Why would it be blasphemy or a pat on the back?

Moto = Motorola
X = extreme, extra , ghost, or simply what they just called the phone when working on it or sounded really catchy.

I guarantee the confusion with "Moto X" and motocross never crossed their mind along with trying to cash out on the motocross riders of the world.

It probably is trademarked in classes related to extreme sports or anything on two wheels. But I highly doubt 'Moto X' is protected from being used as reference to mobile / technology products. Who would've saw that ever happening anyways?

I wouldn't think so.

Google owns Motorola now and if anything they will love the extra exposure for people searching for "Moto X" stuff.
Google is a pretty passive company when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Meh, not that impressive of a phone. For the $, the GS4 or HTC 0ne is better- imo.
And no, it has nothing to do with motocross.

I just worked on a commercial a few weeks ago for that phone. When I saw "Moto X" on the call sheet I was excited thinking there would be some cool MX stuff in the shoot, nope just a dumb phone
