Is that what came off Stews bike? Alessi's handle bar ripped it out? Freak luck...

90% sure it was possibly a heat or clamp that holds the silencer to the header. I think it tore a hole though.

Not 100% sure, but from what I gathered the header got ripped off? If the bolts broke off you gotta get those out which is a fuckin' chore in itself. Impressive work by the mechanics no doubt. Maybe it didn't come completely off? Weird deal for sure. Bummer for him.

EDIT: Others beat me to it. So it wasn't completely torn off?

It may have been dented or maybe it pulled loose where the header bolts onto the cylinder or at the rear joint. Whatever it was the pipe was still on the bike when he pulled into the pits.

I think it was the clamp, headers aren't usually that fragile but maybe the factory ones are thinner.

thats not js7's right? how would hitting handlebars cause that dent and what went flyin.
I guess it was the noise reduction chamber.

You sure it didn't tag also a radiator hose or water pump? Check these.

CSI Daytona- The thing that flew off looked like Alessi's front brake master cylinder still attached to brake-line. That picture above is the brand shiny new header they put on after pulling the dented one (in DV's pict) off.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but what is that yellow stuff on the dented header? Melted plastic from the front fender? Traction Control Modulator melting from inside the header? Fiberglass from the silencer restriction baffle inductor?

Also, why couldn't James ride it with a dented header? I know a guy (actually quite a few) that ride their bikes without silencers, no packing, and in some cases a huge hole in the header and they go around the track just fine for months.

Do you understand flow & scavenge? Figure the diameter of that header pipe, then figure the volume of restriction that dent creates. Now do the math on how that can affect back pressure, cylinder load ability on intake stroke and stoichiometric combustion.

Not only does the header have a dent, but I see no rear brake lever...

It is not a dumb question. It is obviously the melted and burned flesh of the heroic mechanic who sacrificed himself and changed that hot exhaust header like a man with his bare hands.

I was being ironic about the bike running right with a smashed pipe fellas. You guys are super gullible.

So it appears to me they did a header pipe swap.
