One final post for me on this matter. I am not sure if the riders are there for the track, pretty sure it is for the competition.

Again all you guys saying or act like a 70 foot double or table is "uncalled for"? This is the funniest crap I have ever heard...

Where the hell do you ride? Pit bike tracks? I have never seen or heard of motocross tracks that do not have some big jumps. Lorettas is the superbowl and it has none.

I understand with all the mud if they took them out but under normal circumstances come on...

To the guy that said I have only ridden 10 tracks. I don't pack up the motorhome and travel around the country to race. If it's more than 2 or 3 hours I'm not going. Sorry. I wanna know since my 10 that I have rode must be the sickest tracks ever. Name 20 that you ride? Do none of those 20 have anything bigger than 50 feet?
Ever heard of Foxhills, Hawkstone park, Lommel and Valkenswaard? to name a few. But yeah, they aren't as "sick" as your tracks.

You seem to not know much about what REAL motocross is and where it came from.

Natural drop-offs and any air time gained by natural rolling terrain is fine, but if you have to use a dozer or machine to create a jump, its not real motocross IMHO. It started out as Motorcycle Cross Country racing. Off cambers, grass track, rolling terrain, natural moguls/whoops/rollers, drop offs and climbs.

You wanna jump, line up at a SX track.

I wish people would remember what motocross is and not confuse it with supercross. Most tracks today are hybrids. LL has plenty of jumps and such built in, plus they are designed to maintain their integrity over the course of the week. If you were to add a 70' tabletop or triple, someone would get hurt when the face broke down and developed a power lip at the top. I always think back to the big tabletop at Gatorback during the Mini-O's and the holes in the face of that thing.... catch a rear wheel on an 80 and the nose would drop like a lead weight!

Big jumps are fun. But at an event like LL, it's just not feasible to have them for safety reasons.

My son's favorite track is Kahoka. Kahoka I think there is 2? jumps on the entire track. Possibly only 1. It's been a few years since we've been there. Elevation changes and mogul size breaking bumps and 65cc eating ruts.

I think this quote from Ferry on LL's track makes up for the fact they don't have 60ft doubles and 90ft table tops on every straight.

This quote is from the Day One Slide Show

Ferry said the sand- and sawdust-covered track was “rougher than a lot of pro nationals I raced!”

OK so obviously since you seem to be suffering a little amnesia let me show you what "your" tracks look like.

Foxhills, looks like an awesome track by the way. I don't have my glasses on but did I see some cool jumps??? Nooo couldn't be.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4nr8L9hW9s

Perhaps you could take a trip back to Hawkstone since you have forgot and see them launching a jump. Notice to there is some respectable jump in the background. And some nasty ruts at this place too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abihin4EpiU

Now I will be so kind and let you Europeans relive some glory and we can look at Lommel. Now this is probably one of the hardest tracks to ride hands down with some of the biggest ruts and deepest sand. Honestly you can't compare this to Lorettas in any way. If there is one track that doesn't need big jumps for safety reasons its this one. But did I see them hitting a man made triple? Or something big. But this track is in a class of it's own.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLD8VG2Omoo

And on to Valkenswaard. Do I see a sweet track there. Man I really must need my vision checked but again I see what appears to be some really big nasty "man made" jumps here. Really take a peak at 7:45 on this one. Naw thats naturalWink

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMq2Z21FGKs

So I am not sure what you think I do or don't know but you don't seem to know whats at your "local" tracks.

So I start a thread saying they should at least put a moderate table or double in at Lorettas. Everybody thinks I'm stupid because "that's crazy". You imply I know nothing because I have only ridden about 10 different tracks and you have superior knowledge because you have ridden more. Then you supply me with a whopping 4 tracks that have big man made jumps. Am I the stupid one here?

By the way all these jumps appear to be............ manmadeWoohoo

My guess is that they take into the consideration the mindset of a 12 -17 year old that isn't going to shut off on the broken down face of a table top. Perhaps the older guys have that same mindset and that is 100% fine, they are adults and are responsible for their own actions. Point is the kids are going to hit that damn thing every lap whether or not it is safe, this puts the youth at risk and that is that last thing they want to do at such an event.

Lake Whitney has some big and fun safe jumps... Loretta's looked really flat in comparison(not talking about Whtiney's big uphill and downhill)

You do realize that these tracks are different and are worked on a fair bit when they run, a GP, an mxdn and a pre season international on them?

You know, when the best riders on the continent and in Lommels case, the best riders in the world turn up to race on them.

And Foxhills, they aren't particularly dangerous because its like riding on concrete, the jump faces don't deform into rut infested death traps.

You do realize that they have "man made" jumps... Right.

And back to my original point. All these kids had to qualify to even get to Lorettas. I would be willing to say that all of the tracks they qualified at had some big jumps. They managed to make it there.

Again I liken it to finally making it to the majors and they move the fence in. Or what if the NFL made the superbowl "two hand touch"Woohoo After all you don't want the prize players injured right?

Everyone at that race knows how to hit a jump. If they don't they shouldn't be there.

Lets look at it another way. So your 17 and a bad azz. you race your local qualifiers which may or may not get rutted out depending on the track but will almost certainly have some sizable jumps. No big deal you hit them in practices and the local races all the time. You hit the qualifer, launch those big scary nasty dangerous jumps and are good enough to qualify for LL's. You show up at Lorettas which is the next step to the pro ranks and there isn't hardly a jump in sight. Is it a difficult track hell yea. So you race LL's. The stepping stone yet it lacks one critical feature you call dangerous.

Well what are those guys gonna do this weekend that are racing the pro national? Go around the jumps? Because some of those are for real, and there are ruts, and Eli Tomac just blew your doors off.........

Also yes I realize those track are worked on a lot but those massive jumps at Valkenswaard are still there aren't they? I don't think they are moving those things.

i don't follow your logic here. However, my son went and spectated this year. While telling me all about the trip one of the things he said was seeing the track in person was kind of disappointing. I asked what he meant and he said "Nothing at all like any national track he's ever been too, almost reminded me of Branson." lol It sure looks a hell of a lot better than Branson to me! I think this is probably a good example of why there are not any big hucks at Loretta's. Long motos, a rough track, big hucks and 1500 kids hopped up on adrenalin can lead to spectacular crashes.

I didn't see this crash, but I did see the careflight helicopter fly overhead while I was riding at another track.

The track, and level of competition at LL's is second to none.

Having ridden the track a number of times over the years, I've never once thought there was a lack of or problem with the number of jumps. I like to jump as much as the next guy, but the challenges presented to the riders that have qualified are pretty stiff.

There are also a wide range of rider abilities from top to bottom in all classes.

The program is run almost to the minute. Track maintenance, weather and other factors can throw a wrench into that program. The fewer ambulance runs and injury time outs are a plus.

If you attend in person, ride in person or take part on the grounds, your views might be different.

My point is that Lorettas is the pinnacle of amatuer racing and the next step is the pros. Everybody here thinks it shouldn't have any jumps. Yet the next step is massive jumps.

To the guy who's buddy wrecked the quad that looks extremely painful. That is why you don't jump quads or ride them on motocross tracks. That is dangerous.

Look Tortelli eats crap on a straightaway, lets take those out too.

With the space they have to work with they do a great job with the track. While it doesn't have any huge leaps it has plenty of jumps, bumps, humps and ruts. Throw in a day of crazy rain and you have the recipe for DIFFICULT! There isn't much if any chance to catch your breathe and you better be ready to concentrate your butt off. The only problem I had with it when it was all said and done was that I was not fit enough and focused enough and it kicked my butt! All that being said the event itself is spectacular and I felt very fortunate just to get to be a participant! I think i want to try again and see if I can finish better next year!

and having massive jumps at lorrettas would do what for the riders? other than tickling your fancy! I am sure that it wouldn't have changed the racing one bit. Seeing how you have never been I wouldn't discount the size of the jumps there by watching go pro's or what was on t.v. Watch a go pro of Larocco's Leap. Looks rather simple especially to a keyboardjockey but to see it hucked in person I highly doubt you would double it.

just curious...of the 10 tracks you have ridden which ones have the massive jumps that you speak of for comparison?

sizeable and massive are relative terms to the skill of the person that is riding them....

You would have to do it to understand it.

I always trained so hard for that week because i knew what was coming.

Would ride my mt bike with all my moto gear on

Carry cinderblocks around my sx track in my yard in the heat of the day.

Valve my shock for the last third of the moto because it would fade with all the heat.

If you went with a valving set up for 4 lap 6 minute motos like home you would swear the shock feel off out on the track

And i knew if i just stayed up on the start i could pass the noodle legged the last few laps like a knife thru budder.

Now i hear they plow after each moto which is why when these guys go pro a long rutt freakes them out.

They used to plow only at lunchtime,i want the moto right before that or last of the day.

Watching some of the week long coverage from Loretta's would have proven that plow between every moto bullshit wrong. After a couple motos dozers would go out and smooth the faces around Story Land but that's about it except for the 1 scheduled track maintenance period during the day.

Although Loretta's may not seem good, the track workers did a great job prepping it. It really held together and changed. We got to see the best amateurs in the toughest of conditions. Period. It isn't about natural elevation and as much fitness required of a track but you don't need that for amateurs. They are still growing and can't handle pro tracks.

That being said, this tradition for amateurs in American motocross will only grow

A tractor hits the track somewhere between each moto, not the entire track but they pull in a turn or 6 each breakm

I know, raced there many times, always got into the top 9,on 500,s back in the 80,s when the start went left of that tree,

Went under a cartwheeling bike on a start of 500a on day,red flag, bodies all over.

Had a guy, alan andruae from fla i believe sit beside me in staging for monday practice tell me how he was gonna g
Bust out the triple in the back on the 1st lap, he broke both ankles.

The triple never was a factor,it was always so jacked it was just as fast to double single out ontl a whoop m

I raced there with water 3 foot deep, lighting hit a tree that was the side of the single that brought you back into the big ri that sweeper and it set the haybales afire, half the class stopped while the rest of us raced.

That was one of the biggest cluster fucks i ever saw there.

Good times
