Bullshit in my opinion that the piston companies don't drill them.
im using the wiseco pistons. i guess i have never read the instructions that come with pistons. but i do agree if they know they need to be drilled they should come pre-drilled.

Well, I started the bike for the first time since the rebuild...

Fired on the first kick, completely dry carb before this. Sudco did a good job on setting the float, it's perfect. I loaded Jetting from what I could understand, and the bike runs pretty spot on. I don't like to just let it idle, but I also don't beat on it for break in. Bike sounded nice, clean, and crisp. The '07 Master Cylinder is a HUGE difference in braking power. Excited to get the bike on the track this weekend....

My '04 likes to run lean. I was running a 178 main yesterday and it was sputtering hard on top until the temps cooled off later in the evening. I should have thrown a 175 in, but was too tired between practices. It was hotter 'an balls out yesterday.

Interesting - I haven't gotten the bike up on the main jet. But my pilot circuit is pretty damn spot on. I am going to richen the air screw and see what the reaction is. Right now, it's SUPER crisp and clean, makes me excited when I talk about it. No loading up, or anything odd like that. Also no bog either...took her for a small spin up the street just tiddling around to just touch on a few gears. Everything seemed snappy and smooth, no bogs or anything to show a lean condition.

That's good that you're feeling you have good settings so far, but I'd wait until you actually give it a good pounding on the riding terrain you plan on ripping up before you get too settled. There's a pretty big difference between tiddling up the street and holding it wide down a sandy whooped out section (or whatever you're gonna be holding it wide down Wink ) I'm not saying you don't have good settings, I'm just saying it's a little hard to tell by just starting it up and idling around.

This. Mine always feels real nice going up and down the road but getting it to behave on the mountain was a chore. Don't be afraid to go richer! They jet weird even with a keihin.

Well, took off the forks that it came with, and replaced with '07 CRF forks for a killer deal. Also picked up a 270mm brake kit. Can't wait to ride tomorrow.

I've come so far.

FGR01 helped me with jetting...and the damn girl tried to kill me, more than once. Bike started WAY lean..and we spent the day richening it up, and the bike was getting meaner and meaner.

Rode it like a 250F, and it about put me on my ass several times, wheeling out of ruts is not for a slow guy like me. Finally learned some type of throttle control, and had a lot of fun with the bike.

It absolutely screams in the mid range. Happy to have the bike together, and really am enjoying it. Ready to put more hours on it!

You were warned...Silly ..Once you get use to how the power and a little clutch with the RC valve it'll seem like it has some traction control is what Honda was looking for with the case reed motor, the more time you spend on it you'll see what I mean, have fun...Wink

Started at 48 pilot and 175 main. Settled for the day on the 48 pilot and 182 main. Bike became an evil beast when we went richer. Only problem? Some guy in Phoenix at a lower elevation was telling me how much leaner than my base settings he was running. So I bought the range of jets much leaner than where I was.

FGR came through with the richer jetting, and the bike really woke up. Now going to buy the full 180 range. It's only getting hotter here, so that should richen the bike. Then again, I'll also start riding nights as well.

BL - I really like how predictable and consistent the power comes on - it's a monster but it's also deceptively smooth. I caught myself in fast sections going much much much faster than I am used to....intact with the 4 stroke I focus on my shifts; with the motor it never became a thought what gear I was in. The mid was so strong it'd just flat pull.

I have a 51 rear sprocket, and thinking of dropping to a 49 just to try.

Still have other jetting I want to try also; richer pilot even though that circuit seemed fine, I also want to try a richer needle.

Dropping to a 49 I believe will make it ever faster on top, I'm 6'-2 at 198 now...I like the motor because of the predictability of the it too, a nice bottom hit and then a upshift and hold on...

50 pilot . where/what elevation are u at? Also I find with richer pilot it will tolerate the 180 main . However I do ride at elevation. So there's that

I too run a 13/49 setup. After trying a 46 47 48 49 50 I settled on 49. 51 seems like it'd be pretty brutal .

Agreed, I believe I am running a 48 and 178 in mine.

I ran that jetting for awhile. The bigger pilot seemed to help with roll on/ helped make it short shiftable. With the 48 178 mine still sputtered if whacked wfo in tall gears/felt meh on top. With a 180 I swear I've pulled 11000 rpm a time or two. I'd tell u where it signs off if I only knew. Revs like a 250f ( with a lot more power).

I'm at 3K feet, density altitude will vary from 3K to 4K depending on how bad the heat is. Running Super M with 100 octane non leaded pump mixed at 32:1.

BTW. motor mods:
PC pipe w/304 silencer
Vforce 3
BR9EIX plug

That's a pretty cold plug. I like a 8 series NGK. Br8es or b8es. The finewires suck. Edited.for accuracy lol

I been playing with plugs in my Audi and juxtapositioned the numbers.I'm sure a 8,is as hot as we went tho. Hotter than that pinged. Ur right tho NGK higher number is colder plug.

I'm almost positive it was a BR8EIX you have in there.

Although we are at 3K feet, don't let the altitude and high heat fool you into thinking we need crazy lean jetting here. We have almost no humidity and lately it has been extra dry, like single digit numbers. The lack of moisture in the air offsets the elevation and heat to some extent. On both my YZ125 and YZ250 I am very close to stock jetting even when I go to 4500 feet here in AZ.

So humidity will essentially effect jetting more or less depending on the amount of moisture in the air? Could that explain why my settings seem to be leaner than other guys at similar temps/elevation? I ask because I swear my bike is running rich on the "recommended " settings I see on forums . Could that be due to the high humidity in my area?
