I've done that before, and no BS it helps your feet cool so good a noticible difference. Only drawbacks is the boot sponsor gets pissed and at a place like southwick at the end of a moto you could build a sandcastle with all the sand/dirt the holes let in!

Damn, I could never do that to one of my 2 pair of beloved boots. Must be nice to be able to drill holes in a pair of $500 boots! Pretty cool idea though, I bet it helps a lot. My feet are always hot, even with my Coolmax socks on Cool

I used to take my boots off before my helmet at the end of a race on hot days. Couldn't wait to get those boots off!!

Anyone remember when alpinestars brought out the airboots back i the late 80's? Think they were grey and white. I had a pair cos i thought they looked cool, but they filled up with water, mud, sand and just about anything else that was on the track. I'll try and dig out an old photo of them.

White Tech 10's and Tech 8's are vented,only the all white one's though.

I didn't know holes in boots were the new cool. I'm going back to my old boots now.

Track and Trail,

Duct Tape does NOT hold up while riding. I have tried everything I could to cover the holes on my boots before I bought new boots. I race cross country and the smallest holes let in a TON of water. I just could not make the duct tape last more than 6 miles.

We need cast-in-place threaded holes with plugs that can be screwed in or removed. We need this now.

I think I'll show up at the track with my $22 tap kit from Harbor Freight and start drilling and tapping boot toes.

Now, should the plugs be phillips, allen or torx?

Allen. . .

I think the challenge with that is that once you put a hole in a boot, the edges are very susceptible to ripping or catching on something. You'd need some sort of an insert that clamps around the holes. This can be done though.

I believe Tomac was putting dry ice in his boots at some of the rounds last year to try and stay cool.

I can't compare the speed, intensity or duration of my riding to the pros and probably not the temperatures either but I've never had a problem with my feet being too hot, maybe it's because i'm too busy trying to cool my head down. I've done some 3 hour enduros in reasonably hot weather and my feet weren't a problem then either.
