has to stay in MX2. From my own selfish pov I don't like it any more than you guys do, but I also can't fault his logic in consideration of the above.

Then Roczen, along with a couple of others, is the only complete racer on the planet. GP MX also requires a different skill set to National MX (and vice versa), so surely by that same logic, RV wouldn't be considered the complete racer either? Granted, SX is a great sport and has its place, but it IS a different sport.

RE: your last statement. Are you fishing or what? How can you possible say that, you can think it but that makes it far from reality. LOL

JH is very fast, he's a phenom; but there are lots of phenoms in the world. Some regions cultivate their phenoms better than others, the US actually has a whole bunch of phenoms. Unfortunately in Europe and from where Herlings is from cultivating phenoms is not done too well. In fact many EU phenoms are probably farming fields and have never even swung a leg over a bike as they can see no benefit under the current GP system.

Right now JH is a fast phenom in a small pond a VERY small pond.

I know Herlings looks real fast against his competition under the current structure that is EU GPs, and goes real well in the sand but until he competes against a full gate of his moto peers we will never know.

You have to agree that he certainly isn't pushing himself anymore while his perers are pushing themselves to the absolute limit every week. You also have to agree that can't bode well for Herlings or be any kind of recipe for success if he ever wants to be taken seriously as well rounded racer as opposed to a one trick GP pony.

I wonder how he feels about it? Time will definite tell on this one, because I'm sure if he thinks he's up for it we'll see him do an entire US season soon enough; just like all the other fast Euros that have wanted to continue to challenge themselves. It has to be killing him with minimal competition, half full starting gates and everyone second guessing his accomplishments with guys like me spouting off on the Interweb.

It astounds me that someone can think a 250 rider who's had very limited competition in MX2 that has never raced the premier class on either side of the pond is the fastest rider on the planet. Call me old-fashioned, but he has a LONG way to go before he can be called the fastest.

That said, he needs to get out of MX2. If the KTM upper brass is stopping him from doing that, maybe it's time to jump ship.

Actually I don't really buy into that whole GPs use a different skill set than US Nats. logic I'm of the thinking that dirt is dirt - doesn't really matter if it's EU or US dirt. Once the different style of qualifying is done outdoors is outdoors. Sure EU tracks might form up a little different sometimes but that's from old school riding style not dirt and pretty simple to adapt to from what I've witnessed.

I agree with you re: SX being a different sport though and not sure what your point was. I would consider ANYBODY that races both SX, MX, in any series where there are FULL gates taking advantage of the entire talent pool in the region as a complete racer. Roczen definitely qualifies but so do many many others, hopefully soon JH will too - right now not so much. RV has raced on both sides of the pond during races where there are FULL gates of the best of the best and finished well so yes, I'd actually say he actually IS a well rounded racer.

If he comes over and wins do we get to say that the US nationals 250 class is weak and has no depth and talent?
No, because he would actually be beating former GP and AMA champions (four to be exact; six if you count Anderson and Bogle's regional SX titles); whereas he has not had to deal with that in the GP's for three years (plus).

You don't have to worry about that though; he's not going to win. I don't say that from a lack of talent standpoint, I say that because nobody jumps series, countries, and timezones these days and instantly competes for wins; especially if they've never raced in that series before Wink

GP pom pom wavers are setting mighty lofty expectations for a one-off race where a lot of variables will be out of JH's control.

This guy beat Villopoto 3 years ago. On 350... stuck in third gear.
