With the success of the Yamahas up front this year - Josh Grant, Justin Brayton, Jeremy Martin, Cooper Webb, it seems that the Yamaha is steering itself slowly away from the James Stewart days. Maybe it's Josh Grant riding like he's capable of, but either way, the YZF is gaining ground as a more and more capable weapon.

the did not win a race this year on the AMA series,

although the Star team did much better in the 250 series than they ever have,

Be interesting to see if the new bikes are successful straight away, as that is not always the case, like with the new honda in 09, and to a lesser extent this year with the new 13

Gaining ground, not there yet. It could obviously use a slightly revised front fender.

Yamaha's 250F rookie talent might be the best in the field. Its looking good for the blue team.

Probably true, they have done well in 250 series this year, although I think perhaps not so much in 450's. Having said that if you popped Villipoto on a Yamaha 450 he would win, heck pop him on a TM he would win, heck on a Honda CT110 he would win, well ok maybe not lol

Was looking at buying the new 450. Dealer made the mistake of parking the 14 next to a new 12, and holy hell they sure are similar.

I think the market was too flooded with aftermarket alternatives to expensive OEM parts for yamaha to make any real money on replacement parts sales. Their solution seems to have been to make an all new bike that is very similar to the old one but has no parts in common with is. Saves a bunch of money on R&D.

Yamaha produces a really high quality motorcycle that is known for its durability, and I assume that this costs them more than it would to produce a motorcycle that lasts half as long. The thing rarely ever breaks so they lose out on the oppurtunity to sell the consumer OEM parts; the bike retails for around the same price as all the other jap OEMs; and to top it all off Dbags on forums write up dumb conspiracy theories about why their bikes are not as succsesful as they once were.

I've had to do very little to my 08 Yz450F. . . Your comment about making them reliable and durable is spot on in my experience. Of course, I'm not ringing the bike over every jump but I'd say 5 years on a bike with only changing the oil, air filter and clutch is not a bad deal at all. Hell, the original plastics just got their first crack a year ago.

I'm a big yamaha fan and I've been disappointed that they haven't landed a top rider on the new bike for some time. JS7's yamaha contract came right after he peaked. He's definitely a top rider but I'm talking about a rider that is about to hit his prime. It's nice to see them grooming some guys again. Webb sure looks impressive and I like his attitude in front of the camera.

Someone crunched the numbers at Lorettas this year and Yamaha's did very well at the ranch.

Two things:
1. Who is "Ground" as it is capitalized like it someones name?
2. WTF are you talking about?

Seems that way to me . Im not saying the bike is bad I've never personally rode 1 . But it didn't work with his style and seemed to shorten his prime . He hit the ground so hard so many times on that thing he will never be the same .
