According to my AMA magazine I received today, 450 SX will bring back heats and semifinals to the racing.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I think it's actually a step in the wrong direction. I would prefer that the qualifying all happened during the day, and all of the night program consisted of (multiple) main events only (like MEC).

I've heard this being discussed a lot but wondered how it's going to work with the Live rounds?

I don't understand?

It doesn't change the daytime program. Just the night time program.

***only main events for the night program and I somewhat agree. Run two 20+2 mains in each class.

While we're at it bring back 22 man main event gates. Give those fuckers some incentive NOT to throw in the towel early because they get points regardless the way it is now.

I can't see the tracks holding up to two main events on the track. They scrape the wood during the one main even they have already. The tracks look terrible after the final main. The only way it would be possible is if they trucked in 2x the amount of dirt they already haul in. And we all know how they are about dirt. . . The less the better apparently.

this is where you turn it in to a 2 vs 4 stroke thread.

4 strokes are ruining the track too fast!

LOL.

I don't think qualifying races should be happening after 7:30. What I'm suggesting really isn't so different from the MX Nationals (qualifying in the morning, then once the actual program starts in the afternoon, all the racing counts).

Ha. Not where I was going with that. That's kind of a different discussion, different thread.

To the point of semi-finals and making all the night racing count, why don't they issue points for how you place in the qualifier rather than add another race? I think that would make more sense on the surface.

I think the reason the current system hasn't been altered in a few years is because it currently fits the needs of all of those involved.

I am all for the semi format to come back... mainly because i have sat through too many 3 hour night shows that really only had about an hour of racing, and 2 hours of Feld commercials...

This is a great development and I applaud Feld for listening to their fan base. Next update we hear I hope is consistency of main events from venue to venue time wise. Doesn't make sense that some fans get to see 20 minutes of 450 action but in other cities fans only see 15 or 16 minutes.....four or five minutes more racing might not be that big of deal to some but a lot can happen in those remaining minutes.

Does anyone remember when the SX mains were timed?

I generally hate when people add, "And we all know..." statements.

The extra 20 minutes of program time will cut into Fox Sports/Speed's late-night infomercials.

Awesome. Everyone wins.
More teams/riders will get exposure and the fans will get to see some close racing.
Semis & LCQ's are intense. They have that feeling of arenacross urgency to them.

Is it going to breakdown like it did in before? 4-4, 5-5, 2

More races=more action.

Who can argue with that? Oh, wrong place to ask that question....

I would rather have shorter races (heats and mains), with semi's added in. No I don't want to shorten the mains, but if I had to pick one I would pick a shorter main with a semi added in over the current 1 race qualification (heat) format.

I understand having live TV broadcasts means time constraints and making tough choices. More races is better than long runaways.

Yes I will get blasted about "needing" the longer main, and that it gives the fast rider who is a bad starter more time to make passes and catch up.

But the reality is 90% of the time it is a 20 second lead and the top 3-5 never change. Hope the semi "rumor" is true.

I don't know how I feel about this. I like more racing, but I'd rather see more points scoring races. Is a rider in a lower position going to run it in on a guy ahead of him for a better gate pick? Maybe, but maybe not. But an extra point or two - that's a pretty sure thing. Points pay the bills more than gate picks, so I feel like the guys in the qualifying spots are going to more-or-less play follow the leader. I'd much rather see longer mains or maybe two mains. But I'll definitely admit, any racing addition is a positive.

Enduro Cross has just about non stop racing. Pro class, vet class, women's class and a 2 lap baja designs (lights out) bike lights only
race. They pack this into a 3 hour 30 minute night. Great close racing. I will skip the drama of supercross and stick with Enduro Cross..

I hope they expand the series and have one near my neck of the woods. I'll also keep my fingers crossed for an amateur day. It would be all the fun of an offroad race without the two hours of abuse.
