Hey guys, I'll be getting my new KTM in the next couple months and wanted to see if any of the Vitards have had a late model KTM and could lend any insight into what they need to really work (engine/suspension). I'll set the squish and clean up the intake ports but other than that what have you guys done?
the engine doesnt either, just throw whatever PV spring you prefer soft/medium/hard
and then ride it
then you gotta rrevv that sucker, you gotta revvv that sucker right over that triple jump

Ive got '13 150sx and 250sx. These were my first KTMs ever, and I am coming from 2009 YZFs. Both KTM motors are perfect, and I was pleasantly surprised with the WP setups as well (I was expecting something worse than my YZF SSS with all the bad press the WP stuff gets, but I actually feel better with the 13 WP stuff than the 09 YZ SSS stuff when both were setup correctly).
The only thing that Ive changed on both bikes, is for comfort/ergos. Im only 170lbs, but a tall 6'3" and felt more cramped on the KTMs than any bike I rode previously. I got the extended shifter and brake pedal, the fastway pegs (low setting) and threw on some taller twinwalls, now the bikes are absolutely amazing.
Oh, and by the way, they like race gas!
Also good to know you are coming off RM250s, because the conventional steel frames turn somewhat similar, but the KTMs feel more stable at speed. I used to ride RMs back in 02-04 and still believe them to be the best handling motocross bikes Ive ever ridden. Again, my ONLY complaints with my KTM SXs after a hard year on them is the overall space for taller riders. Theyve seemed to hold up very well too.
From what TSM said it sounds like they must have stiffened up the suspension quite a bit. My '12 was way soft in the front.
Do a search on here in the shop forum and maybe on this one and see what Digger29 said about his jetting. Do the same search on ktmtalk. Be careful though. Lots of guys don't know what they are talking about.
Pit Row
-I put the soft pv spring in
-fattened up the main jet from 160 to a 172
-dropped needle a clip
-Still haven't done too much to the suspension other than sag and few clickers but still dialing that in.
Coming off of a YZ, I can say that the suspension is NOT bad out of the box. Some people act like it's a huge pos and you need Ohlins or some A kit shit which isn't the case.
I want to get PC exhaust as I am told by several people that it helps the topend/over rev better than fmf system.
I know mxa loves the intellajet carb system on their 250sxs. They also have done some thorough testing and wouldn't be a bad place to start.
My cousin had the 13 250sx last year. Just had the fmf shorty/factory fatty, redid the jetting and suspension and ran race gas and the bike ripped.
PC was always good on my YZ's growing up, but i never liked the pingy sound on the 125's and 250's.
the FMF creates tons of bottom to mid without losing the top and the sound of my 300 will send shivers down even the biggest 4-broke diehard's neck
put that 300 kit back in your cart and hit submit, you wont regret it.

Nothing was wrong with the bike but I did a ground up refresh/rebuild on it last winter.
i think i'll do that to mine this winter
I also bought a soda blaster and cleaned up the engine (removed all the dirt stains).
