There hasn't been a wet National for years has there? Southwick 2011?

I'd like to see it rain for a change.

Seems like there is one every four years or so. The one before 'wick at Millville was epic. Mt Morris 2000 was an epic mud race as well. RC didn't do as well in that race.

Not to be a hater, but wouldn't the muddier kill some privateer budgets? I would think motor damage could be extensive depending on the amount of rain, and we all know how expensive that can be. Realistically, if you were struggling to get from race to race would you risk it this weekend and race or not if the weather is terrible?

I love a good mud race just as much as the next guy, but this was a thought that crossed my mind.
If your a privateer like my son with a stock motor it wont hurt at all!! We are from the northeast and its a common thing to race many mudders in the spring. I see it as making things a bit more even Wink

Then again a privateer could spank everyone in the mud, great equalizer

Unless RC4 was in the mix!! Woohoo

Why would a privateer run a stock motor? (serious question)

For us, its a money thing. Joey wants to race and its the only way we can do it. He has 1 bike, practice and race. Its a challenge for him, but he gives it 1000%. I certainly would love a JGR motor, but in reality, not gonna happen.
Best thing he has never ever once complained about that Yamaha 450 motor...suspension is the bigger deal.

And I'm sure that a stock motor is probably more reliable....if you don't have the means to rebuilt it after every race.
Thanks for the info.

Still looking cold and wet on saturday.. mud and elevation might make this an epic race. Betting that the FL riders are going to freeze their asses off!

Looks like the chance of rain keeps getting slimmer. Track should have plenty of moisture though with a couple days' rain leading up.

True, although this track seems to fit CP's style. Right now, the competition must already try to close the gap ...

Regarding a mudder, maybe he could go 1-1, like he did in MXGP 450 in Brazil, winning the 1st moto by 1 minute 30..., but he finished 4th in the second one, which confirms that a mudder is a kind of gamble.

His smooth style and creative lines would definitely help.

Mud is the greatest equalizer.

See the 1997 Ft. Collins flood for example, or more recently http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Colorado_floods
But then again, seeing your location, you already know about it :-)
You are right about that. Fort Collins is weird. We miss 1/2 of everything Denver gets. I guess I don't really know Denver weather that well, though. Here is what usually happens. Denver gets hit with 12 inches of snow and we get nothing. Silly The place is weird for sure.

There is obviously a front coming thru cuz the high Friday is around 75, and only around 60 on Sat. There is up to a 60% chance of rain Friday night...lets hope it doesn't wreck the track via a severe thunderstorm that washes it out...or with big hail or worse like the last few days just a little ways east of Denver.

Saturday's weather will not be the normal front range weather, but the 30% chance of rain is only for a few hours between 11AM and 2PM per the weather channel. Don't count on anything being accurate until the morning of the race, and even if they say sunny with very little chance of rain, be prepared for afternoon thundershowers.

Unless we get an absolute downpour Friday night what we're likely to have is cooler than normal temps and awesome racing!

We'll be there either way.

Anyone else watch that video from Scottie and end up completely confused? Was that supposed to be a race? I'm guessing so since there was a gate drop, but half the time it looks like he's going between fencing or he's off on the access road on the side of the track. I thought I was watching replay of Villopoto from last year...
They apparently were re-routing the riders to avoid some low areas. At the top of the first climb, the track normally goes right and drops down. It musta been a swamp down there as he was waved across an area that normally isn't track. Same thing later....avoided a low area via a shortcut. Its either that or they simply were shortening the track for the racers.

I wish his camera woulda been aimed higher so we coulda seen more.

They were running Martins and Webbs bike on the Dyno at Vickery today getting them set up for altitude, I don't think they will have problems being down on power. Wink

Nice thunderstorm just passed through, should make for a great track. Rain doesn't stick around long enough to cause a mud race.

I know they allways complain about being down on power at lakewood, but how much power do they lose at that altitude?
We dont have any high up traks in england that affect the bike like that.
Sorry quoted the wrong post.

just remember pourcel hadnt raced for 18 months up until glen helen- he made big improvements from round one to round 2- looked very good in the 2nd moto at the last round in my opinion. Even if he doesnt win this weekend i think he will improve again and be closer to the front. Its a track he's ridden very well on before- wont bother him if its a mudder either he is very quick in the mud

I expect to see CP377 steadily improve as the season progresses- certainly wouldnt bet against him going 1-1 at unadilla!!!!
