doesn't really matter how dangerous it is......if their is advantage to hitting jump faces faster, staying lower and getting back to the ground sooner the best guys that are able to do it well are going to do it!

Ben Townley tweeted a few weeks ago that if kids practiced their cornering rather than pissing about lookig good over jumps, they would a hell of a lot faster... and i agree

In 1997 Talon Vholand was already scrub'ing things at the world championship. I remember a video from the Spanish GP where he came from the back trough the pack and there you see clearly that he scrubs.

as for the guys asking me if im being serious about this thread. Yes i am.

Reason being is that, guys are getting tossed off the top of a jump at the top of their arc...that is some scary shit.
anyway I'm curious as to who is going to bring back the mcgrath way of staying low over the jumps? I mean there has to be other ways to make up time over jumps without that Unnecessary risk. I know there is risk in everything mx/sx related but it seems a bit excessive.

think it can get dangerous when they scrub diff ways , anyone have the vid of barica and metty in millvile 09 when they both touched wheels over the jump chad fell off on , and even this yr , it was really close between alot of riders , especially js7 and trey a few time s only cm in it

IMHO the scrub is clearly dangerous when used by an inexperienced rider - same applies to any and all advanced moto skills.

The tracks are being built so that you almost have to scrub if your going fast at all. POS ! supercross style tracks everywhere, even outdoors now BS !! crap racing too. But oh you look sooo cool.

The amount of times I saw that guy crash on jumps makes me wish he practiced jumping a bit more...

DV......not for nothin but I can't count how many times Bubba passed someone by scrubbing passt them on a triple.....have u never seen an advantage to scrubbing? Sure.....ams do the leg kick but the fastest of the fast pros all scrub.....perhaps u would have kept up longer if u scrubbed?

just as dangerous as hitting any jump...you can still loop out or nose dive off a jump without scrubbing

No one is saying James shouldn't scrub but for the majority of racers from a risk reward standpoint the scrub is difficult to justify.

I think what DV meant to say was that it is the most over-hyped thing in mx. It has it's uses but it's probably only REALLY useful for like the top 40 fastest dudes in the world and that every z-class dbag down at every rinky dinky race track in the continental united states is trying to scrub every jump, whoop, and bump on the track.

But what do I know? I've never even been to an amateur national.

so should they be penalized for scrubbing? might as well take away points for over jumping and going to fast through sections. If you're scared to do it, dont do it. simple as that.

its a new era/style of riding..just cause someone isnt a top level rider doesnt mean they shouldn't emulate what the pros are doing....plenty of people in other sports model their style of play around people they looked up too..why shouldnt mx riders?

Uh, dirt bikes, and pretty much the whole sport, are dangerous. A racer will use any technique to gain an advantage or keep pace, as it should be. You want safety, go play golf.

You weren't born, I was scrubbing bro. Just saying it's dangerous... Ask Canard, Windham, Preston (when Bubba scrubbed into him) and another thousand of examples. Yes, you gain time, but if you can corner or lose 5sec a lap the last 5 laps because you outta shape, scrubbing won't help you...

Who cares who invented the scrub??? DeCoster is "TheMan" and never scrubbed! So scrubbing is a criteria to become a legend? Scrub is dangerous, that's a fact. It's faster, it's a fact too but it has to be used at "your own risk. There is obviously a limit in scrubbing which is catching the peg or the foot.
