He can tell you better than me but, basically get .03" taken off the base of your cylinder and change the carb. Lots of carb options though and it's hard to go backwards from the stock Mikuni. I went with the cheapest route for carb and got a 2000 and up YZ 250 from eBay and re-jetted it. Eric Gorr at Millennium Tech did my cylinder.
The .030 off the cylinder base is the trick on 05-07 to correct the squish on the head. For the 02-04 the trick is to run an 05 base gasket. The squish does not need the correction the 05-07s need. Keihin AS carbs rule. Replace the o-rings in the head pipe of flange if ti starts drooling.

ProX stuff any good for a top end, or just go OEM/wiseco?

I hate buying used bikes...

Seller eluded the bike just did a top end...then I get told, "Well, the guy I bought it from just did it"

To me, that means, "I don't know when it was done last" So if I move on this thing, I am at least putting a top end in it.

Little over a hundred bucks. The case reed motor is nice because all you do is drain the coolant, move a few hoses and plastics and pull the jug.

Word of advice: THE FOURTH CYLINDER STUD BOLT IS BEHIND THE RC COVER. My idiot asshole best friend thought Honda was genius enough to have three studs, so we removed the three that were visible and started prying on my cylinder mating surfaces. Everytime I see the little gouges that I had to cover in Hondabond, I curse his fucking idiot name.

The rubber grommet right?...there should be one to connect them...

Well it's not quite as fancy as some of the others in here but it's starting to come together. Just picked up some new Dunlops from the local shop. Hopefully have those on tomorrow.

'06 for me... it ran like a POS (burbled, plug fouling, hard hitting beast) until doing some of the CamP mods (thanks for the info Cam, btw). Now, it is one of the strongest 250's I have ever ridden, and absolutely LOVE riding this. Suspension was off too, but had a re-valve and WOW... between the motor and suspension , I wouldn't trade this off for a '14 CR250... If there WAS one, lol

Did Watts port, match cases, and head mod this bike? If so, how much better does it run than stock? I am assuming he builds damm good bikes.

I got mine directly from Boyesen. Go on the web page I think it's like 89.95. Call jd jetting and that's where the carb is. Don't waste your money on the jet kit. It will help but does not compare to the carb.

Ok, my exhaust port is weird?

My exhaust port is D shaped, and my flange is round? I thought only the '02-'03 ports were D shaped?

That said, is 1/8th inch of play in the linkage OK? I haven't had it apart to grease yet.

Also, will ' 07 crf450 wheels fit this bike?

The Boyesen flange is d shaped. That's why it's the one to get.

Socket,

I've been racing the '04 for a couple years now and aboslutely love it. I bought the Boysen flange about six months ago, had to call Boysen directly, ordered it, they shipped it right to my door. But let me save you a TON of time and $$$--I just sent my motor over to Terry Varner at Varner Motorsports--he decked the cylinder, milled the head and ported the cylinder (everything CamP is taking about). He can also reshape your stock exhaust flange, and even recommends using the stock pipe with his mods. He'll give you the right jetting specs for your carb (I have the stock Mikuni, which is NOT a problem, doesn't need to be replaced) and for around $450, you have a totally race ready motor that Terry said has an extra 6 HP on the bottom end. Being an old guy, I wanted more bottom end, not just the blast in the middle. I got EXACTLY what I wanted--bottom end that is as good as an Open bike, but completely manageable! Terry built the best motors Honda ever had, a still does--he has every note from every mod they tried back in those days, and his knowledge is priceless.

Almost forgot--on the suspension, I wanted to go to someone who worked on these bikes back when they were new, and I found Merge Suspension in Oklahoma--the owner was the suspension guy that used to do David Vuilliman's CR250R back in the '05 timeframe (it's the same suspension as the 04 you have). Great service, great pricing, and I really love the results. I think Factory Connection also used to do those bikes back in the day, so they have the mods to do for your specifics as well.
