If they all started offering the FE bikes it would drive the prices even higher than they already are.

10K for an orange frame and some sweet frame guards??? Ill pass.

The FE concept would be cool if they actually added some stuff that made the bike faster, not just look better.

And 99% of the dudes that buy them can't ride the stock KTM 450 to is full potential anyway.
The bike comes with a lot more than just an orange frame and guards, that's kinda ignorant. If you buy a new bike and throw a exhaust on it, your at about the same price. My bike came with different mapping and a Akro exhaust (stock) which makes more power and makes it go a little faster Jus saying haters gonna hate.

I came off a 11 kx450 and have ridden the 12 kx, and although they are good bikes, I felt way better on the ktm. A few years ago I would not have givens he ktm a second look, but after riding my friends 12 dungey, I sold the kx and bought a ktm within the month. The suspension is not that bad stock. Yeah it could be better buts it's def. good. Not all ride at a pro level. .

the bike is fully homologated.

...which means it meets all production requirements.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the last bike to pull that card was the 1997 YZM-400F.

i have a 12 kawy 450 w full fmf rct 4.1 megabomb, rode my buddies 13 ktm 450, both great bikes, engine in kawy is way stronger imo. but the ktm is easier to ride.

My point is, KTM keeps producing and racing a bike that no one else has access to. It may be homologated, but if it's sitting in a shipping crate at the docks and not being sold until the season is over then what good is the production rule?

Didn't Langston wrap up the 450 outdoors on a next years model YZF? I just think it sucks that the brain dead fuckers that are the AMA put a production rule (which is stupid on its own) in place yet continue to allow the factories to run stuff that is unavailable to every other racer. KTM has gotten to race "next years bike" how many times?

Ha! "Dungey and the Whoops"- it could be a band!
I won't disagree, BUT Roczen and Dungey made it through the whoops with Reed right in the middle of them. One would have to think they were all riding the same pace. Reed tried to step it up for a pass and almost died. That crash looked double nasty. Hard to believe he's going to line up this weekend.

RV wrapped up the 2011 450 National title on the 2012 KX450F as well. He rode the 2012 for the last 4 nationals in 2011.

Ha ha, yes the silencer was ridiculous. Why does a moto silencer need a sparky? Plus an extra spark arrestor insert?

Where'd you get the graphics and what did they cost you?

I'm running a Factory Services motor with an FMF Mega-Bomb 4.1 RCT. It's just a little bit louder than the Akro with A LOT for Bottom to Mid "Pull" ('13.5 FE).

I am pretty much a Kawasaki guy that bleeds green and the 2014 KX450f is such a sweet bike, but, I really am being pulled in the KTM direction and your photo isnt helping the situation out.

I really like the steel frame vs the aluminum and the FE with the orange frame is sweet looking!

Then again I cant believe i am even considering a 4 stroke.... I may cross to the dark side pretty soon!!!!

I did a bunch of research before I picked up the pipe. I went with FMF Ti header that weighs a pound less than the stainless FMF header. The silencer is easily 2lbs lighter than the Akra version. Maybe once you remove the cone baffle/spark arrester they are closer to the same weight.

As for sound, everyone likes to toot their own horn, but I have literally had half a dozen people come up to me at the track and say the bike sounds better than most bikes they have heard. Like the air fuel mixture is perfect or it sounds like it makes tons of power. Not sure how you can get that from the sound but...It is slightly louder than the Akra without the quiet insert.

If you haven't already, consider going with a 13/51 sprocket setup to help the stagnant bottom end. This is what Dungey runs and it makes a world of a difference. The pipe also helped with the bottom end.

The smaller Shorai will also save you two pounds.

I came off a '13 KX. The forks were much more plush on high-speed stuff, the bottom end was slightly better and thats it. The fit and finish on the KTM, the heim joints, the massive wheel hubs, braided lines, galfer oversized waved rotors, hydraulic clutch, brembo brakes, excel rims, etc..I could go on forever. All I can tell you is, I was smiling uncontrollably on the first ride of the ktm. I laughed at the thought of wanting an electric start....that shit alone is absolutely amazing.

My KX>

I'm on the Fence...

I rode my KXF last-week and I was a bit faster on it; but, got a bit more "Beat-Up" on it. I do like the Ergo's better on it.

My SXF truly is EASIER to Ride...and to Ride...LONGER. It takes MORE Effort to Jump & it takes a little more effort to put into Tighter-Turns/Tight-Inside-Lines. It IS More "Stable" and you have to have done something Really WRONG to get it to shake-it's-head like a Kawi. The SXF is The SAND-KING, too! As you said, the "Hardware" on the KTM is a Game-Changer and it flies in the face of the Throw-Away crap that comes on our Japanese bikes...Chain, Sprockets, Brake-Rotors (Honda's frt rotor is embarrassing!)...etc.

On the Other-Hand: The KTM has crappy-assed Malaysian Rims that don't seem to last as long as some of the rims that come on the Japanese bikes.

The "Button" is Really, Really, Really...NICE.

I need the KTM to feel a little bit more like my KXF. Especially entering turns & in the air.

Comparing a FE version with the usual 450 is not really fair. Mr team green, the new FE has different geometry, suspension, frame etc. Plus real excels. Its going to feel diferent, maybee you might be faster on it than your kxf?

Thanks for the info i really appreciate it guys!!

I figured as much on everything you guys are saying regarding the KTM, and i would want to spurge on the FE for sure!

I went into the local Kawasaki shop here in reno and they had 14's marked down to 7699 and said he would work with me since I am in the military. I might have to stop by KTM next week and see if they can make me an offer i cant refuse! Wink
