INSULT TO INJURIES, Home from the Ranch and looking for answers! When is a RED FLAG appropriate? Race 3 moto 2 on the first lap our son came together with another rider in a downhill rhythm section. Both riders where down hard on lap one. When I got to my son the leaders where coming around on lap 2, the yellow flags where out and the riders where almost landing on our son. An AMA official was on scene and I begged him to stop so we could get our son some help. He told me to get out of his face and he gave me a shove! Lap after lap we had to shield our son from all riders. No red flag came out and the race finally came to an finish.I couldn't believe my eyes and ears, they started race 4 with our son still lying in the track (what the hell). Forcing us to move our son off the track knowing his injuries. EMT's arrive, my son is complaining of shoulder and upper back pain, he is pale with blue lips!!!!! EMT's ask if he could walk to the car and he will transport him to our CAMP. (ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!) The so called EMT's radio to the ambulance he needed help, this situation was out of his comfort zone. After race 4 comes to a finish the ambulance arrives. The inexperienced EMT's have to be shown how to remove a helmet from the injured rider. The ambulance doors open and it was an empty box, no gurney, no oxygen, no monitors, not even a box of band-aids. They slide him in on the floorboard of the ambulance,( makeshift ambulance) and 4 X him through the track. (UNBELIEVABLE). So then he was transported to a REAL AMBULANCE.

Now I read the rest. Mark iv know you for years and I can only say one word, child! Enough said.
Sometimes parents need to get together, and stand up....I've seen a few parents not let their kids ride if they were not
comfortable with the safety provided...in the end it's up to the parent, don't expect ayone to care about your kids...cause they don't...
This brings up another incident that happened at GH about a month ago and there track worker named Ian. They dug out the middle of a table top on the REM track for the mud run. 6' deep! No cones or flags or anything. The REM track is always open on Thursdays. from where I was standing I saw 4 enterences to the track w not one sign anywhere that said closed.
Not to my suprise I see a guy on a 150f roll around and went over the table and slammed into the face of the hole.
At this point we all ran over to see if the dude was ok. Hes was sore but ok. I saw Ian in a dozer a ways away...I waved at him like WTF man...motioning at the hole. He comes over all huffed up, starts with a terrible attitude followed by a "track is closed...the guy should have known better"! I said man you need to put a cone up or something and he told me that the track was closed and he wasnt going to do anything. Another guy said hey man, your lucky the guy wasnt hurt and Ian replied "no hes lucky". At this point I just walked away and said out loud "what a fucking idiot"...Ian replies w a "fuck you" as he drove the dozer away without putting up cones or anything.
Im not ever for sueing a track but come on guys...Stew...Lori...fire these fucking tool bag track workers before they cause you a law suit!
This kind of behavior needs to stop. The actions taken by this AMA official are unacceptable. This organization has been in this business long enough to know better...and year after year we continue to hear horror stories like this. The AMA...MX Sports and the local Club Promoters all need to step up there effort in the name of safety.
I realize it takes a big effort to hold an event like this but this is getting ridiculous.
Per the AMA rule book, the Referee has the right to, or at the request of a participant, check the medical credentials and/or licenses of the ambulance personnel.
1) How about the AMA starts REQUIRING the referee of the event to check the medical credentials before practice starts or any activities. I believe this should become part of his duties as the Referee at the events...not an option. If I'm a parent...I start REQUESTING/DEMANDING for this to be done before activities begin if this is what it takes to do everything in my power to protect my kid as much as possible. We all know darn well...it's dangerous enough racing.
2) If the referee can disqualify a rider for cutting the track then he can damn well DISQUALIFY THE AMBULANCE FOR CUTTING ON SAFETY EQUIPMENT.
It states in the AMA rule book: The Referee is To provide for technical inspection of equipment used by the riders, and to bar any equipment that doesn't conform to standards.
How hard would it be for him to walk over and inspect the ambulance to be sure it carries the minimum equipment required?
Per the AMA rule book it is the Organizers responsibility for the following:
Organizers of speed-oriented meets, including associated practice, must have present at all times an ambulance capable of legally transporting injured persons, with an operating oxygen supply and attending physician or qualified first-aid personnel licensed by the county or state with jurisdiction. There must be at the starting line at all times an operating fire extinguisher with a 5BC minimum
In my opinion, there is no excuse for the lack of following the above guidelines
As for the race continuing, let alone the next race going off with your son still on the track.......The INCOMPETENCE is just mind blowing.
To top it off...the referee shoves you! Enough said. Someone should be fired from his duties and the race promoter should be fined and put on probation for not complying with the rules and regulations in the name of safety.
Lets think about this for a second. If the AMA can fine riders for rules violations and then turn around, donate the monies collected to the Asterisks crew in he name of safety.......then I say whats good enough for the riders....is good enough for the promoters.
My opinions are based on the presumption of accuracy of the foretold story. I was not at the race. I know there is always two sides to the story. In my opinion these stories are to common to come to the conclusion that it's probably "just a Dad whining."
The answer to your question is: NOT ONLY CAN WE DO BETTER....WE MUST DO BETTER IF OUR AWESOME SPORT AND RIDERS IS TO SURVIVE
[b]NO MORE EXCUSES.....JUST DO THE RIGHT THING OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL!
Pit Row
I'll be the first one to say "I want these clubs to succeed in there endeavors and be profitable for the best interest of our sport"
As a business owner myself...I know they stick there necks out there (Liability wise ) to put these events on for our enjoyment and hopefully a little profit for them selves. Nothing wrong with that.
I also know that they are running a business and need to make a profit to continue. I get all that.
The fact remains though.....We need ACCOUNTABILITY, RESPONSIBILITY AND AWARENESS for our sport to survive. We should demand nothing less.
If they are willing to take our money, we should expect at the very least...for them to follow there own damn rules, guidelines and standards. No more excuses.
Not to disparage the many groups or organizations that have sprouted up after a tragedy...I'm sure they are sincere in there efforts to try and change the safety aspects of our tracks and the way that they operate to promote a better environment for our riders....and I only commend them for there efforts...but I can't help but notice a failure on many levels of tracks that will put the signs up stating that they are a follower of safety standards of "pick a foundation and fill in the blanks" and that they support this or that but the reality is....it hasn't changed other than the signs posted.
Finally....and I'm sure some will blast me for it. To be fair to the tracks....I would be willing to bet that the tracks are not making a killing for the most part...specially in California where you can't blink without permission and a tax to go with it. They may be making it on some races and not so much on others and in some cases losing money on some practice days.
I would be willing to put my money where my mouth is and pay a few extra bucks to get back in return a piece of mind that if I fell...and God forbid...need medical attention on the spot....I could count on that happening in a professional, competent way.
Honestly....I think to hold a practice or race and do it right...by this I mean man the job with enough competent flaggers and personnel to uphold the safety standards that I myself would desire is probably to cost prohibited with what they have to work with.
They should though, treat there customers with respect, regard and have the utmost concern for safety.
Prays for your son.
So unless that policy is different for the regionals then it was a track employee that did the shoving.
I do know that Kip was at the ranch and was not too impressed with how they ran the event.
