I am restoring my uncle's 1971 Honda SL125 and the gas tank and cap were completely rusted throughout. I found a tank and cap from a 1972 model and after receiving in the mail noticed there was a heavy layer of rust inside the tank. What is the most effective way of removing the rust completely and sealing for protection?
When a sealer starts to turn loose in a tank, it's a real pain to get it clean again.
As far as the tank coating....I used some marine fuel tank coating many years ago on a street bikes fuel tank. I don't remember what it was called, but I did get it at a local boat shop in Houston. The stuff is still in that tank today. The rest of the bike is not good now, but the tank is just like when I finished it.

Good idea to count the number of screws you put in, just to make sure you get them all back out
