It's a good thing he wins, because he'd be worthless to Kawi as a PR guy.

I got a buddy who is a Kawi dealer rep. He claims RV sucks at the PR / press the flesh type things. At this level it's part of the game.
If Kawi wanted someone to be a PR guy and not win (lol), they would hire Nick Wey

I find it strange that such minor comments would make someone dislike RV. I guess haters gonna hate and find anything to push them over the edge. It's sad that we live in a time where everyone has to be politically correct and pussy foot around their real feelings to appease the masses. I preferred it back in the day when all of the top dogs would say it like it was and talk some trash. Think about guys like Hannah, Johnson, Stanton, Bradshaw, Larocco, Emig, etc. They weren't about to talk nicey nicey about their competitors in an interview. They'd also come out and tell you if they thought a track was a piece of crap.

Sure they win, but their guy still comes across as a prick. And why, what does it prove? What does it bring to the table, for Kawi, for RV?

Look at KW. He made truck loads of cash without any 450 titles. All because he has people skills. People skills matter.

He obviously cares more about winning titles than being a celebrity. Good!

Clearly RV feels comfortable with Matthes and the dry sense of humor isn't working for people. He needs to stick to (not) thanking his sponsors to avoid offending the sensitive types.

I got a dry sense of humor. Trust me, it's a dangerous thing. Not many people get it. It has caused me lots of grief in my lifetime.

Years ago I watched JM interviews and thought about how likable the guy was. RV just doesn't give off the likable vibe, at least to me.

Of course people skills matter. And KW was/is the man. But you want to know what matters most? WINNING

No kidding. My wife still gets irritable at some of the things I say because she can't tell if I'm kidding or serious. I get his sense of humor. Hopefully he doesn't change it.

He may not ever have a "great" personality but he will always be funny.

See I used to find McGrath a little conceited in the 90's and for that reason never really warmed to the guy. But now Im older I recognise that as just being confident, and I think thats the same for RV now. Goes to show how perceptions can vary I guess.

I actually think the OP is wrong about RV's comments concerning Stewart during his Pulp interview, I thought RV was being genuine when he said that everyone was riding well. I didn't see it as a slur on James at all.

Sorry if this point has already been made... Didn't read much past the first six posts but.. You have to understand that RV has a smart ass sense of humor, he and Steve are constantly going back and fourth, they love it. Take it with a grain of salt, really we should be stoked we even get to see riders personalitys these days (with all the sponsor plugging they HAVE to do with any camera in their face). I'm the biggest of JS7's cock jockeys but am in no way put off by what RV poked at.

I'm so fuggin pumped that racing and drama is back BRO's!!

I could give a Rats Ass whether or not RV gives anybody a Big Sloppy Kiss when he meets them, I like watching him race the Shit out of a Dirt bike and fight for Championships, that's his Job. I've personally met him a couple times and he seems like a pretty nice guy, not the most talkative, but that's his personality. Bob Hannah had a reputation of not really being really a nice guy either, but he's one of the most respected and loved riders of all time. Personally I don't like seeing RV do good at Anaheim 1, it's good to see him make the adjustments he needs to make to his bike to get it dialed and then really pouring on the Heat by mid season, other wise it would be a pretty boring series. I'd put RV in the Top 5 of the greatest riders of all time and when it's all said and done, his legacy will be etched in stone as one of the most Bad Ass aggressive riders ever to sling a leg over a Dirt bike that didn't have a Bubbly Personality

Goat, the king, FMOTP,CR all came off as cocky one time or another. And some consistently. I think you have to be in order to dominate. If you don't believe it,your lost. A kid like DW, who I think is funny and personable comes off as cocky. To me, he's a bit early in his career to play that part.

Lets see... this is a super stressful time of year, Pre A1 activities - press conferences, sponsor obligations, press day, all the hype... so much to deal with both mentally and physically. A shit load to manage.

So think about this - RVs just finished his 20 laps and you want him to diplomatic A Game? Are your expectations to high?
Put your self in RV's shoes - the guy is a dirt bike racer not a diplomat. Cut him some slack!

Its amazing how fast RV is getting the RC treatment from some of you. Winning long enough will do that I guess. He's still the best on the track today until proven otherwise. A-1 almost never indicates the champ. Hell, RC never won the opener and RV crashed 30 times last year and wrapped up early. Just enjoy the talent and stop finding reasons to take things personally.

RV says it how it is. He doesn't sugar coat anything and does'nt kiss anyones ass. He is straight up. I also think he is a bit misunderstood. You hear him going back and forth with Matthes or whoever, and his sense of humor is a bit dry and I think people take that the wrong way sometimes.

Is he cocky and arrogant? Sure but you have to be to win the way he does. If he wasn't he would be a mid pack rider like everyone else. Its a mental edge and that can sometimes rub people the wrong way. I for one appreciate his approach to calling it as he sees it. Much in the way I love the way Reed says the things he does. Both of those dudes don't play games.

Allessi's meltdown on the podium was unreal. For the first few seconds I was in awe, like WTF is going on??? Then it got silly and they should have cut him off. Pathetic, dude is a grown man who won a heat race. Big deal!! He is (I use this term loosely) a professional who has won out door races. What a wuss.

So, it's a few minutes after the Main at A1; and, you just GAVE IT AWAY!
(Let's just say YOU are RV...for a moment, mmm'kay?)

You just threw away a solid win and YOU ARE PISSED!

You feel that you had the competition covered; yet, you didn't even make the F'n PODIUM...AND YOU ARE PISSED!

This shit IS YOUR LIFE and YOU TRAIN like a mad-man to retain a title...to stay ahead of the game...and YOU GIVE AWAY A WIN!? Oh, did I mention YOU ARE PISSED!?

Then, after you watch someone win "your" race. Take your Win...someone wants an interview and wants your thoughts on the guys that YOU GAVE THE RACE TO?

Oh, sure. I'd sit down over a nice cup of tea and be all smiles.

Seriously...sandy-vag-douches should go line up for someone-else's autograph.

But, that's just me.

think of it in the mindset that canard had on pourcel when he was running him down on the backend of the 250f nationals series.

pourcel wins dilla- and celebrates like a madman that he stemmed the tide against him

trey said (paraphrased of course)- it was at that moment that i knew i had him, the championship was mine.

---------------

The line dividing the best in the sport is super thin and outside of small mechanical advantages the best strength RV has is his absolute decimation of the morale of his competitors. To take his boot off their throat and acknowledge that they rode well or were better on any given day is to give them a fingerhold on catching him. It's just mental warfare.

I agree but I've never really liked RV, I take him as a guy who doesn't love the sport and is going to take his millions and run as soon as he can.
