Roczen 2015

Edited Date/Time 11/18/2013 5:06am
Wild ass speculation: Roczen doesn't sound super happy with KTM and has one more year on contract. Kawasaki can't be excited about Weimer's recent results. Villopoto is probably going to ride for a few more years. Aldon Baker is training Roczen and Villopoto this year. Wouldn't it make a lot of sense for Roczen to slide into Weimer's saddle at the end of 2014 to get ready to take the rein (or reign) from RV2 when he steps off?

Where is everybody seeing that Roczen is unhappy with the KTM? Links?
11/15/2013 8:18pm
He didnt race those races because he was doing boot camp...

Sure, and boot camp with Aldon will be good for him.

But Pit Beirer and the KTM brass did have a meeting with him because he was clearly not happy and they heard the rumors that he was leaving. Pit's response to the media is that they do have a contract this year. (This was recently discussed by Matthes and/or DMXS.) They got Roczen to quiet down, and he did look quite good at MEC. Still...just saying that all the pieces could be in place if he decided to leave KTM.

What about him on 22 motosports for 2015?

Before you plan on his leaving you might give him a chance in the 2014 season, if he does well then he would be happy and probably stay.

Depends on who's paying the bills. You know redbull is putting money down on Roczen. The question is would he make as much going to Kawasaki and monster? Because usually the second rider (Weimer in this case) rides for free with bonuses. If Roczen was riding free for KTM, redbull is a personal sponsor of his that is paying the bills. Would he be willing to lose redbull and money to be a second rider making half the money? If he even made half the money.

I agree, wrench.

It does seem though that there's a lot of discontent with KTM suspension. Dungey and Millsaps have also been frustrated by it, and of course there were the rumors that Davi was looking elsewhere too.

It is the same conversation of years past: strong motor, substandard suspension. But I'd never bet against The Man getting it figured out.

And I am not planning on his leaving-just wild ass speculation Smile

Yeah, I think that's key Renner. I could be wrong, but I thought RV2s contract is up in 2016 and the usual guess is he'd retire. If true, then there might just be one year of a big budget: something that might be necessary to lock him down. It would give everyone a year to work together and get used to the bike too.

But sure: the dollars are the bottom line. That would be a pricey year and who knows if it could be done.Someones gotta replace Villopoto though. Only so many riders if they want to keep on winning.

Hope you're healing up well!

Dude, could you be anymore right, in nearly every single post?

BTW, your brother on that 250SX is amazing to watch. Would he ever consider racing again?

Pulp last week cited some interview where Pit and Roger and Kenny had a big chat and they've worked on the bike etc... Suspension seems to be the hang up as it was in nationals, and maybe Dunge too...

I'm quite sure Davi has been saying "Chassis" too... Granted that includes suspension but I sometimes wonder with Davi being the manchild he is if he might be feeling a lot more flex than others? What are the rules around beefing a frame in the AMA?

Exactly, Crush. That's what got me to thinking about it.

Davi downplayed it on DMXS and pointed out that he didn't have time to test. But it sounds like he looked as did Roczen. And Dungey's struggles are famous at this point.

when kenny came home for the MXdN, he invited a german suspension guru (who did his suspension for many years when he was on suzukis) to his track and they were testing all week. He had suspension problems all year and was really unhappy, as KTM (RG3?) wasn't able to fix it.
Obviously they had success, as he was pretty happy at the MXdN. Rumour is, roczen also brought this guy to the US to set up his SX suspension

From what I understand (anybody correct me if I'm wrong) the frame you have to run has to be normal production of what they sell to the average joe buying a bike. That's why ktm came out with the factory edition (dungey replica). But i believe subframe a can be changed.

He seemed pretty happy early in the year when he was winning.

It's been said that practically every factory cheats on the production rule. Some a little...some a lot. I can't see why the frames on the KTM couldn't be tweaked a bit where necessary to strenthen or make them a bit less flexy for their factory guys (or guys like Millsaps. And, hasn't WP suspension setup...at least for US tracks, supercross in particular...been a freaking nightmare for years anyway?

Might be a dumb question but, is there anything preventing WP from reverse engineering Showa or KYB suspension other than pride?

Patents? Maybe small changes to make things slightly different?

The Rockstar team isn't teamed up with RG3 right? And they're using their own in house suspension guy.

They are allowed to gusset the frames (eg, make them stiffer), but they can't modify the original geometry, or remove material.

Thanks for the clarification boys...

Outsider, I don't think there is no, but you are talking about a company that insisted on running a PDS for years despite multiple riders telling them it didn't work as good. KTM owns WP and will push them as long as they can.

Although they've made huge strides, most people still say they're not as good as some of the other stuff available, works stuff would be different again, who knows what they've got in there!

I do know i'm looking forward to seeing the difference from my old 300 to my new 350SXF! Smile Woo!
