can you bore stock diameter triple clamps to accomadate a 49mm A kit fork? I have a set of ride triple clamps and came across some A kit forks. Can I make that work or will it weaken the triple clamps to the point of concern?

Since they aren't stock I would give Ride a call and see what they say, heck they might do it for you for a nominal fee.

You only need to bore the top clamp to accommodate the SFF A-Kit forks, and a machine shop can do it easily. My son is using the Ride 21mm clamps and we bored only the top clamp. Just take the shop the forks and they will measure the top of the fork tubes and bore them.

I checked into this option a few months ago and called RE to get an answer. I needed a pair of 22 mm offset clamps
to fit an '09 CRF250R and the new Pro Circuit SFF Air forks. I had two options, I could buy a new set from RE that
were already bored to fit or I could have a stock set bored to fit. The cost for RE to bore the stock clamps was $200
and they said the upper and lower clamp needed to be bored.

I ended up finding probably the last set of Pro Circuit 22mm offset clamps to fit my application, and went with them
instead. I sent them to Pro Circuit and they bored them to fit while they were assembling my new suspension
components. Here's a picture. You can see where the clamps were bored by the missing anodization on the inside.

The 2009 450 fork tubes must be different than the 2010-2013 CRF450 or 2010-2013 CRF250. Have been running 21mm Ride clamps on 2010-2013 CRF250 and 2012-13 CRF450 and they are interchangeable with all those years except we changed the bottom bearing to put them on the 2013 450. When we got A-Kits for the 2013 CRF250 and 2013 CRF450, Chris Durham at PR2 bored the top clamps. We didn't even send him the bottom clamps.

Good point. What I take away from this is:
1. Some stock bore triple clamps can be bored to fit larger fork tubes
2. If you are considering this, check with the manufacturer to see if
their brand of clamp can be bored.
3. What does and does not need boring depends on the make and
year of the bike.
