4.6 Intravenous Hydration
a. At no time during the event will a rider receive any type of
intravenous hydration unless such hydration is deemed
medically necessary by medical personnel as a result of an
emergency medical situation (e.g. heat stroke) encountered by
a rider, during, or as a result of competing in, an event,
practices, heat races or qualifying sessions that are part of an
event.
b. Once a rider receives such hydration during the meet, the rider
will not be permitted to compete in any further events at the
meet including, but not limited to, any further practice
sessions, heat races, qualifying sessions or final events
composing any event in the meet unless and until the rider is
released by the medical personnel who treats the rider for the
specific emergency medical situation at issue.

Am I the only one who thinks that last part means that the medical crew can let him ride even if he gets IV during the event?

Many people mistake a case of the flu with food poisoning, I'm always very skeptical of all the food poisoning claims that people have in general. There is a nasty strain of flu going on right now and with Josh Grant also being sick and also riding at RV's place I would think that a case of the flu is more probable.
Either way I hope both of them feel better and are able to race tonight.

Do you guys really think that JS and RD want to win the race (Championship) on a technicality?
As a racer, I would rather have my rivals on the track with doing everything I would do to get out there.
There is more honor beating someone who is trying everything they can, then just winning on a technicality.

First, I hope RV is OK. Second, IMO he shouldn't be riding tonight if he's had IV's today. JMO

Food poisoning can happen regardless of how healthy and controlled the diet. It doesn't necessarily mean the food is bad. It can come from cross contamination too. Someone with dirty hands, or RV having dirty hands when eating. So it doesn't always mean you get sick from the food. It could be a vehicle for other contaminants to get in your body. Someone could have gas/oil/grease on their hand, eat a perfectly healthy sandwich and end up sick.
*Just refering to the post questioning how he could possibly get food poisoning when they pay trainers to control their diet.

Oh man I did not even think about the puking aspect. I just assumed he would have the sh1ts. That would definitely not work out.

Spewing in the whoops would be bad.

Dam I hope he gets his sh1t together before the main... No pun intended.

How did you get that from what I said? You'd be surprised how easily cross contamination can happen. What someone can touch something, someone else touches that and something else that RV picks up, RV doesn't wash hands properly, and there you go.

Here we go again, my take as a racer in the AM AMA for 30 years (take it for what you want) Is he shoud not race as he had a needle in his arm!!! In a race situation H2o is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more important than any other thing inculding PEDs. Fast finnish, no race. And Poto is one of my riders, hate to see him loose some respect here.

You also realize that by that wording, any doctor can administer and clear a rider.

So if I SAY I have the shits, cramps and vomiting, and my best bud, Dr Greg, agrees, and gives me an IV between motos or heats, and then clears me, I'm good to go.

It doesn't specify "race medical personnel" but only says "the medical personnel who treats the rider for the
specific emergency medical situation at issue."

So, I bring my own doctor, or PA or even nurse, and receive treatment and then cleared by my own medical staff, I can bypass that rule entirely

Think that's within the spirit of the rule?

All a team has to do now, is have it's own staff physician or "medical personnel" and a rider can take an IV at any time

Right?

Or just close the door on the motorhome and jack whatever you want into your veins. These rules are futile and everyone knows it.

You get an IV to REPLENISH fluids. Why would that be an infair advantage before the race?

This wording "any further events" implies that the rider has already competed in one event at least...practice...equals...motos etc.

Uncle, sorry , yes I wish no harm or ill towards Ryan and hope he makes a speedy recovery.

I'm just curious to how the rules will be administered because in my opinion any rider getting an IV during the day of the event is not eligible to compete.
