SO, i just gave it a photoshop up to see the potential of this thing, and i have to say its definitely better than how i first pictured. This is a 250 (ignore the white backgrounds, and just played around with a few bits...Wonder if it'll change peoples minds when the bikes start actually getting modified and ridden?

Anyway....

You are Right it is a real Patch Panels design - The gratuitious see through subframe looks even more unfinished than before - Somehow your photoshop has highlighted this - as if they removed the bike from the plastics design before they guys where finished - Wait we are still busy ... Still the direction they are going is exciting maybe next year they can dot the i's and cross the t's. Down Draft Intake like their road bikes etc.

If ever theres a bike NOT to take inspiration from when designing the latest motocross bike, it's that thing right there!

I agree with that subframe comment too...The other side seems better, but this side seems so wrong to me...

I think it looks ok but that motor is going to get hot hot hot no way around it. Let's hope it handles better as the rest of the previous bike was good suspension and motor wise. Well besides being 8' tall.

I don't understand how people can say it will run hot when nobody has even ridden the bike yet.

Also it looks like this design has more open space for air flow than most. If the current YZ450 doesn't get hot now with the exhaust running out the back and twisting around itself, then the 2014 that has the exhaust way more exposed to air should be just fine.

I saw the release photos on Tuesday like everyone else, and like everyone else, I thought they were hideous. But the weirdest thing has happened in those two days: aside from the awkward subframe area, I really like the looks of the new YZFs. They're different, and they look sleeker than virtually any current 450 out there. The Kawasakis, I know everyone seems to love them, but they look bulky as holy sin. The RMZs look sleek, but the Hondas, KTMs, and the old Yamahas looked like Harleys almost. These look nimble and MX worthy. We'll see how they perform, but I have high hopes for blue now.

These bikes look badass, it's a great blank canvas to work with. For those who are saying they are ugly are you forgetting the riders legs will be covering the "ball warmer" vents on the side? Graphics and numbers will cover up any minor fit/finish issues....I'll be looking at a 250f for sure.

For sure, I think they look very aggressive. The only bike that looks more aggressive is possibly the RMZs.

Some of you guys just like to bitch about the most trivial things. Run hot? B.S.! It will be fine. I could really give a rats ass how it looks. If it performs well, I'm sold. I don't sit and stare at my bikes, I ride them!

They won't run hot, they actually run cooler due to the "ram air" flow when the bike is whipped sideways....good for a tenth.

good points, I am really curious to hear how they handle, it looks like the center of gravity is going to be even lower with the tank placement and the exhaust also..

Compare the YZ Fuel tank to the CRF - On the yZ you sit on the Fuel tank ? Better worse weight distribution ??? Looks more modern ...

IMS and Clarke can probably go oversize towards the rear were all that open space is ?

I wondered about moving fuel tanks to the back since the faster you accelerate the further forward the centre of gravity moves ? Dakar riders will probably understand that relationship .

Now I don't think the front end looks half as bad now, but the rear with how open and skinny or whatever you wanna call it is, it just doesn't match up I feel like. If the number plates where maybe a little bigger and took up some of the open space on the subframe, it would look a bit more proportional/correct. IMO.


EDIT: but not as big as wow123's photoshopped version..

Say what you want, I have shown the these bikes to numerous non-biased non-mx people and asked them what they thought and every single one of them said it looked either butt-ugly or disjointed. I know the sales of these bikes will depend on the performance, not looks, but you can't argue that they hit a homerun for 'ugliest bikes of all time' lists for decades to come.

Wow123, your number plate looks cool, for 1984.....

You guys are tripping, you won't even see the damn opening when the there's a rider on the bike. The bike is sick. I bet the design will make it really easy to work on the rear shock or carb too. If the openings really bother you that much paint the subframe black or blue and put some mesh in there which would make it like something like this:

I get your "attempt" it does look better - Probably more traditional - Bike is not so "disjointed" and the plastics look less like an "after thought" Cleans up the Line a lot ! If your concept was proffessional done and applied - I feel it would work better visually than what is currently presented - Still like most say I am not going to date it - I want to ride it !

I like the downdraft intake system as that is the next performance gain one can apply to a valve intake - Make the intake tract as straight as possible - which is why they went reverse cylinder probably - 4 valves v 5 - probably get more torque - The re question is have they got the chassis balance right ? Like the YZ250 neutral handling - YZ-F's battled long time with turn in etc? So that is probably the most NB - How does it feel when riding ?

Still loads of design comments cannot be ignored as they all get a similar impression. The mixing of black and white and blue panels with exposed tank and see through subframe helps the "Patch Quilt" look. Versus Clean lines which this bike actually has hidden.

Thats okay, was a 5 min job,

could do much better if needed in ph sh skills and the design

All i was doing was showing that that space could be filled, the black part removed and with the right design look better IMO

Here's a profile look at the 250F's. They all have their own "style" and uniqueness! (The RM is the 2013.)

Zach said the YZ's look "futuristic with their plastic".

The KX looks like a boat anchor! Al though my boy Trace likes his 2013.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there will never be the prefect bike for everyone....
