Bengay and pain killers will do the trick.
Only if he just strained a few muscles.

Get checked out as most posts have said; other wise a small problem may end up a major one! Plus no more doubt as to whats hurt.

Sounds like we have a bunch of messed up motocross riders on this board. There are a few things that can ease, relieve or fix the pain of a herniated disc. Sometimes you have to think outside the box. Remember every doctor is different in their approach to the problem - that goes for all: DC, DO or MD so do not lump all doctors of one profession together.

There is a procedure that has shown great results in dealing disc herniations, bulges, chronic low back pain, compression fractures, lingering headaches and reduce range of motions.

I have degenerative and bulging discs at L4/L5.

Really sucks

I tried it all, chiro, electro stim, Physical therapy, massage and more...

Chiro did xray and saw nothing so he just wanted to adjust me, did that for a few months, no relief...actually made it hurt the next day each time

The MRI found it

Best thing was when I got my ESI (epidural steroidal injections).

God bless the person who dreamed that procedure up.

I still hurt some, but nothing like I used to

There is a procedure that is called Manipulation Under Anesthesia or MUA. It is very powerful and has been shown to be effective 95% of the time. It is great for chronic conditions such as low back pain. You can search the web for some info or to to my site www.georgiamua.com.

Ive got Spondylosthesis in the L5,-S1 area. 3 surgeries in total ( 2 fusions) and then the last one was to take out the hardware. Injections did nothing for me except agrivate the area even worse. I deal with pain every waking moment but I'm in pain management and also stay as active as I can to keep my mind off of the pain. Going through PT and meeting other people with similar situations Ive found that I am far luckier than alot of those who I met who are in far worse condition than I am. Unable to walk, stand, sit for any length of time or drive. You may call bullshit on the mental aspect of over coming pain especially chronic pain but it's important to have a strong mindset and never give up. Ive got a friend down the road who's on a morphine drip and does the TENS unit 6 times a day. He's in misery from his back pain. It's a vicous cycle where he has to take his heavy narcotics just to be comfortable. Not to mention what the plethora of other meds he has to take to counter and detox his system. I am lucky I dont have it worse and I'm thankful for that. Best of luck and dont let it kick your ass.

Anyways definitely put ice on it all day. It could be serious but you can't tell without an MRI. If you have any loss of bowel or urinary control get to the ER ASAP!
Yea, I've also got a compression fracture in my neck (cervical), so that must be where the "7" came from.

When I broke my collarbone last year, I told the ER I had fallen off a table while I was practicing for my stripper fitness class.

The nurse gave me the weirdest look ever but wrote it down anyway. Grinning

the triple step down is right after the big step up in the current track direction. it runs back across the "ridge" they put in a while ago. There was a guy there on a crf450 (#444) that i talked to the other week. He said he had done it 2 times, and the second time he clipped the landing and he hasn't tried it since.

if someone REALLY had a set of brass balls, they could get a 450 up and over the double step up. The face is pretty big now, and you'd get plenty of lift. you'd have to hit it clean though, if you bounced off the top of the second step, it would be a 20ft drop to flat bottom. ouch.
Thats one of those jumps where it doesn't really make sense to do it except for show. It's like the triple up front, on a 250f you have to go all the way to the outside edge of the track where no one else goes and then barely make it. A 450 is a little better you can get it from the middle usually.

I see the first internet moto forum malpractice lawsuit in the making.

so with that in mind, take a few Norco's if that doesn't help or you don't like "real" narcotics, try a flexeril w/ a couple ibuprofens. DR

Your latest post speaks volumes for what is going on in our sport today. Instead of talking about railing a berm or having an off camber dialed people have come focused on jumping this table top, double or that triple. I can appreciate a lot of people like jumps but the risk/reward factor seems more than a little out of whack to me.

Only a few track owners "get it" that injured riders don't pay gate fees. BTW, given the situation you find yourself in now, was trying that jump really worth it?

Hope you can get on a traction table or an inversion table ASAP as you won't believe the difference it will make in your pain level. Good luck!

at least visit a chiropractor and get xrays.(cheaper than hospital xrays)
maybe chiropractor can manipulate your back.
*if nothing shows up on xrays, suggest getting mri !
again ask chiropractor where you can get a cheap mri done(going thru doctor/hospital 9 times out of 10 will cost more for mri order)
xray will only indicate bone problems.mri shows everything else.
warning***if a chropractor tells you he can tell just from xrays....run!

I would say Blue Diamond is one of the safer tracks I ride at. I for one wish it had bigger jumps...

Hope you have seen a doctor on this. (if not)...
Keep your shoulders in line with your hips. do not twist your upper torso!
Do not exercise or try any kind of traction until you have Seen a Doctor.
Insist on an MRI. Unfortunately there have been plenty of cases of spine injury's that turn into paralysis from post injury movement.
Xrays are touch and go for detecting vertebrae damage.

those inversion tables look interesting, maybe a possible dual usage!
If it's a simple anterior compression fracture, the treatment may be only rest, limited activity and NSAID's..... but there is also the option of a vertebroplasty in certain cases.

The injury described likely warrants a plain film, and depending on other symptoms and physical findings, may need MR imaging.

But what do I know, right??

well.. I did the pillow and ice thing for 2 days, as stated by another member. Tonight I start heat. Played 2 sets of tennis at about 75% yesterday, didn't have much problem at the time, but a little sore again this morning. My gym here at work had one of those gravity tables. pretty cool! felt better in about 30 minutes, and hit the sauna for 30. so far, so good. I'll be off the bike for about 2-3 weeks, so I won't get any trauma in that time frame.

i'd say blue diamond is pretty safe too.. The only thing dangerous about it, is getting up in 4th gear in those straights, and cross rutting (not paying attention)

Only do heat if it is moist - do not do dry heat!

Also try stretching your hamstrings to relieve some pressure off the back.

its ok dude, no need for name calling.. i have an MRI scheduled for this afternoon (i called monday), I am sure it will come back negative. Hopefully, this was just like cracking your knuckles. I wasn't trying to start a flame war here. I've never had anything like this happen before, and I was certain (since most guys on here are over 30) that they have.

I knew from experience the gravity table would help. I am surprised top teams don't carry them on the rigs.

Have you had a chance to visit www.vaxd.com to see if there is a table in your area?

BTW, be careful with the heat...my guess is ice will bring you more relief particularly if you have done any damage to a disc. I'm not a doctor but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last evening.

came up short on the big tabletop at blue diamond yesterday, blew through the travel on the forks and the shock, felt a little click in my back. Now my back hurts like hell this morning, and I can barely stand up for 2 minutes without loosing my balance. When I curl up in the fetal position, ALL the pain goes away, sitting isn't too bad as long as I recline back, and keep pressure off the spine. Anyone have any ideas what to do? I don't think this is bad enough for a hospital visit, this is about a 5 out of 10 on the pain threshold.

you have a pinched nerve-
i had them a few times.

its hard to get ride of and requires lots of therapeutical massage in that area to release the constricted muscles to allow the out of joint joint to go back in place.

that said; i have had two of them pop back into place by stupid things like hobbling to get the phone and bumping into a chair while twisting to avoid it.

so its hard to try just one thing. just be very very careful of chiropractors in this situation because their theory is kind of dangerous with a pinched nerve and can cause more pain and suffering. trust me. i went thru it!

"Harden the F*ck up!" Wink jk,After having 17 major surgeries in my life,I've seen a lot of Docs. Regular x-rays didn't show my back issues. The MRI did. You'll feel better if you know for sure.Back pain sucks! I'm 45 and in constant pain that I deal with mostly through exercise, weight training, diet, massage and a once a year or every 2 years epidural shot.Good luck. Having said that,I have to get up at 6am tomorrow and go get hit by a car on CSI Miami.............never said I was smart.Blush

MRI was fine, no herniated disc. He thinks there was compression of the facet joints in the lumbar region around L3 and 4. In other words, take some advil and rest up. Still a little stiff, but I have full range of motion now. I still can't believe how painful that was, cause I am pretty tough. When I broke my right collarbone, I drove home the next day from NY state (walden mx) to bel air md in a manual shift ford ranger. Stayed home on monday, then went back to work in a clavicle brace. Back pain like this was different, you get (literally) paralyzed by the pain, you can't even move if you want to. Scared me enough, I couldn't imagine a lifetime with those spasms.

Facet Syndrome

Inflammation of the facet joints causing sharp stabbing pain. Basically pain that when you move feels like a knife being stuck in the area.

This condition gave me the most problems in my practice. Some people would feel better immediately and some would get no relief.
