the risk involved.. for world class athletes to put on a caliber effort to race the best in the world and walk away with 1100 to 1200 its ashame...dam golf caddy makes ten times more.. it s joke look @ weston running top ten in points can't make enough must leave the country to race..its been the same for ever....they have plenty of sponsors look around they just give it top the riders...its a pitty the way the sport is RUN...its the same as our govt..-ucked UP!
Its a great sport I love...but sure run the wrong way.

AMA collects the entry fees and sends out the checks.

I think you are confusing the promotor with the sanctioning body.
Rights to promote the series went to DMG and they contracted MX Sports to promote.

That's how I understand the deal anyway and it does get a little confusing, I'm sure FTE will be in to correct me if I missed anything here.....lol.
thanks for the correction, I've never seen an ama person at the nationals so didn't think involved.

Yeah the track does pay Asterisk... you're right about that. Except when you hold a USGP, no one comes and you don't pay the Asterisk guys. That's the story from them about Glen Helen...but I'm sure Bud didn't tell you that part.

Matthes since you were there when it was talked about that Glen Helen did not need Asterisk because we had the Symons Rescue with 2 Trama Doctors and several Paramedics and Bud said we don't need you and they asked if they could trade it out and Bud and Asterisk agreed and then they keep asking for payment and Bud kept saying I will pay you when you invoice me and they never did until a few months ago and it was paid. You were there for all of that right. Since your and insider and just like DC are never wrong. Get over it. This was about the purse and who pays it and how much. The tracks pay the purse money to MX Sports and what they do with it and how much they give the riders is their choice. They have increases in the contract for the purse. If it's $4000 or 10,000 a year it does not matter. The riders deserve more money. But the top riders don't need the purse the non-factory riders do. The ones who pay out of their pocket. This sport has peaked because you can't attract the big name sponsers becasue its not Nascar, its not Formula 1 and its not Golf or any other sport that the masses want to watch or try. Prove to me we have new people involved becasue they saw Supercross or an Outdoor National from watch it on TV. The young kids now had parents who were involved. The largets group out there riding are over 30 and the number over 50 is bigger than ever before and its not from TV it because they love what the sport use to be not what its become. Sometimes you need to step back and look at where your at and then slow down. Matthes in a few years you will have reached an end of a Great Career in this Business and so will I who has only done nothing and you know who they are going to miss more? Neither one of us becasue they don't care. Again let it go and watch the dam fall apart. Its coming and you know what. It has no effect on my life at all becasue I have a job and life away from the Circus you play in. Lifes to short and there are to many clowns already. The tracks are paying out more money for everything and only a few make it back. Thats business I guess, some will survive and others will fail. Watch who's left after this year, watch AMA is gone after this year because like GNCC MX Sports feels they dont need them. Watch them not bid with DMG for the Nationals next year, oh wait the Pro Motocross Championships. Its no secert out there, its not a rumor I started I heard it at the start of the year. I know what I am told by people who can't say a word because they don't want people to know what they hear. I just work at a track and speak up when people don't tell the truth because they want to keep this God like image. I don't care who likes me or who hates me. Every thing I say is my opinion and I can voice it. But from what I hear there is a crack in the Dam. Lol this is like shooting fish in a barrell. By the way I loved Muddy Creek and it being slowed down. They did a great job.

Asterisk has yet to be paid.

Choppy they were paid. I saw the check and the invoice from Asterick so Choppy you speak of thinks you know not of. And as for business I wish I was as good a business man as him. He has earned what he has in a business where people will sue if not happy. It was a $3000.00 bill. Good money for anyone who was asked not to come becasue they had a staff of Trama and other medical experts and Paramedics that all work for Loma Linda thats stands at the top of one of the best Hospitals in the World and were paid. How about you putting up your money for a GP or Pro Motocross race. I know I would not because people will find fault with everything you do. I am talking about Hangtown, Washougal, Freestone, Pala and Elsinore and even Broom-Tioga just to name ones that I know of. These guys pay for everything you see at the track out of money they make and hope they make it back. Its a lot of blood, sweat and tears and they lose sometimes more than they make so they have a right to question when someone wants in their pocket. They do it for love but love does not pay the bills. So do you believe MX Sports would be doing it if they made no money. Dude I might be just some guy who works at a track on some weekends but businesses don't run on love unless your screwing someone for money. Thats what they do at the Mustang Ranch. So Choppy keep up the good work and voicing your opinion. I welcome the words of the normal people. All I get to talk to at the mental hospital are those as crazy as me. Night Edith

Again, they're still owed money. I'll leave you to be "right" in your own mind.

The entire them not being asked to show up is a bit of a "misguided" statement as well.

Being good at business does not make you a saint or any less of a scumbag.

Man this thread took a big shit.

How about some real info, like the purse break down ? And who gives a shit where the money comes from

Everybody who races professionally knows they aren't going to walk away millionaires unless their name is Stewart, Villopoto, Dungey, or Reed. It's not like they're performing rocket surgery. They knew the risks involved when they pursued their dream. They're lucky they get to do what they love but they shouldn't be surprised when they find out it is not going to actually pay the bills.

The purse is non public information , Therefore the purse can change whenever it's needed to be changed. Privateers have that never give up attitude, but eventually when you wake up and figure out there's no hope or future you'll be around 23-25 years old and want have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. All the years you sacrificed , risked your life , and the money you've spent all you'll have to show is a empty bank account and a beaten body. This sports is cruel , but the love of something is hard to give up. The purse money is the last thing a salary paid rider is worried about its chump change compared to their bonuses and weekly or monthly checks. Privateers should be paid on spot at the track because 9 out of 10 will need the $ to get to the next race or just to have for reimbursing the money spent to get to the race. When outside sponsors are brought in the money goes towards tv coverage or some way to better the top guys pocket , so they'll keep coming back. Motorcycle superstore holeshot award ? There's $40,000 that can go to the purse , but will go to a factory guys pocket . Raced professionally for 6 yrs and when I called it quits I had nothing and people outside the sport would ask well didn't you make a decent living being a professional ? I'd answer and the look on the face ? Priceless.

GoonSquad, the riders are paid after every two rounds. There was a hiccup after Thunder Valley and the first checks of the year did not go out as soon as they were supposed to. They have all gone out since and anyone on direct-deposit already has their prize money, and anyone getting a check, it's either there already or in the proverbial mail. They will be paid again right after High Point.

TBright, paying riders "on the spot" would be great, but it's also problematic to have a line of 80 riders waiting to get paid in the hours after a race. Direct deposit seems to working well, except for the couple of days with these recent snafu. And we have tried to discuss ways to spread the money down further and skip factory riders, but that's not as easy to do in reality as it is in theory. We are working on speeding the direct deposit process up.

The race tracks do post the prize money, and MX Sports processes it for them. MX Sports also helps find event title sponsors like Ford, Red Bull, GEICO, etc. (Thunder Valley did a great job of getting Rockwell Watches pretty much on their own, as did Washougal with CAT.) The title sponsor helps the tracks make it all work.

And Matthes is right: Asterisk did not get paid for the USGP and it's an unfortunate situation. It also costs much more than $3000 to bring out that whole rig and it's crew for a weekend.

I don't think you would ever have 80 riders standing in line to pick up a check, but you would have the guys that need that money to keep their program in motion, so they can be at the next race.
Direct deposit sounds great if it drops into the account on the Monday after the race!

I think Bud learned just how much MxSports helps with getting fans/attraction/sponsors to the track as apposed to Youthstream/GP's regardless if he wants to admit it or not.

So when you say that the prize purse has gone up by $4,000 this year, in essence, you are saying that you have forced the tracks to pony up $4,000 more this year?

Underdog, it's part of being involved in a series, and it's $70K more than the other outdoor series pays out each week. There was no "force," just an increase in the prize money.

And any rider who needs cash to get to the next race knows that they can go to the AMA rig and ask for a cash payout instead; it happens from time to time (and I just paid Desalle and Strijbos cash this week for Thunder Valley, as it's kind of complicated to wire money over to Europe and go through all that, and needless to say, they were pretty stoked).

I am going to call Doc Bodnar later to check on him and see what that outstanding invoice is so Mr. Info can take it to Bud and get it sorted. The rig is too important to the athletes and teams to be have outstanding payments that are now years old.

I chased my dream of being a professional baseball player. I was aware enough to realize that I didn't have what it takes...so instead of hanging around in A or AA ball barely putting food on my table, I decided to hang it up and choose a profession that allowed me to LIVE my dream of having a few dollars in my bank account, and a family under the roof. Perhaps you should stop feeling sorry for yourself because you were never good enough....

You made it sound like MX Sports increased the prize purse by $4,000 each race, which isn't the fact. The TRACKS increased the price purse.

But, I am betting that if the tracks didn't come up with the extra coin, then they couldn't participate in the series, therefore, "forced".

When is MX Sports going to throw in some $$$ to the purse?

In years past with MX Sports it was pretty normal to see direct deposits in the account the Tuesday after the race weekend, which means the money is available to use immediately at that time.

Underdog, MX Sports (and our partner Alli) have plenty of other expenses we're responsible for, from the TV production to all of the series-related rigs on the road, from the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit to the 365-days-a-year work on all aspects of the series. That means all of the paychecks flights, hotels, insurance, equipment, phone bills, wireless, so on and so forth, for the staff that runs each pro event, and finally the AMA fee, which have been sizable the last five years. We would all like to see the privateers get more, which I think is where this all started, but the TV package and the actual survival of the series are also important to the plight of all of the athletes -- factory or privateer -- and teams, not to mention fans all over the world.

We also pay the full purse at the events we are directly involved with, like High Point this weekend (and unlike what Mr. Info said earlier, MX Sports gets nothing from the general admission ticket sales at other events).

Speaking of that, lunch in the announcer's tower here is over and it's time to get back out on the track.

Why don't some of you fingersnap knuckledragging simpletons get to work and go find some big buck sponsors that are willing to put up some big money for these guys to earn. MX is so much better and so far ahead of where it was in presentation and professionalism it isn't even funny and I think we have one man in particular to thank for a lot of that, DC. Sure I would love to be able to tell my non moto friends that we have million dollar purses at every race and guys deep into the field are making big salaries. The reality is we are a niche sport and the majority do it out of passion. To sit behind your keyboard and snype over details that you may or may not have any of the facts on is clueless and classless. This thread is just like the thread about the points system, a few people want to have a legitimate conversation but most want to act like a bunch of monkeys in a tree and do nothing but throw shit at people. The Vitard shtick is getting old. Dry

If riders did what you are suggesting then we would have 10 riders on the gate at a national. For most of these guys and teams they are not only paycheck to paycheck, they are going into hock and out of business trying to make it. Its really quite sad how long this gripe has been going around but nothing ever changes.

Yes DC you have made some great strides forward in many area's, and credit where credit is due. But the purse is not one of those areas and I hope that in the future this will be resolved.

The return on investment for these riders is getting worse by the year especially with the 4 strokes because everything it takes to participate is going up exept the profit for participating in a race.

This thread is just like the thread about the points system, a few people want to have a legitimate conversation but most want to act like a bunch of monkeys in a tree and do nothing but throw shit at people. The Vitard shtick is getting old. Dry
I am not clueless. I do know what I speak of. I have had a family member who raced pro motocross. He had to come up with sponsors all the time.

I have not said anything rude to DC, I have not said he is horrible, I have not said he has done a poor job.

I just don't understand why surfing, which is also a niche sport, can offer such gigantic purses compared to moto. I guess it must be because of the track and equipment? Everything else is pretty much equal: travel (to foreign countries which costs more), insurance, hotels, phone bills, wireless, so on and so forth, staff that runs the events, and the ASP fees, tv, live streaming video.

One huge difference is that the surfers formed a union, and what happened after they did that? Wham, their purses went up!!!

Just asking questions,(which he hasn't answered all) and looking for ways to help the riders who are in the 10-40 place bracket make more money. Thank you for answering questions, DC. But, DC, please also remember, the survival of the series also depends on the racers. Which, by the end of the series you tend to have so few of.

Riders are chasing their dreams, trying to become that racer they believe they can be! Perhaps you should try it out sometime.

Clueless...have a nice day!
If by "clueless" you mean, I don't understand why somebody would bitch and moan about not getting paid enough, when they know the posted payout BEFORE the race/series starts...then Yes, I agree... xoxo
