So, a detective needs information on how to do a basic job? Really now.... Why would you post on a forum for one, did you not enter the stolen VIN/Serials into the database? Have you not called around the local pawn shops? Issued a thorough search of your local areas craigslist?

I mean, I am no detective but my guess is neither are you. None of this adds up, never in my (56) years on this green earth have I ever seen an actual member of law enforcement come to a forum and ask for "suggestions"...
Seriously Jaycarpent? You sound like a jerk.

This guy came on the board with VIN numbers and details and is just trying to do his job - and you post this drivel?

Having been a victim of theft before myself with two bikes, and been assigned a lazy detective that could not be bothered to even come out to file a report, even though his station was 2.1 miles away, I think you should give this guy the benefit of the doubt.

A quick google search, a few models name and VIN numbers and a massive public forum like Vital, and some of these might just turn up one of these days down the road. Maybe so, maybe not, but credit to this guy for trying.

Perhaps you should take your 56 years of whatever you have and hit the mountains above Boulder and stay away from the keyboard...

The motorcycle world is small, and unless they got loaded onto a container and sent overseas to Nigeria, there is a good chance these will pop up, having an archived search here on Vital will only help recover them.

Thanks guys for passing it on. I'm also open to any other suggestions anyone may have as to unconventional means of getting rid of the goods.

JayCarpent...you are a real chop.

Lets say it was your bike or bikes that were stolen, you would post it here as quickly as you can...calling for any assistance.

So short sighted you are....

Well, someone had to say it... Smile

How many people have come in here and asked, "Does this deal sound too good to be true?" Maybe they can find their answer, and help bust some knuckleheads in the process.

Not to mention the folks that run the dealership and try to make a living off selling motorcycles.

Anyone know what it feels like after you have been robbed?

Yea, it sucks.

For what it’s worth, I’m skeptical about the “still in crates” rumor. I’m pretty sure I saw all those bikes on the retail floor a few weeks ago when I was in to have work done on my bike. Maybe dan586 can confirm and provide some more details.

JayCarpent, a smart investigator utilizes any resource available to him, including the networks of people on the internet. What better segment of society to make aware of the crime than the target most likely to be the recipient of the goods? Between this forum and others I have posted to, hundreds were made aware. The use of this forum may seem unusual, but I just thought I would utilize every means at my disposal to try to help the owners of the business. I have met them in the past, and found them to be very courteous. All the basic investigative avenues are of course being utilized, including entering the items into NCIC.

My reference to being open to suggestions was due to the fact that on another forum, a member pointed me towards flattrack and ATV forums, citing the potential for engine swaps, which I honestly had not thought of. You don't know what you don't know. I am just a regular guy trying to help a local victim, and to hopefully recover the property before some other poor individual winds up buying stolen goods. So no sir, I do not need your help in the basics of investigations, but I would ask for any help in passing the word along.
Dan I am so happy to see a law enforcement official making an effort the way you are. Most of the time you hear of situations like this happening, and the victim receiving practically no help from local pd and or investigators... Thanks for your effort

I'll keep an eye out up north here in NH, but I doubt they would travel this far.

Good luck

Thank you Dan for taking your job as a detective seriously and trying every method possible to recover the stolen property.

As for Jay, I hope when something of yours is stolen some lazy cop is sent your way to 'take a report'. Maybe, later that day the same cop can pop you for doing 8 over and failing to completely stop at a 4 way!!

I wanted to follow up and say thank you to the forum members for spreading the news. So far as the incident itself, I can give a bit more information. For the sake of full disclosure, I am not the case officer. This incident is assigned to one of my partners. I am assisting him in the matter.

The fence of the business was cut, gaining access to the area where the stolen property had been stored. As someone mentioned earlier, the bikes were still crated. The bikes were apparently at least partially assembled, as the crating was separated from the bikes and left at the scene. That is all I have for you currently.

Unfortunately if that is a real photo it is a 2013 model. The 2014 models have different design on the airbox covers and there is white accents on the graphics.

Alright so these bikes weren't insured from a dealer? They're gone. You'll never see them again. Give up on these like detectives give up on privately owned motorcycles. Off the showroom floor. Atleast the shop will get the full amount of the bikes as they're brand new. Not the depreciated value the insurance company goes by.

Hi, I am a Detective with the Iredell County Sheriffs Office in Statesville NC. This is a heads up for everyone, and a request for any assistance. On the evening of Wednesday, February 19th 2014, unknown suspect(s) stole the following 2014 model year bikes from Carolina KTM of Mooresville, NC.

200 XCW - last six of VIN 111263, last six of motor serial 436758

250 SX - last six of VIN 210588, last six of motor serial 859016

300 XCW - last six of VIN 342806, last six of motor serial 959405

350 XCFW - last six of VIN 211338, last six of motor serial 550993

690 Enduro - last six of VIN 761749, last six of motor serial 36401

690 Duke - last six of VIN 761203, last six of motor serial 011728

These bikes are new. If you come across anyone attempting to sell similar bikes, and you are inclined to think that things may be suspicious, please feel free to forward any information to me here on this forum.
This type of crime hurts not only the original victim, but potentially anyone who may later unwittingly buy a stolen bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As a dealer I have had this happen 3 times. It is just miserable................

I commend any and all methods law enforcement uses to track these things down. In my case the police did very little and left us to do some searching on our own.

Although my situation is one isolated circumstance, I would guess that the theives had a good plan and a waiting buyer that has/will export these units to a different country. The fact that they were crated makes that even easier.

There is very little chance that they will be used or sold locally.

Best wishes to the dealer as he will have a significant probing by his insurance carrier. Not fun !!!

I think it's a great idea for him to ask here for help/insight. I am a beat cop and have had a few other agencies contact me about stolen bikes. To most of us on here moto is a HUGE part of our lives, the rest of the world has no idea how much of a family most of us can be to one another. If he posted the last 6 it's a safe bet all the VINs have been entered into LEADS. One detective thought he had a factory race bike b/c it had an old school YOT graphics kit and an ORV sticker from cali. We all need help at some time, glad he has checked the ego and asked!

Its 2014 and a KTM dealer dealing with new inventory does not have ANY security system? Closed Caption Cameras? Why were new bikes stored outside?

Cost at least on the east coast most ktm dealers are independent s not part off a multi line dealership , most company's don't have a burglar alarm outside its a false alarm nightmare , I will bet you the ins company requires it now . Even if he did have it they could off had masks on anyways and covered up plates . I am is low voltage business owner see it everyday .

Just some observations. . . There are two helmets on the wall, a dirt bike stand with dirt on it and another bike in the background that has hand guards on it like it's been ridden. The dude obviously rides. I wouldn't consider this AS suspicious as some are suggesting but there is definitely as much of a possibility it's hot like any other bike on CL.

I used to work at KTM shop in Daytona Beach. Some theives stole a KX 85 from another shop a few miles away that was sitting outside on display. These geniuses filled it with pump gas and immediately seized it. The next day they rolled it into my dealership for service. I called the dealer down the road to check the vin #s on the engine case (because the frame #s were gone) and confirmed it was the missing bike. We called the customer the following day and said the bike was ready for pick up. When they arrived (and paid), there were 3 DBPD officers waiting for them in service.

That a boy ! As a person that has been poached a couple off times it's great to hear when some one gets bagged ! I would bet if they didn't get shipped out off the country they are probably pretty close to that shop , and it's a four stroke so u know they will be getting serviced soon
