I've been a faithfull AMA member for the past 17 yrs. Although I strictly ride MX and street, I joined to run an Enduro with some friends. I renewed for the last 17 yrs cause for the most part I believed they were well intended. This year I have not renewed due to the $49 yearly dues. For me, they just reached my ceiling of what I think is reasonable for a yearly membership. This is NOT intended to bash the AMA. Just wondering what others think. What say you?

$49? They are awful proud of that membership.

I kicked my AMA membership to the curb over 20 years ago, it was the biggest waste of money ever.

But I am in SoCal were the AMA has very little presence in the motocross scene if any. Fact is in 36 years of MX racing I have never raced an AMA mx race.

AMA is a JOKE I paid for 25 years earned my life membership once I didn't have to pay any more they stop sending my monthly AMA magazine and wanted me to start paying for it ...

now all they send is crap wanting me to donate money their a BUNCH OF JOKERS...

I race motocross and there's only been one AMA Race a year in this area for 20year's and that is Hangtown.

My wife bought me the life membership back around 1993 or so as we were renewing it every year to go racing. It was $350.00 back then so it seemed like a good deal. Now they keep sending me bills and invoices like I owe them money. They screwed the sport royally as far as I'm concerned, stole from their members on numerous occasions and do little to support the aspect of the sport that I like. So I say fuck 'em. Bunch of incompetent arrogant assholes. And thieves....

Name one track AMA has helped stay open. And not National tracks they have a monetary interest in.

If you are going to race AMA events , it's not worth it but not such a bad deal. after that they don't offer much unless you want the right to ride a street bike without a helmet.

No shit. Not to mention they were the last ones to the table when all the lead law crap came floating down the river. They are pretty fucking useless.

I've been an AMA member for a while...and the only reason I renew my membership is because they have played a key role (though not as much as I'd like) in keeping public land-at least in Utah-open to dirt bikes.

On the moto scene...they are pretty much non-existent...but for off road on public land, they are doing work...not as much as they can/should be doing...but they are doing work.

They are way to focused on street motorcycles....

If that is true someone owes me some money, they keep charging my CC every year and I'm over 20 years. Guess I'll have to do some investigating...

Unfortunately, here in Colorado both sanctioning bodies require AMA membership to race moto. The AMA is a joke. I pay 49 bucks a year for a subscription to a shitty magazine. Worthless.

I'd say the old regime more so, Dingman's a good guy, he was hired to do a shitty job, clean out all the thieves and the non-do'ers.

Does anyone have a link to how many years to become a life member? Looked at their website and can't find anything. Did find a life membership cost $1500! WTF!. I just have the membership to do a couple of local races, if I can get out or the $49/year I'll be able to put that to a new back tire!

Why not?Smile

Remember when a few of the old guard got outed for blowing all of the members money on trips and frivolous expenses? One or more got to spend a little time in the pokey and others were sent packing. Then all the while that AHRMA was in the "can't be won pissing match of a lawsuit" with Team Obsolete, the AMA was right there with them. Call it guilt by association maybe. But they pissed away $750,000.00 of our money for nothing up until the point they decided they wouldn't be able to milk that much out of AHRMA since they were facing bankruptcy. Sorry bastards.

No complaints here. as stated above we need it to race in Colorado but I've found several discounts. $5 off each ticket for supercross and arenacross.(paid for my fees last year) 25% off avis car rental (i've used a couple times). 10% off at bikebandit. also if you auto-renew its free towing on any of your vehicles up to 35 miles.

I was on year 19 and you got your lifetimes at 20. That same year they raised it to 25. I had like 4 months to my renewal. I think I have one more year to go for the 25 year and lifetime. If they change it again, I'm going to be pissed.

$49 really isn't that much money...To put that into perspective ..easily piss that away at the bar in one night..besides I need it to race in WI.

My wife spent $49 on Halloween decorations for the house yesterday at the craft fair..they won't do shit for the mx community either..

Dropped mine 2 years ago after being a member for 15 years. Waste, joke and pathetic usually comes to mind when thinking of the AMA. Bought and paid for are a few other things.

Eons ago I signed my sons and myself up for life memberships......was it the best money spent.....perhaps. Rory uses it all the time and the AMA has a hard time with it but certainly does honor it. LOL Many times he has presented his life card at AMA events (Nat MX, Nat Enduros, Nat Hare Scramble.......) and he gets the 3rd degree "what is this" or "where did YOU get this"

My AMA # is 126507 and I get some perverse pleasure occasionaly logging on and seeing how many of us lifers are left.

Sondy I did not know that about dingman....afraid to say but i thought he was cut from the same cloth as the other crooksters
