I'm heading down to the LA area to go riding this weekend. I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. Which tracks would you guys recommend? I was thinking Perris and Cahuilla. I want to make sure I ride a track that is consistently prepped good as I've been riding crappy prepped tracks up here in the Central Valley. Thanks for your input.

I would recommend Perris and Milestone MX. A lot of people complain about Milestones main track being too difficult, but they have two other tracks to ride if that's the case. Also, they rip it DEEPand water it perfectly IMO. I've seen small kids disappear in the ruts on the main.

Forgot to add though, you need a membership for Milestone, but there is a free pass in last months transworldmx mag, near the back. Otherwise, it's like $25 PLUS $25 TO RIDE JUST AN FYI

I haven't been to Cahuilla for a while but everyone I've talked to says it pretty much sucks right now. I wouldn't waste my time. The next nearest track (other than Starwest) would be Milestone in Riverside. It's been pretty good lately. Competitive Edge and Racetown have been consistently good recently and would be worth driving the extra distance.

Glen Helen's main track will be open for practice this Sat. That's an option. You could always head to the Hi-desert and hit up Comp Edge and/or Racetown, both have been good lately.
Perris for sure IMO. Milestone...eh...I'm not too fond of it.

Right now is not the time for Cahuilla. Dec-April is Cahuilla's sweet time of the year.

I do recommend you make it to Perris for at least one of the stops that place is one of the best. Im not all that fond of milestone either. Comp edge is good as long as the wind isn't kickin like a hurricane which can never be predicted same for racetown since they are practically neighbors. Piru and I-5 are good too. Q247 is right on about Chauilla that place sucks until the winter comes.

I would recommend that since you are coming up to ride for a weekend that you avoid the "membership" tracks as you will be paying more than twice the gate fee just to ride one time.....those memberships are an absolute waste!

What don't you guys like about Milestone? When it comes to prep, I haven't seen a track even close, except Perris. Have you guys been in the last couple months, it's pretty fun.

I have heard good things about Racetown, but it's so far north, I never go.

That's the type of info I was looking for. Thanks for the tips about the tracks and the coupon. I feel like I haven't seen a decent rut or bump in a few months. The tracks up here are so hit and miss with their prep, and lately it's been miss. I'm assuming the hours are your basic 8-2 practice sessions. Sounds like I'll be skipping Cahuilla.

Lotta good things said about Racetown lately. Good high dez temperatures and the track maintenance has been said to have been stellar. Motoplex off the 14 has a new layout I hear if you like technical tracks. Racetown also has an Arenacross series going. Check the web for more info. I have only heard about it.

My .02 cents.

Glen Helen has been kind of weak lately, they shortend it up a bunch. I wasn't there last week, but the week before the track was short. Well for Glen Helen it was short.

Milestone? Membership price, and imo the manager is an ass. To bad because it is really close to my house and they have night riding. They are open all day though, not just 8-2.

Perris, haven't been in a while. Everyone always has good things to say about it though. It does get crowded on the weekends. Yeah, all tracks do I know, but the other tracks have other tracks to ride. Perris is pretty much just the one track.

Starwest? Membership again, and have heard it's back to sucking.

Elsinore? Membership again, and the place is a hole. Don't waste your time.

Comp Edge, has been stepping up on the prep. So that's a good option. Wind can be a pain. If it's not windy, the track is long ruts up good, and has some big table jumps. I think Comp closes early, maybe 2?

Racetown, nobody who has been there latley has had a bad thing to say about it. Again you can ride all day there too. Wind can be ify at Racetown as well.

Cahullia, unless your staying down close to there don't waste your time.

AMP is up by Racetown and Comp. Can't really comment on it cause I don't know anyone who still goes there.

Good luck!!!

Maybe check out Proride.com , those guys over there actually ride on a weekley basis. They also have links to all the tracks with phone numbers.

I have made my opinion clear at Glen Helen, yet it has gone through deaf ears.

They think the attendance is to low, to open up a longer track, I explained that the attendance is low, because of the shortened track.

A phone call to the recorded info line might help.

I am heading out Friday evening, and will once again bring it up. I know many people head to GH, for a long, MX loop. They have been really hit hard with water conservation. They're only allowed 5,000 per day. Which is very little.

I can assure you, they want riders there, and I will tell them of the complaints via the internet.

REM Saturday

National track practice Saturday until 2pm

SRA GP Sunday.

If it is a long loop you are looking for then look no further than SRA. We put down four-five miles of hills (St. Helen's, and Whitney) and some high speed straights, sand washes, jumps, and on time starting.

+40 guys race first

+30 guys an hour later

Still the least expensive race around !

Comp. Edge is open till 4. I've been there the last 3 or 4 Saturdays & it's been good. Going to Racetown this week though. I don't think the prep has been bad at all there this year. They change the layout a bit from time to time but the prep is consistently good. AMP is no longer open. Milestone...the last time I was there the corners were disced way too deep and over-watered. It was hard to even ride the main track and I was told that it has been that way for a while now. In my previous post I completely forgot about Glen Helen. I've only been there a few times for practice & I always feel like I'm just getting in the way of all the fast guys there.

Top of the list is REM which is the back track at Glen Helen. Long motos, flaggers positions evenly around the course add up to a true MX experience backed up by a well trained ambulance crew that is rarely pressed into action. There is a section coming out of the back for you guys who like to jump that is a major sky shot while most of us mere mortal elect to just jump and not go for what turns into a double.

If you want a perfectly groomed track with jump after jump after jump the go Perris.

If you want a nice facility with a wide variety of obstacles go Milestone.

Two cool things about REM though, 1) everybody and the industry races there, practice at 9, and most times we're done by 2:30. They have multiple gates per moto 2) They aren't that far from Chaparral and if you've never been there you have to check it out.

Glen Helen and Perris would be good choices.

I just raced Glen Helen yesterday and the track was fun and rough.

I'm trying to figure out whether I want to pick up a new 450 or 250. Probably depends on how much racing I plan on doing, but I'm leaning towards the 250. I did find a nice RM125 for cheap though to play around on.

Thanks for the info. I've raced there before, but I'm in no shape to go and try to run with Amaradio or Wilson for 20 minutes. Working my way back into race shape in the meantime. If any of you guys are going to be at Perris or Milestone, look for the number 15 kx250 or a numberless RM125 and come say hello. I may even get you a deal on some tear-offs.

I would have recommended REM, but I thought he wasn't looking to race, just to ride.
REM is one of the coolest places to race out here in SoCal. Like the Rock said, everybody in the industry is there, it is very laid back and just a fun natural terrain course.

I'll be at REM this weekend. If you do hit up REM, you could ride the GH main track for a session in the morning, then ride REM practice, the race REM, load up and hit Starwest, Milestone or any of the night tracks that evening.
