I'm not buying the "anything for TV" angle. They could probably get the ironman from Hawaii done in three hours for live tv. All they have to do is shorten it. I don't think that's going to happen.

Daytona was our ironman.

But doesn't Feld pay for the TV package? They buy the time and sell the ads, right? Doesn't that make it their call to decide program times?

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, I just don't know the vagaries of TV production like you do.

Speed ran races as long as it took for them to finish. If this year race will be longer than 3 hours I won`t be surprised if they just switch it to some ballgame in a middle of 450 main event when Stewart is about to pass RV for lead.Whistling

I think we should go back and give Chad his trophy.

If that's the case then there is plenty more of shoulda coulda woulda trophies to be handed out.

Dungey, Metcalfe, Seely, Wilson, ..... the list is long.

I completely understand that...which is part of my point. Obviously I should have said "people" instead of "you" in my post because that's what bothers me the most about a great deal of fans. They think everything is the end of the world and get worked about things like delayed race coverage. I get that's not you, because it's not me either. Shall we figuratively shake hands now because I tend to like what you have to say on here

Like DC pointed out, hopefully RC/Bomber took the shorter laps into consideration and made what they do have tough enough to truly challenge the racers. Personally I think they outta bring Hillbilly into the mix and use some of his ideas. Wink
What? A shine lap? You have to pitstop and drink a jar before returning to the track?

I appreciate DC's attempt to explain, but that explanation makes no sense to me.

They could trim the flashbacks and corny segments!

Agreed, those replays right in the middle of the race are aggravating to me. Show those replays after the race !

Lap times didn't matter before? Than why all the 45 second lap times before this year? Those were always blamed on TV and SPEED.

I know the powers probably want us to shut up and take what we get but I feel its always important to questions those powers. If left unchallenged or unquestioned, bad things happen more frequently.

Also think this is the kind of news that should be reported by the MX media like the Racer X website.

Yep, and one guy has won it 3 out of the last 4 years. I wasn't sure how they were going to make Daytona easier so now I
know. Daytona used to be the SX race that separated the elite from the good. Daytona, just another 20 minute or less race
on the SX schedule, who would of thought. Maybe we should start a new saying " the championship doesn't get started until
Indianapolis".Sad

Absolutely, the race would have been over 10 minutes earlier. Someone mentioned, what if it rained, maybe they will put up
a big tent over the smaller track to make sure that doesn't happen. How fitting would that be.
That year (2008) they shortened the main to 12 laps due to the monsoon conditions that resulted in lap times so long the bikes likely would not have finished the race if they tried to go 20. Reeds bike only made it 11 laps.

I don't like the idea of making Daytona shorter/easier so hoprfully when RC's was quoted as saying lap times closer to 1:00 we get 1:05-1:10 when it gets rough and slows the guys down.

No kidding.

Could it have somethibg to do with TV? Sure. Could it also have to do with the amatuer race in the days after? That'd be my guess.

I realize there is a slight (lol) difference in the two events but is this not being produced and broadcasted by the same network that just devoted 10-11 hrs of programming to make sure we all got to see the Daytona 500 come to it's conclusion?

What do we expect? Its supercross. Tradition is not part of the future of this sport. Motocross included. Bring on straight line rhythm.

It's time to coin a new phrase. VicDaMoaning.

Example: That guy sure is VicDaMoaning a lot.

I was watching some AX race last week that switched to the start of a basketball game during the middle of a heat race. Total WTF moment. The race came back on after a few minutes though like nothing happened.

We trust your working on it DC, but, And I am probably the minority so my voice loses, but I would rather watch Daytona (or any other race) on delay than to cut the traditions of the race. Daytona "IS" 1:30 lap times. It is "rough", it is not like any other SX. I would rather keep that than have live TV.

When you all ask for 'progress' [growth] this is part of what you get.

Daytona 2020……?
