Mike Alessi doesn't deserve this...

No motocross racer deserves this kind of terrible insult and hatred, but he's getting messages like this -- scores of them. Go read them on his Twitter and Instagram.

Alessi knocked Broc Tickle down in what Mike has admitted was a very bad move that he made in the heat of the race. He apologized profusely, he was fined heavily, he apologized again and took his medicine from the critics and callers on Matthes' show. What more does he have to do here?

I know there's been a lot of drama and nonsense and straight-up mistakes from those around him over the years, but Mike is a professional racer who has to go back out there on Saturday and do his best for his team and the fans, whether you cheer for him or not. No one condones what he did in Atlanta, but strangers act like he somehow directly hurt them. Only Broc should have that outrage, and he's behaved like a true professional and risen above all of this.

People need to let Mike Alessi move on and race and live his life without worrying about death threats or people wishing him such horrific things. Sorry, but this has gotten way out of hand.

This is my first post, but yours has encouraged me to move from the side lines. While I agree with yours (and guyB's) opinions that the internet is not a free for all, and people should consider the repercussions of their actions, consider this:

From MA's perspective
MA does something stupid --> the "internet" responds with intense and spiteful messages against him, most likely for a short period of time until some other 'hot topic' comes along

Consequence --> MA feels a bit stink every time he reads something, or heaven forbid, he just doesn't look. Yes, we should also include that there is also the possibility that some loon will take matters into their own hands (in real life)

From Broc's persepective
MA does something stupid --> BT gets thrown from his bike with quite some force and hits the ground

Consequence (actual) --> hits the ground pretty hard, is out of the race/ looses positions etc.

Consequence (potential) --> broken legs, spinal injury, paralysed, brain injury, dead

So consider this, what if Broc was paralysed, or died? Only a matter of chance could separate walking away and dying. If brock was paralysed, do you think the reaction to mike was out of proportion?

If this happened on the street, MA could quite possibly be charged with using a vehicle as a weapon, or if he injured/killed brock, manslaughter or murder.

MA had every action in his control and CHOSE to do what he did. Who cares how a few keyboard warriors feel about him, he has not paid his dues, he should not be allowed to move on. the AMA should ban him for life. Moto is dangerous enough as it is and actions like that or jeffs laser can kill people.

I don't think it is right to be worrying about how MA feels about getting death threats, the other 21 riders who line up at the gate shouldn't have to worry that someone will try and kill them either.

How about post number 2 you can analyze a few other things for me when u have a minute.

The Saddleback massacre when one the sports all time heroes used his bike as a ramming rod on Kent Howerton and said after the race he was trying to break his legs. Possibly one of the greatest duels in the history of the sport which made the cover of the premier moto mag at the time.

An incident on Unadilla a few years back when a totally out of control Stewart took out the greatest rider the sport has ever known and could have ended both of their careers at that instant due to the speed and jump they were on.

Last one happened just two weeks ago when a rider with the nickname of Bambam because of his aggressive style of smashing into other riders, came within inches....if that.....look at some photos and you will see an inch if your lucky between the tires. He came real close to possibly ending Roczens career for no other reason than he was being a asshole after making a pass.

This is moto....shit happens. Alessi deserved a fraction of the backlash he received from this

Wow. That's a tough post to follow, but here it goes...

Dear dc and ma,
Im pretty sure you'll never read this, but welcome back to the real world. This is the real shit us fans deal with every time they go to a race, obsessed fans. These people are on the ineternet and in the stands. Dudes laying asphalt and concrete all day. People out here are passionate about this stuff, following this sport is all some people have. According to internet sources, mike alessi is worth at least 3 mil and dc is likely worth 2 times that. Maybe what they are trying to say is, I am jealous of what you have, be thankfull of this amazing career and be a better ambassador of this sport I love. Maybe that, and a good wheelchair story.

Shit happens.... ?

you have just quoted three examples of guys being idiots/assholes.

I presume you consider all three to be unacceptable? Maybe you don't...

Yes shit does happen; as would be the case if someone panic revved and t-boned into you. That is a risk all riders have to and do accept when they turn up to the gate/track

Someone purposefully trying to hurt you/or worse should never be classed as shit happens. The fact that the three examples you mentioned above didn't have consequences and/or were glorified by the media is completely unacceptable

Everyone should have the right to ride with the understanding that someone won't decide to attempt to kill them. If you think anything else then you have a far worse attitude than a bunch of keyboard warriors calling MA names.

The Bob Hannah incident is the best example you can make, and I agree with a lot of what you are saying.

However you keep bringing up incidents where lines came together (in most peoples eyes). In this instance most people feel it was on purpose similar to the Hannah and maybe the Barcia incident.

Your examples should focus on incidents that most people consider on purpose.

The history of the sport is filled with examples of where it was done purposefully. You are correct, on the list it was 2 out if 3 .

I believe DC's point is MA does not deserve death threats or bodily harm threats over this. It happened in a split second on the track and was not planned, accidental or on purpose. In racing not everything always goes as planned. Try riding a monster of a bike like they do n a track more suited for 80's and see how you hold it together week in and week out. He made a mistake, like many other great riders have in the past.....other than Stewart, because he is the most hated rider in history by the idiots in the stands I don't believe there were any death threats .

I'm totally against the whole wishing paralysis on the guy, but I don't think the fine was enough for how stupid a move it was. He's not an amateur with arm pump. He's a pro who puts the bike where he wants it. Should have had a race or two off to think about it.

As much as I agree with you DC that no-one deserves this, what if Tickle would have landed on his head and paralyzed himself. NO-ONE deserves that. And as much I think the guy who posted that is a raging idiot. Something has to be done about that family and the stunts they pull. This is nothing new, they have been pulling this shit since his amateur days and nothing is stopping them.

Ask a paralyzed tickle if $4000 fine is worth it. The system is becoming a joke and riders are finding it out and they are doing whatever they want. Barcia should have been penalized heavily for whipping into Kenny's frnt wheel and Alessi should have been DQed for the year simple as that. We can talk all BS all you want, simple fact is these riders are not taking the rules seriously and until heavy punishment is given, they never will.

My point is that DC has asked Mike to be cut some slack....

His actions could have paralysed Broc, something he and his loved ones would have had to have lived with FOREVER

I think ALL riders should be held accountable for their actions. Yes, only MA will know how purposeful his actions actually were, but common consensus appears to be that he grabbed some throttle and went for it.

I think the focus should be on how his decision could have ruined Brocs life and he should be punished by the AMA accordingly - i.e. life ban.

This is what I believe DC should be worrying about, not the keyboard warriors, who will really only make Mikes life unconfortable for another couple of weeks

I'm not sure posting about what other people have done wrong in races is a great defense of MA recent rather poor on track decision. It's as simplistic as two wrongs don't make a right…….

Do you think the fine would have been the same if there had been injuries involved? I don't, but I obviously don't speak for the AMA, either.

Bob Hannah was always good for a colorful story. I buy that he was aiming for Howerton's legs as much as I believe Marty Tripes was looking for a log in the river while towing Bob behind his ski boat.

Yes you do?

at the risk of sounding extreme....

Someone points a gun at you, pulls the trigger and misses by the width of a hair. No harm no foul right?

We're talking about Supercross racing. When was the last time someone pulled out a gun and fired at the track?

I'm not talking about me Guyb - I have no reason to fire at the track.

Yes, we are talking about supercross racing but a 70 - 80kg rider on a 90kg bike at speed has a lot of force and momentum. Piloted incorrectly and/or purposefully maliciously, it might as well be weapon as the consequences are the same.

Once again, my point is that Mikes actions could have had extremely serious consequences so why are we worrying about how he feels and not what could have happened to Broc?

If Broc had left the stadium paralysed on a stretcher, no one would be worrying about what is being said about Mike, and I would like to hope he wouldn't be allowed to race again.

Your hypothetical is a good example of the different penalties imposed based on outcome.

Firing a gun at someone and missing is Assualt with a deadly weapon - can range from a misdemeanor to 4 years excluding enhancements.
Murder: 15 years to Life or greater depending on degree.

Something to consider as you analyze the penalty and fine received by Alessi.

Couple questions...

1. Why isn't there a 4 page thread every time people put horrible stuff on Js7's instagram and twitter and facebook...? i read it everyday...

2. Why do ANY of these pros even allow comments on their social media...I just pray none of them have time to read the peanut gallery? GuyB do they actually read all the garbage in their comments?

3. Alessi is a big boy, needs to block this dude on all social media, and so should the rest of us, he is clearly so pathetic inside that he feels the need to be uncivilized...

...final note: i strongly dislike Alessi as a RIDER...and as a COMPETITOR...but I can't say I know him as a HUMAN so I dare not comment...keep it to moto...don't get personal...my rule...

Bob Hannah was always good for a colorful story. I buy that he was aiming for Howerton's legs as much as I believe Marty Tripes was looking for a log in the river while towing Bob behind his ski boat.
The fine/punishment should fit the crime, not the end result. You get charge with what crime you committed not the result of the crime.

As much as I liked Hannah's statement and don't like it at the same time, comparing those times with these is not the same. The speeds where much slower, the jumps far less technical. Tickle is setting up for an obstacle that he has to commit to unlike anything back in Hannahs day, and gets torpedoed by an idiot.

We keep blowing smoke all over the place, but there is not excuse for this. He should be punished for the crime, severely and not for the result.

this is such a lame attempt to justify...nice try...800 ever been on a bike before...you can talk all you want about hitting tough blocks, power-sliding, and panic revving, but the bottom line is the release of the clutch at just the right time...

and the guy that looks like a marine with his shirt off doesn't just 'slip' off the clutch going 5 mph...

sorry, he did it on purpose...ask ivan tedesco at glen helen...a few years ago...or ask jeff alessi about lazergate...always an excuse from the family and their followers...never taking responsibility...a microcosm of our inherently entitled and over-privileged societal momentum...

i just blacked out, what happened...

This sport doesn't exactly attract intelligent beings, does it?
100% agree with you, looks like a pretty clueless individual.

DC : What fine would you have handed out ?
