Monster Energy Cup Track Design Unveiled
Carmichael-Inspired Track Set to Challenge World’s Top Racers as They Compete for $1 Million
AURORA, Ill. (September 26, 2013) – Feld Motor Sports® unveiled today the track design for the Monster Energy Cup that will take place at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 19. Designed by five-time Monster Energy Supercross Champion Ricky Carmichael, this year’s Monster Energy Cup track will be so massive that the stadium itself can’t contain it.
The feedback from riders and fans alike was that last year’s Monster Energy Cup track provided some of the sport’s best racing, so the goal this year was to amplify the existing model. It was a simple solution for Carmichael: Use most of last year’s track elements and reverse the layout.
"The Monster Energy Cup track layout has continued to be on the challenging side and host great racing," said defending Monster Energy Cup Champion Justin Barcia. "Carmichael always comes up with interesting concepts and ideas that blend motocross and supercross elements, so to hear the 2013 track layout has been reversed from last year's design brings a whole new level of uniqueness to this race."
“After last year’s race, we immediately rolled up our sleeves and began working on the next generation of this track,” said Carmichael. “I didn’t want to change the dynamics of it but wanted to fine tune what already made for one of the greatest tracks I have ever seen and coming away from last year’s race, I knew the joker lane was a must have.”
The Monster Energy Cup track will include the unique the split start, joker lane and a high-speed 33 degree bank built into the stands, but Carmichael has intensified a few more items. The 80’ triple will grow to 100’; instead of one high-speed sweeper turn, there will be two; the split start will now direct riders onto the track at a 45 degree angle.
“Adding the distance and extra sweeper is what the Monster Energy Cup is about,” said Carmichael. “This is the perfect blend of air and speed, and what is unique is that each Main Event is only 10 laps so everyone will be fast.”
“The new changes such as the extended triple and two sweeper turns are really going put our skills to the test,” added Barcia. "We can’t forget about the Joker Lane either. It was definitely a game changer last year, especially when it came to deciding when to go through it. This is going to be an exciting and interesting race."

They also made the triple 100'. I'm sure I'm missing something.
Oh, and Dungey will have to hand shift the whole race.
I'd love to watch them rip around Kingston Rd. 2 or Fort Dodge Rd. 1

"Guys, we're REALLY gonna switch it up this year. First we're gonna reverse the layout. Then, make this about 20' longer, add another one of these over here, and change these from 90 degrees to 45 degrees. Now, who wants to grab a beer?"
Fo-sho tho this is my 3rd year in a row going and I was expecting something more than a reverse layout. With Carmichael being involved in the design I have to consider that maybe some/most of his ideas were nerfed?
That track is actually set up for it, lots of turns on the inside of the stadium...
Big ass SX berms...
I thought the track was pretty good last year and I think the split start is kind of spookier this year with them angling in like that. Last year the danger was if someone overshot the corner and hit the guys coming the other way, but this time they'll be moving over on each other. Should be interesting though!
What I'd like to see them do is make an entire section of real, old school, rough as fuck motocross. No grooming, no flattening the braking bumps, just rough shit that can put you over the bars if you're not careful. The problem is that those kinds of bumps need to be formed by bikes going doing laps, not built artificially with a Bobcat. Fuck, I dunno, throw a shark tank under a triple!
