Where to buy press plates like this?

Edited Date/Time 4/14/2014 2:37pm
Is there a special name for the press plate in the first section of this video (not the one in the youtube screengrab)? I'd like to get one for my press, not sure what to search for and "arbor plate" isn't coming up with this style.

IMS makes that fixture and it does a great job. You can get one from K+L Supply thru your local dealer The K+L part # 37-9572 I don't know what the current price is

I said I was not interested in the special crank too, only the arbor plates. Try reading posts before replying, you'll like it. Silly

I think that a few of us are confused. Are you talking about the triangle ardor plate that he is using to press the crank cheeks together or the rectangular plate that he uses when pressing the pin?

Sorry for any confusion - thought I was clear when I said 'arbor plate' but realize how the videos could throw you off. I'm looking for the arbor plate in the first video that he uses to press off the pin. My plate is very thick. The plate he uses looks like it is thinner, or gradually steps down to the thinner area.

The jig everyone else is talking about is cool but about $1500 on the "too expensive" side.

Honestly I am thinking more about just sending my crank to someone who does a bunch every week. I'd love to learn how but the cost of tools needed is a barrier for something I do as a hobby.

I have never seen one for sale. The one that we have is just a piece of plate with a notch cut out of it. That one is a bit nicer as it has that semi-circle machined in it so that the whole piece can be more rigid but still slip between the cheeks. If you used a thinner plate and it started to bend before the pin pushed out, you could weld a stiffener across the bottom.

FYI....Never stick your face next to the piece that is being pressed on like the guy in the video. I have seen things come apart too many times. I don't think that a face full of metal shrapnel would feel good. A lot of guys wear a thick leather apron while pressing.

If you watch video at 7:44 it has part # and phone # to the source of the plate.

Well, the answer was provided for you in the video. Try watching the whole video first maybe?
