I re-read that RC interview from RacerX just hours before A2 got underway..... He made comments about both Reed and Stewart not being able to come up through the pack and not make the podium .. Well A1 we saw Stewart come from pretty far back to the front (sure he crashed but still came through the pack) and again this week we saw Reed this time hang in there from about 6th to capture the win while the "Ryans" took turns hitting the deck....Then as soon as Reed wins A2, RC is all about how dangerous Reed is now with a victory this early and all that jazz about clickin' off wins.... Dude changes his opinion with the tides it seems..... carry on

Yeah, Ricky knows nothing about how to race and win, especially against guys he raced against every single week.
1/20/2014 10:12am
i was thinking about this the other day..but can you blame RC for feeling this way??

Guys like Dungey, Barcia, RV, and Tomac aren't exactly 10th place guys...

I think it's a sport's announcer thing. How many times do you hear commentators in any sports make a comment like that and then it turns out to not be the case. And RC had a point when he gave the interview. Reed and Stewart both had shown that they COULD come through the pack but just hadn't done it as readily as they used to. And he was right. So I don't think it's a foot in mouth. It was an observation more than it was a statement.

All I know is that they need to find a new word besides adversity when talking to healed up riders. Quite annoying...

Disclaimer: haven't been able to watch any races yet this year so I don't know if it is still the word du jour.

I think his point was that up to that point, they hadn't passed their way to the front & made it stick.

And, yes, that changed Saturday-Night...& I think James will continue to prove it.

I get the commentator "spin" and I know RC knows how to win races and ride a bike etc...he just seems to contradict himself a lot.. ...comes across sometimes a little too much like a know it all, like its a fact rather than his opinion.....then when something changes, he goes with that like he knew it would happen.... Don't get me wrong, He is the GOAT and he has a lot to offer as far as being a "racer"...no doubt...but just all over the place with his theories and it strikes me as odd.....meanwhile his guys are gettin' taken out by Dungey....talk about awkward booth moment....I think Emig may have chuckled a bit there...

"Are you freaking kidding me!?!? That's Tickle."

You could just hear the distaste in his voice when Tickle wrecked and then he had to be carted out. It's a little unorthodox having a teamowner in the booth but I like hearing him try to be non biased when he talks about his team. Hell, I'd prefer to have more teamowners in the booth or on the broadcasting team. Get Mitch mic'd up. I'd love to hear how many F bombs he drops during a race.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall last week when Hill didn't qualify. He did a pretty good job of defending Hill in the broadcast but I'd guess the tone was significantly different in the race rig.

Lastly, I hope RC lands a title contender next season. He's gone through the learning curve now and is ready to cater to a top guy. I'm a fan of RCH and JGR teams. They've both had some rough luck with the rider pics and haven't bowed out yet. Shows committment.

I mean....this is professional supercross. It's not like a ball and stick sport where if the leader falls..he is fouled. The game is stopped and the ball is given back to the fouled player....

You got so many variables, especially when there are 10-14 guys having lap times hundredTHs, off the winner.......you can't expect RC to predict winners. He can only call it as he sees it. And lately he has seen JS7 and CR not charge through the field and win.....except last night. So of course he's going to elaborate on that and say how CR can clip off wins if he rides that like the remainder of the year.....

I think RC was spot on. Reed and Stewart used to wipe the floor with everyone and now as veterans they need to have a bit of luck. I think that win by Reed might just make him the most dangerous guy to Villopoto. Rookie in the class like Roczen usually start strong, but slowly lose track with the top guys. Will be interesting to see how he does as the season rolls on.

He's entirely right. In the past, they could start dead last and finish on the box no problem. Now, that's not possible. Yeah, they can still podium from a mid-pack start, but it's a lot more difficult than before, and certainly not guaranteed. RC wasn't saying it was impossible for them anymore, just that it's not the norm.

Got to agree Here. I think 99% of us were wrong about Reed, it's not a respect thing, it's just how sports are it's constantly out with the old in with the New.

The next 2 races will let us know if Reed will be there at the end.

Both Reed and Stewart have had some bad injuries the past 3-4 years . . . easy to doubt their desire. Don't forget that Reed was clearly the fastest guy on the track outdoor when he cross rutted and chad-a-pulted into the air and he was WFO+ in SX when he broke his leg. Knarly injuries. Glad to see the old dogs back at the front of the pack keeping the young guns humble

Oh he knows how to win against them. Just not how to talk about it on TV.

Reed is what, 31? And Stewart 28 or so? Father time hawks everyone down eventually. I bet a 22 year old Bubba would be slicing through the pack pretty quickly.

I think it's pretty damn impressive what James and Chad are doing these days.

I wouldn't say he always defends his riders during the broadcast- I remember almost falling out of my chair last season when RC said "If he goes any slower in that corner, he is going to tip over" I was a little shocked that he said that, but I love RC in the booth, he usually adds a little comedy to the commentating!

There's only one commentator I'd consider to be on par with RC and his ability to pull from his own experiences to give us mere mortal fans some great insight on the race action... and that would be David Bailey.

Whether RC is predicting what part of the track a pass is going to occur on, or breaking down why a rider fell in the whoops...99 times out of 100, he hits the nail on the head.

When I read nit-picky BS posts like this, I can't help but wonder what kind of negative mind finds time to think this crap up when there have been so many positive things going on with the broadcasts this year.

you guys aren't really familiar with the modern sports reporting climate if you don't think ESPN talking heads make BOLD statements daily that they never have to back up

steven a smith, skip bayless etc etc.

666 backwards would still be 666. 999 is 666 upside down. Wink
