They switch from Brembo to Magura and visa versa all the time and it makes it hard to buy the clutch lever for your bike. You really need to check out the master cylinder logo when ordering a clutch lever.

It actually has quite a bit of play in it. I think I could run it like it is no problem, but will re-route it just to be safe. Thanks again for the heads up!!

I am doing a YZ 250 build and every time I see one here in Vital it makes me think mine is gonna be lame! Nice build, bike looks awesome! BTW, where did you get the carbon wrap from? Did you say it doesn't last long in the silencer? Thanks.

Thanks! I bought the wrap off eBay. It was cheap, around 10 bucks. I've never tried it on the silencer before, but after 1 ride it still looks perfect. It lasts on the hubs for a while, should get a year out of it there no problem.

Love the bike and the graphics look awesome. It definitely has that team bike look :-) You should be very happy with how it came out. I've had a large piece of the carbon wrap for quite a while. Bought it wrap the mirrors on my wife's Mini Cooper a cpl of yrs ago but never got around to doing it. I have a spare silencer and would love to give it a try. Any tricks to putting it on?

Take the Allens out before you start. I took a blow drier and slowly removed the stock decals to keep the glue on the sticker and not the silencer. Then I just flopped a big sheet on it and let it hang over evey edge an inch or so. Then with a new exacto knife just trim around the can. It took about 5 minutes total to lay it down. I just cut out around the welds on the hanger brackets so there is a bit of aluminum up top you can see but I couldn't get it to lay well on the welds.

Then I popped the Allen's back in. Make sure you trim around the heads of the bolts or the wrap with twist when your tighten it all the way. Them I trimmed around the rivets and slapped the stock decals back on.

Let me know how it goes!!

Ride report:

I rode on a very sandy track today and was overall happy with the bike. The suspension was perfect at first but as it broke in it became to plush and was packing in rollers. That should be easy to fix. Power wise, I like the NECJ needle but I feel like the bike signed off too early up top. I could pull 3rd in just about every corner but it fell off like it was 2nd. I think I'll try larger mains until it won't pull and go from there. I might need to bump the rear sprocket down a tooth or two.

Here are some shots:

Yup, coming from a yz 250 to my '13 250sx I thought it was signing off quite early in the rpm range. I went to a 172 main, put on a PC exhaust and the Suzuki needle. It feels crisp and much better on top.

At first, I played with the supplied ktm needles but it always had this minor 'choking' going on.

Go to a 14 tooth counter shaft sprocket and put a 175 main it. You'll definitely thank me later :-)

Would you recommend trying a 14 countershaft on a stock 250 or just the 300s?

Yes, you can definitely do it on your stock 250. I ran 14x48 on my 250 and loved it. It spreads everything out nicely and you're not feeling like you have to shift halfway through a turn. You'll definitely shift less times per lap and it will also give you a little bump on top too.

It is definitely is a night and day difference. I'm running 14x50 now as well and it feel it's the perfect ratio for my 300SX and the type of riding that I do. It may not be perfect for everyone but I love it.

Digger,

So you are running a 14/50 on your 300 and you ran a 14/48 on it when it was still a 250. Did you ever try any other 14T combos when your bike was still a 250? I have a 14/51 combo right now, but don't really like it. Thinking a 14/50 is a step in the right direction, but probably not enough. A 14/48 may be too much so I might give a 14/49 a try. What do you think?

Also, I would figure a 300 would pull a 14/48 better than a 250 could so I'm surprised you're still not running the 14/48 on your 300. Any reason why?

Thanks.

I ran 14X48 on my 250 for the final 4 races of 2012 and I really liked it. I still had the 50 lying around because I geared & jetted it based on MXA's specs when I got my 13 in the summer of 12. MXA's jetting specs were horrible and 13X50 that they recommended was way to tight and I was in 5th gear everywhere. I still had the 50 lying around so tried it the week after I put the 300 kit on it and I liked the zip it gave it so I left it on. 14X49 could definitely be the hot set up but I'm totally comfortable with the 14x50 that I'm running now. 14X48 could be the perfect offroad gearing but for MX (and that's all I do) I like the 14X50. It give the instant snap so I can clear a double that is right out of a turn without having to seat bounce it.
