Funny article :
When it Comes to Motocross, How Much is Too Much?
We all love riding, but it’s possible to go overboard. Be aware of the warning signs.
It’s that time of year -- moto is upon us. The season is in full effect, the winterization of your forearms has begun to wear off, and once again you cannot even look at a golf course without thinking, “Could I double those bunkers? I think I could double those bunkers.”
It’s an amazing time to be an active citizen of the MX community, quietly observing your miserable coworkers as they continue to sift through Groupons to figure out what mundane activity will suck the money out of their wallets that weekend. As thrilling as apple picking sounds, we’ll be at the track, living with a pulse above that of a coma patient.
But watch out…
As with any addiction, caution must be exercised. As we have always said, moto is awesome. It is so awesome that it can ruin your life; it is all-consuming. First of all, don’t quit your job. You are not going to go pro, and the family needs to eat.
Sure, selling blood for race entries may sound like a feasible option, but it is not a road that you want to venture down (it’s not fun trying to race a 30-minute moto with blood pressure similar to that of a punctured water balloon). Just ride on the weekends and squeeze in a sick day here and there. Flu season may be over, but stick to your story and eventually the HR department will stop asking questions.

And keep your relationships intact.
We here at Red Bull care about family. Who else is going to scoop you up if you pile-drive yourself into a berm, right? One of the unfortunate pitfalls of motocross is that she can be a cruel mistress, to paraphrase every sea captain ever.
Ignoring responsibilities becomes very easy at this point in the season, a time when picking the kids up from soccer practice or joining your lady on a rousing excursion to Pottery Barn often conflicts with what is important, like sitting in the garage and staring at your motorcycle until the time comes to ride it again.
But you have to summon whatever willpower you have. That tempting siren of a dirt bike will lead you down a path that very quickly turns into lonely nights in your dimly-lit “bachelor pad” eating cold Chef Boyardee with a spatula because all the silverware is overflowing the sink like the lamest treasure chest of all time.

So how much is too much?
Being addicted to racing a dirt bike is fine, but you must be able to function in society. If you walk down the road and make “braaap” noises, you are riding too much. If you are pushing old ladies wide in corners on dual-lane highway off-ramps, you are riding too much. And if the sensation in your forearms has yet to return, as if each of them just took an overdose of Viagra, you, my friend, are riding too much.
So get it together. In moderation, there is peace. Except when you’re on the track, then throw moderation out the window and pin it.
