Id have to think so. I think a lot of people tuned in just for the "holy shit someone is gonna die" appeal of it. Combine that with the boring FMX show and you start losing viewers. Hopefully things will change next year with the venue change to Austin Texas maybe they can have a better FMX course, and possibly, the return of best trick

Wasn't the reason they cancelled it because everyone was nailing themselves and it was getting seriously dangerous?

With multiple rounds nowadays its probably unsustainable..

I think they nixed it due to the snow guy that passed away at winter x.

Yeah, I agree with you guys above, the event was becoming live-or-die on some of those tricks and I can see how they dont want that kind of liability. We all know those extreme sports are dangerous and many times cause injuries, but nobody wants to see life or death at stake for a trivial commemorative medal.

It became live-or-die because they were inviting joe-schmoe's from the woodwork... rather than professional freestyle guys that had put in the time and effort.

MotoX Best Trick started to drastically decline in quality when it became a lawn dart show rather than 80% of the guys landing stuff and the judges had to judge. Is it really a show when the guy that wins is the only guy that lands something?

I'm glad they clipped it. It had gotten too big, too scary, and there were some guys in there (one-hit YouTube wonders) that probably shouldn't have been in it. I watched more than a couple guys get to X, see the lights, cameras, and pressure, and completely lock up.

as much as i hate to say this, most people probably tuned in to see someone eat shit.

glad it's gone.

when the same guy wins two years in a row, and his second year trick was worse than his first year trick, you know the system has failed.

That best trick event was definitely a crash fest.
Also glad it is gone.

I think that event peaked when TP did the double back-flip for the first time.

I think they should have it as a video entry, that way if you land something crazy during the year and get it filmed you don't have to try and land a miricle trick first time in a stadium. Most best tricks you probably will never be consistent at so why put it all on the line, especially when they have it early and people have other events. Xgames for me has never been the same since TP199 stopped competing.

They clipped it because of the tragedy with Clinton Moore at Winter X according to Chuck Corothers. It is very tragic, but the thing is that Moore passed away due to injury in the regular freestyle event. I hope that doesn't prompt them to get rid of freestyle altogether, but if they do and that just becomes X fighters, then maybe the moto format at X will get bigger as in a MEC type event or Mcgrath invitational. The judging system at X is a joke. A race is a race. There will be a clear winner.

I actually missed X last night because I was working, but I can only assume text voters got it wrong again.

Worse yet, Tweeter twatter voters got it wrong, although they did somehow get Hanny a medal he deserved

It's all been said. Another factor is Red Bull does their own televised stunt shows now anyways for New Years and other special events. So I think it not an event to be judged anymore, it's a show type deal like the circus and proper stunt preparation is done. I remember my non-moto friends calling the event "The Best Crash"

That all said, yes, happy it's gone as well.

It was Caleb Moore. You could at least have the respect to get the man's name right.

Im glad its gone. I wouldnt mind seeing freestyle go away. The back flip ruined that sport now its nothing but doing tricks inverted. It gets pretty old. Dont get me wrong the guys have amazing skill at what they do but its just boring to watch. I think the advancement of the sport isnt in the tricks anymore its in the courses. Add some 1/4 pipes, rails, shit like that lets see these guys do basically BMX park on a motocross bike. You cant tell me if they figured out the mechanics on the bike that seeing a double tail whip over a huge 1/4 pipe ramp gap wouldnt be awesome.

Caleb was a close friend of mine we grew up racing together.

Yeah no doubt, for me anyway. I can't remember any other best trick event after that but I sure do remember that one.
