does the ama series need a sand track?

Edited Date/Time 9/12/2013 8:37am
As title- i think it does! There are lots of good sand tracks in florida by all accounts so why not add one onto the national calendar? sand races are great to watch in my opinion i think it would be a great addition to the championship

The AMA needs at least 2 sand tracks. Our series had 3 this year (Can) Its good for series points (shakes things up) and gives different riders a chance to shine.

I'll take another over-grown supercross track on moon dirt any day of the week and twice on Sunday. The sport needs more moon dirt if we wanna get as big as NASCAR.

I think so as well but do any of the sand tracks in Florida have facilities (or the ability to add quickly) of national caliber?

If yes, what tracks are we speaking of?

Yes.

I'm thinking that Southwick won't be gone for too long...

Hell, you guys are going to have A Lot the cheer about on the 2014 schedule.

It could also use 100% less sarcasm, which is highly overrated. Smile

What the series can use is variety.

Yes, the national's need more sand track's and fair racing for 2-stroke's as well as more outdoor race's. Moto-x is the toughest sport in the world and that should be one of the way's it's promoted. Crazy Rooster125

Definitely! Though not deep sand, losing Southwick was surely a big disappointment for anyone who loves the sport and follows the series. I love watching the top riders dissect the sand - idk, there's just something very cool about it. You can either gain or lose a whole bunch of time in one corner depending on what line you take or bump you hit etc. The Nationals are awesome but if there is a weakness, it's that some of the tracks lack variety in terrain, notably sand. It's also a great equalizer or especially rewarding to those that have a feel and technique for it (as we see time and time again with the locals).

Baja acres in Michigan would be great. Deep sand and track gets super rough.

This "would have been" the place, but it sucks the track manager was skimming and got caught. And the new Chief wasn't a big mx fan I guess. Sucks bad this place is gone, along with another 3 or 4 really good tracks here.

The best track for a national in the southeast, hands down Monster Mountain, Alabama.

What the AMA needs is decent tracks to hold a National, sand or not sand.

Muddy Creek = decent.

Miller Motor & Elsinore = a ways from decent.

TV ratings are the key and the last two Nationals looked pretty bad on TV. Get the fans back to lining the track and back into the TV frame, the last two may have been well attended, but you would never know it watching the broadcast, they both looked like a local race attendance in SoCal.

Definitely,I always look forward to Southwick, add another one too, maybe one of these in Florida that some of you guys talk about,a real deep one,I have so much admiration for the good sand riders, the skill and technique is awesome, those 1st Motos at Lierop were the toughest, gnarliest races I've seen in years, damn,it even made Lommel look fairly tame in comparison as it was so heavy going with the previous rain, which the track could take

If the series goes back to Southwick it needs twice as much sand and should be ridden backwards.

Do it the right way.

Sounds like Montrose here in NC. When you would pull up before practice, it would be as smooth as glass. Later in the day, not so much. I hated that place. There are sand tracks farther east in NC that I've never been to,,,,,,,,, Whistling

Last year's MXdN should serve as a wake up call for American Motocross.

Of course we need more sand!

Did you guys enjoy watching the fastest riders in the world get beat by riders they would easily wax on any other track?

The pro practice track at North Florida MX was gnar when I went there a year ago. Real sand not the sugar dirt we have around Macon (middle Georgia). Weren't many jumps but sand tracks don't need big gaps. Not suggesting NFLMX but surely there are others in the vicinity with better parking & facilities.
