Hey guys this picture is of my bike. Cased a triple at the pala supercross track. Just didnt hit the corner fast enough and landed right on top. I don't know what the reasoning of this is but I have heard its been happening quite a bit. It has nothing to do with the torque of the pinch bolts or anything. I have heard the triple clamps may be a factor, but I am not sure. Both forks are busted and the clamps are really twisted. Happy I walked away without a scratch and nothing even tweaked or sore on my body. If anyone has any interest in helping so I can get to some rounds of east coast supercross Then feel free to contact me! Going to be really expensive!

If this were a problem on KTM's, there would be no mercy. Two of my friends just bought new Zooks...better tell them to stick to the turn track.....

Hey Manny, can you find this kid some 'zook forks?
1/15/2014 11:27pm

Forks don't break themselves. White line and black line should overlay each other. Something's bent to f(bleeeeep)k. Looks like a clamp fail to me. And I don't think over tightened pinch bolts make that clamp failure into fruition...

Suzuki should fix that. JS7 takes some nasty spills and his triple clamps don't bend........

That's a nice engineering diagram right there.

i agree the issue is happning where the steering steam presses into the lower clamp, its failing there causing the forks to buckle. with no support from the lower clamp thats like a 2.5ft lever arm to the top clamp

Bottom pinch bolts too loose? On one of them pictures the pinch bolts are undone..

Uppers and lowers are loose in that one pic. It's an old vintage trick, just rotate the forks 180 and they'll bend back the other way.Laughing

The forks would still be trapped in the clamp. To create a bend like in the pick, either the lower clamp twisted a bunch or the whole lower clamp twisted where it presses into the stem. If it is true that this isn't an isolated case, someone should run FEA on that before a rider ends up in a chair or dead.

More people run stock stuff than you would realize.

Even on Supercross tracks? I thought the triple clamps were changed out as one of the first things most people did for SX.

It all depends on rider preference and budget. I am on a very slim budget so I cannot afford aftermarket clamps. Especially since I really like the way the stock offset handles. I don't have the money to buy different offsets to test if I like anything better. But even some of the top guys are running stock clamps. Next supercross you go to, walk around the pits and look at the small details of the bikes. You will be surprised how many people are running oem parts where you would think it should be aftermarket.

When I read reviews on bikes, some reviews specifically say NOT to change the stock triple clamp (to an aftermarket clamp) as the off-set on the stock clamp is deemed the best because when the test riders did change clamps, they actually thought the bike handled worse than the stock configuration.......

You can buy aftermarket clamps that have the same offset as stock clamps and, hence, do not alter the handling of the bike.

Is it just me ,or is the centerline of the upper and lower clamp common to the steering stem off . The upper clamp is more forward than the lower just on the js pic. Inter tube failed????????

Right, i've always had faith in OEM triple clamps. I can't justify spending $400 for the same off-set for no noticeable difference........although if I had a suzuki I can definitely justify that expense just from the pics above alone......

I know a recent factory mechanic, swears by oem, says aftermarket just isn't the way to go. Most factory riders use 'whats good enough' to get the job done, it's worth the money. You have heard of where guys take less or no money to use the stuff they like. Or, they just put a sticker over the good stuff, so they still get paid by the not-so-good-stuff guys. Arai helmets, berik boots, back in the day, sinisalo gloves.
